Abstract

In manufacturing companies, the use of production equipment and facilities has the potential and risk of hazards that can occur at any time. There were 466 cases of building and residential fires in the 2019-2024 period. To prevent and reduce the impact of fire, fire extinguishing systems such as sprinklers, fire alarms, and light fire extinguishers (APAR) are needed. Fire disasters require countermeasures through training to improve the knowledge and skills of human resources. This study aims to determine the differences in knowledge and skills in using fire extinguishers before and after training for printing workers at PT X Karanganyar. This study used an experimental design with a pre-experimental approach, using a one group pre-test post-test design. The intervention used is APAR training. The population of this study amounted to 50 respondents of PT X Karanganyar printing workers. This study used a total sampling technique with measurement of knowledge using a questionnaire and measurement of skills using a checklist. The data analysis technique used was the paired T test. The results showed that there was a significant difference in knowledge (p=0.000; p<0.05) and skills (p=0.001; p<0.05).

Abstract

Physical fatigue among textile workers is caused by non-ergonomic working postures (e.g., prolonged standing) and personal characteristics such as age, length of service, and body mass index (BMI). The objective of the present investigation was to study the effect of working posture on physical fatigue after adjusting for the covariates of age, length of service, and BMI. An analytical cross-sectional study with a quantitative design was applied to 174 Surakarta workers selected by stratified random sampling. Work posture was categorized under standing and sitting, while physical fatigue was measured by the Subjective Self Rating Test (SSRT) questionnaire. ANCOVA via SPSS version 27 software was applied for the analysis, in which age, length of service, and BMI were employed as covariates. The findings indicated that the standing posture was strongly influenced positively on physical fatigue (Partial Eta Squared = 0.547, p < 0.001), and the effect size is large. Significant risk factors were also found to be age (p = 0.012) and BMI (p = 0.035), but the length of service was not significant (p = 0.084). The ANCOVA model also showed excellent predictability values of adjusted R 2 = 0.715, which implied that the model was able to explain 71.5 percent of the physical fatigue. These findings emphasize the importance of posture-based ergonomic interventions to prevent fatigue and improve occupational health in the textile industry

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Weaving workers are exposed to noise exceeding the Threshold Limit Value (TLV), putting them at risk of noise-induced hearing loss. Egg trays and cotton fabric have noise absorption capabilities. These materials have potential as eco-friendly noise dampening materials in earmuffs. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of using cotton fabric-lined egg trays in earmuffs on noise-induced hearing loss among workers. Methods: The effectiveness of earmuffs was tested through a quasi-experimental design with pretest and posttest approaches in intervention and control groups with 82 respondents. Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) was measured through audiometric examination of both ears. Data were analyzed using Somers'd, Marginal Homogeneity, and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests. Results: The modified earmuffs were able to reduce noise by up to 34 dB with an effective NRR of 20.25 dB. The experimental group experienced a significant decrease in NIHL (p=0.000), while the control group experienced an increase in NIHL. Age and length of employment had significant effects (p<0.05). There was a significant posttest difference between the experimental and control groups (p=0.008).Conclusion: Modified earmuffs containing cotton fabric-lined egg trays proved effective in reducing noise. The use of earmuffs by workers reduced the risk of Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL).

Abstract

Abstract

The textile industry is one of the leading sectors in Indonesia, playing a crucial role in providing employment and driving economic growth. However, this industry also carries significant potential for occupational safety and health hazards, particularly due to unsafe actions. Observations at PT X revealed that workers' level of knowledge and behavior regarding unsafe actions remained low. This study was conducted with the aim of analyzing the effectiveness of an educational video intervention on unsafe actions on workers' knowledge and behavior. This quantitative research employed a quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group model. The study was carried out at PT X Karanganyar from January to April 2025. The research sample consisted of 72 weaving section workers, divided into two groups: 36 workers as the experimental group and 36 as the control group. The experimental group received the educational video intervention, while the control group received no intervention. Data analysis was performed using the paired t-test and independent t-test, along with Effect Size calculation (Cohen’s d). The results indicated that the experimental group, which received the unsafe action educational video intervention, showed a significant increase in both knowledge (∆ = 2.30; p < 0.001; d =1.628) and behavior (∆ = 5.02; p < 0.001; d = 1.034). Inter-group tests revealed a significant difference in post-test knowledge (p < 0.001) with a 'very large' effect size (d = 1.705) and behavior (p < 0.001) with a 'large' effect size (d = 0.913). It can be concluded that the educational video on unsafe actions proved effective in improving the knowledge and safe behavior of weaving workers at PT X Karanganyar. Abstract

Background: Noise intensity that exceeds Threshold Limit Value (TLV) can give impacts on non-auditory on the workers in a factory, in the form of an increase in blood pressure and pulse rate. Currently, health problems due to noise have caused the company’s total loss to reach 300 billion dollars due to absenteeism rate, decreased productivity, and treatment for occupational diseases. Research in Indonesia, especially the textile industry in the city of Surakarta, shows that noise from weaving machines with an intensity above 100 dBA affects blood pressure and pulse rate. This research was conducted at textile industry in Surakarta, one of the largest textile companies in Surakarta where the company has not been able to overcome the problem of noise intensity that exceeds the TLV which has the potential to cause blood pressure and pulse disturbances, and even decreased hearing function. This study aims to determine the relationship between noise intensity with blood pressure and pulse rate in textile industry workers. Method: This research is a correlation study, which is connecting the measurement variables of noise intensity with blood pressure and pulse rate. The sample in this study were 30 female workers in the weaving division who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The instruments used in measuring noise were sound level meters and sphygmomanometers. Data analysis used the Pearson correlation test to determine the relationship between noise intensity with blood pressure and pulse rate disturbances.Result: The study showed significant correlation between noise intensity and pulse rate with a p value of 0.029, but noise intensity with blood pressure disturbances does not correlate, with a p value of 0.443.Conclusion: There is a relationship between noise intensity and pulse rate of the workers in a factory.
