Abstract

Abstract

Babies born with short birth lengths tend to face challenges in achieving optimal growth, leading to stunting issues during childhood and suboptimal adult height. Monitoring trends and prevalence of babies born with short birth lengths and stunting is essential to understand community nutrition problems and evaluate the success of nutrition interventions over time. Objective: This study aims to identify trends and prevalence of babies born with short birth length and stunting incidence. Methods: This descriptive study utilizes secondary data from the Blora District Health Office for 2019-2023. The data includes information on the prevalence of short birth length and stunting from 26 community health centers in the Blora District. Results: The prevalence of short birth length from 2019 to 2023 significantly decreased from 10.48% in 2019 to 2.15% in 2023. Over the past five years, there has been a reduction of 8.33%, or 1.66% per year. Meanwhile, the prevalence of stunting was 10.48% in 2019, increased to 14.96% in 2020, and then decreased to 2.15% by 2023. Conclusion: The prevalence of babies born with short birth length has decreased by 8.33% over the past five years. The peak prevalence of stunting in 2020 indicates that the nutrition interventions implemented by the Blora District Government have successfully reduced nutrition problems among newborns.

Abstract

Background:Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) show that pregnant women experience anxiety by 8-10% during pregnancy, and it increases to 13% when they are about to give birth. The incidence of anxiety in pregnant women in Indonesia reaches 373,000, 28.7% of which anxiety occurs in pregnant women when facing childbirth. Sustained anxiety will increase the likelihood of cesarean section, prolonged second stage, asphyxia and affect fetal neurodevelopment and fetal cognitive. One of the physical exercises that can reduce anxiety is prenatal yoga. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the intensity of prenatal yoga participation on the level of anxiety of pregnant women in the third trimester in facing childbirth in Kartasura District. Methods: Cross-sectional study design. The population in this study were all third trimester pregnant women who did prenatal yoga and did prenatal checkups at midwife Wulan, Anik Midwife Health House and Auliya Husada Clinic with a total population of 42 people. The sample of this study used accidental sampling and total sampling. The research instrument used the Perinatal Anxiety Screening Scale (PASS), and used univariate and bivariate data analysis with the Spearman test. Results: A total of 22 pregnant women who did not participate in prenatal yoga experienced severe anxiety by 54.6% (12 people), while of the 20 pregnant women who participated in prenatal yoga, most experienced mild anxiety by 50% (10 people). Based on statistical tests using the Spearman test, p-value <0.05 was obtained. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the intensity of prenatal yoga participation on the level of anxiety of pregnant women in the third trimester in facing childbirth in Kartasura District.Suggestion: It is hoped that pregnant women who have not followed prenatal yoga regularly participate in prenatal yoga in order to reduce discomfort and anxiety.

Abstract

Stunting in toddlers can cause lost generations. One of the factors that influence the occurrence of stunting is family factors. Stunting can be influenced by the number of family members in a household, which affects the amount of income and the amount of nutritional intake that must meet individual needs. In addition, mothers have had a crucial part in raising children mothers have an important role in caring for children, providing nutritious food, and nurturing children, so maternal knowledge and the time mothers spend caring for children can affect the nutritional status of toddlers. To identify the determinants of stunting, a cross-sectional design method was used with a sample size of 230 children aged 24-59 months in Sungai Penuh City, Jambi Province. Stunting was the dependent variable, whereas family size, the mother's occupation, and level of schooling were the independent variables. The main data source was the results of SSGI 2022. It is anticipated that the use of national survey data, the chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis with a 95% confidence level will help discover familial characteristics linked to stunting. The study's findings demonstrated that mother education was a contributing and predictive factor of stunting to the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24-59 months (p-value <0.05). However, the number of family members and working mother status showed negative predictor values. It is anticipated that this research will contribute and offer answers to resolving the gaps that occur in society in reducing stunting rates in Indonesia, especially in policy making.

Abstract

The high prevalence of stunting in Sungai Penuh City makes it necessary to identify the causes of stunting in a local context by looking at the classification of residence. Stunting that is not resolved will have an impact on the Lost Generation in the future. This cross-sectional study with data from the Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey in 2022 aims to analyze the prevalence and risk factors for stunting in toddlers in rural and urban areas, so that the problem of chronic malnutrition can be resolved according to the conditions where toddlers live. Data collection was conducted in August-September 2022, while data requests were made in January 2024. The sample was 395 toddlers living in Sungai Penuh City. To see the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variable, the Chi-square test was performed and to see the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variable simultaneously, the Logistic Regression test was performed using the IBM SPSS statistics version 25 application software. The results of this study show that the prevalence of stunting in urban areas is higher than in rural areas, but there are no differences in risk factors for stunting, and overall rural-urban in Sungai Penuh City on the variable of birth length with OR (95% CI) 2.30 and maternal education with OR (95% CI) 2.22 shows the risk of having stunted children (p-value <0.005). This study concludes that there are differences in prevalence between rural and urban areas, but there are no differences in the risk factors that cause stunting in toddlers.

Abstract

Background: Massage has been widely studied because of its potential to promote growth in children. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of massage therapy on weight gain in children under 2 years old at the Jenawi Health Center. Methods: A non-randomized controlled trial with a pretest and posttest, involving 70 children under 2 years of age. Participants were divided into an intervention group, which received infant massage therapy for one month, and a control group which did not receive massage. Interventions are given daily by the mother. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney. Results: there was a significant increase in body weight compared to the control group. The mean weight change in the intervention and control group was 485.7 and 350 grams. The Wilcoxon test obtained a z-score of -7,280 (p = 0.001), indicating a statistically significant weight gain from baseline to post-intervention. Additionally, the Mann-Whitney U test revealed a statistically significant difference in weight change between the control and intervention groups (z = -3.269, p = 0.001). Therefore, it can be concluded that massage is effective in increasing the Infant's weight so massage can be used as a routine treatment method to support the weight growth of children under two years old.

Abstract

Breastfeeding is critical for the health of both mothers and infants, with global recommendations supporting exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months. This study aimed to examine the knowledge, attitudes, perceptions, and challenges faced by pregnant women in Surakarta.: Five women between 28 and 36 weeks of gestation were recruited using snowball sampling, and data were collected through in-depth interviews. Thematic analysis, conducted using NVivo 12. Revealed that while participants generally demonstrated a high level of preparedness for breastfeeding, challenges such as public discomfort, inconsistent readiness, and emotional uncertainties persisted. The support of their husbands was felt to be crucial by the participants in this study. However, as the study involved only five pregnant women, the findings should be interpreted with caution, and may not be generalizable to a wider population. Nonetheless, this study suggests that emphasis should be placed on addressing the individual needs of mothers and providing appropriate support interventions to help overcome emotional and logistical barriers, which could enhance effective breastfeeding practices in similar contexts.
