Abstract

This study examines the influence of the Fama-French five-factor model on the excess return of stocks listed in the Indonesia Stock Exchange Sharia Growth Index and offers recommendations for optimizing Sharia-compliant portfolios. The model includes five independent variables: overall market return, firm size (measured by the return difference between small and large firms), book-to-market value, profitability (difference between firms with strong and weak earnings), and investment strategy (difference between conservative and aggressive asset growth). The analysis uses quarterly data from 2022 to 2023 and selects 14 companies from the index based on data completeness and consistent listing. Multiple linear regression with the Ordinary Least Squares method reveals that only the market return and firm size factors have a significant effect on excess return, with firm size having the strongest impact. Meanwhile, the book-to-market value, profitability, and investment strategy factors do not show significant individual influence. However, when assessed collectively, all five factors explain 93.06 percent of the variation in excess return, indicating the model’s overall strength. The study is limited by its short time frame due to the recent launch of the index and its relatively small sample size. These findings suggest that Sharia-compliant investors should prioritize firm size and market trends in portfolio construction. Future research should incorporate longer time periods, broader index comparisons, and qualitative factors such as investor sentiment or environmental, social, and governance indicators to enhance understanding of return behavior in Islamic equity markets.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors influencing audit delay in the consumer cyclicals sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the period 2019–2022. Audit delay, which refers to the time lag between the end of the fiscal year and the issuance date of audited financial statements, is a critical aspect affecting the timeliness and relevance of financial reporting. The independent variables examined in this study include financial distress, the size of the public accounting firm (PAF), and auditor switching—factors that have been widely discussed in previous literature as potential determinants of audit timeliness. To address the research objectives, this study adopts a quantitative research approach, utilizing both descriptive and causal analysis techniques to explain the relationship between the selected independent variables and audit delay. The research sample was selected using purposive sampling, resulting in 24 companies that met the established criteria, producing a total of 96 firm-year observations over the four-year period. The empirical findings reveal that financial distress does not have a statistically significant effect on audit delay, indicating that the financial condition of the firm may not influence the timeliness of audit completion in this sector. Similarly, the size of the public accounting firm also shows no significant impact on audit delay, suggesting that larger or more reputable firms do not necessarily complete audits more efficiently. In contrast, auditor switching is found to have a positive and statistically significant effect on audit delay, implying that changes in the auditor are likely to extend the audit completion time, potentially due to the additional effort required by incoming auditors to understand the client's business and accounting systems. These findings contribute to the understanding of audit timeliness in the consumer cyclicals sector and may provide insights for regulators, investors, and company management regarding the factors that influence audit delay.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of various behavioral biases on corporate tax compliance in Indonesia and examine the moderating roles of cultural variation and digital technology. A quantitative approach was used, with data collected through a questionnaire distributed to 384 corporate taxpayers across Indonesia using proportional random sampling. The analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares (PLS) and moderation regression techniques. The results show that optimism bias and fairness perception significantly influence corporate tax compliance, while status quo bias, heuristic bias, and framing effect do not. Cultural variation and digital technology moderate the effects of certain behavioral biases, highlighting the role of social and digital contexts in shaping tax-related decisions. These findings suggest that taxpayer behavior is not solely rational but also influenced by psychological and contextual factors. The study offers theoretical insights by integrating behavioral economics with contextual moderators in tax compliance behavior. Practically, it suggests that tax authorities should leverage behavioral insights and digital technologies to enhance compliance strategies. This research uniquely contributes by examining the intersection of behavioral biases, cultural variation, and digital technology in the context of corporate tax compliance in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to extensively research the effects of cognitive biases on individual investment decisions. The population of this research is investors in Indonesia and the sampling technique used is random sampling, obtained 574 respondents from 34 provinces in Indonesia. Quantitative data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression and moderated-moderation model in the PROCESS Procedure for SPSS Version 4.1 by Hayes. Results indicate that herding bias has a negative influence, discouraging investors from following market trends, while loss aversion, framing, anchoring, and mental accounting positively impact investment decisions; these biases are moderated by demographic factors. The findings imply that demographic factors do not interact jointly but operate independently to impact investment behavior. This research is novel in its exploration of moderated-moderation effects to reveal nuanced interactions between cognitive biases and demographics in shaping investment decisions.
