Abstract

Background. Tahsin science is a branch of knowledge in Islamic studies which aims to maintain the purity and beauty of the reading of the Koran. In this context, tahsin comes from the Arabic word which means "repair" or "beautify". The importance of tahsin lies in its efforts to ensure that every Muslim reads the Koran according to the correct tajwid and makhraj. Tajwid is the science that regulates how to pronounce the letters in the Koran correctly, while makhraj refers to the place where the letters appear. Purpose. This journal examines the importance of tahsin knowledge in maintaining the purity of Al-Qur'an reading. Method. This research methodology includes literature studies, interviews with tahsin experts, and direct observation of the tahsin teaching process in several Islamic educational institutions. Results. The research results show that effective tahsin training can improve the quality of Al-Qur'an reading, reduce errors in pronunciation, and increase understanding of the meaning of Al-Qur'an verses. In addition, this research found that there are several challenges in teaching tahsin, including a lack of competent teachers, limited time in the formal education curriculum, and a lack of motivation among students. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve training for tahsin teachers, introduce tahsin programs in the school curriculum, and develop interesting and interactive teaching methods. Conclusion. The conclusion of this research emphasizes that tahsin science has a very important role in maintaining the purity of Al-Qur'an reading and must be a priority in Islamic education. Continuous efforts are needed to ensure that every Muslim is able to read the Qur'an correctly and beautifully, in accordance with the guidance of tajwid and makhraj. Background. Abstract

This study aims to examine the wisdom and ethical values of the Hajj pilgrimage as contained in QS. Al-Baqarah verse 197 and their relevance to the life of Muslims. The research employs a qualitative approach using a library research method. Data are obtained from the Qur’an, particularly QS. Al-Baqarah verse 197, the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), as well as classical and contemporary Qur’anic commentaries, books on Hajj jurisprudence, and relevant Islamic literature. Data analysis is conducted through a descriptive-analytical method to explore the meanings, ethical principles, and spiritual values of Hajj, such as the prohibition of rafath, fusuq, and jidal, and the emphasis on piety (taqwa) as the best provision. The findings indicate that Hajj is not merely an individual ritual worship but also contains strong moral, spiritual, and social dimensions that encourage Muslims to develop both personal piety and social responsibility in their daily lives.

Abstract

This article discusses the meaning and regulations of fasting in Islam as one of the fundamental acts of worship that encompasses theological, spiritual, moral, and social dimensions. The purpose of this study is to explain the definition of fasting from both linguistic and Islamic legal perspectives, to examine its legal foundations, and to describe the laws and types of fasting within the framework of Islamic jurisprudence. The method employed is library research, drawing upon the Qur’an, the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, scholarly consensus (ijma‘), as well as classical and contemporary works of Islamic jurisprudence. The findings indicate that etymologically, fasting means self-restraint, while terminologically it is defined as refraining from all acts that invalidate fasting from dawn until sunset with sincere intention for the sake of Allah. The legal basis of fasting is clearly established in Surah Al-Baqarah verses 183–185, the hadith concerning the pillars of Islam, and the consensus of Muslim scholars regarding the obligation of fasting during the month of Ramadan. This study further explains that fasting is classified into several categories, including obligatory fasting such as Ramadan, qadha, expiation (kafarat), and vows (nazar); recommended fasting such as Mondays and Thursdays, Ayyamul Bidh, Arafah, and Ashura; as well as fasting that is prohibited or disliked at certain times. Substantively, fasting functions as a means of fostering piety, controlling desires, purifying the soul, and cultivating social empathy. Thus, fasting is not merely a ritual practice but also plays a significant role in shaping personal character and maintaining balance in a Muslim’s life. The implications of this study are expected to serve as an academic reference for students and researchers in understanding fasting comprehensively and applying its values in religious and social life based on Islamic principles and social ethics.

Abstract

Interfaith relationships among the younger generation are increasingly seen as a social phenomenon considered normal amidst digital culture, social media, and modern narratives of tolerance. Love is positioned as a personal right that is often considered free from religious boundaries. This study aims to examine the concept of "limited love" in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 221 as the Qur'an's response to the phenomenon of interfaith marriage that is rampant in the Gen Z era. The method in this study uses a qualitative library research approach, primary data sources in the form of the Qur'an and classical and contemporary commentaries, as well as secondary data from journals, books, and legal regulations in Indonesia. The results show that Surah Al-Baqarah verse 221 emphasizes that faith is the main foundation in marriage, while love, physical attraction, and social status are limited by the values of faith. Amid the flow of normalization of interfaith love in the digital space, this verse remains relevant as a guideline in maintaining the balance between freedom of choice of partner and spiritual responsibility in Islam.

Abstract

This study examines the interpretation of verses on worship in the Qur'an, including prayer, fasting, zakat, hajj, knowledge, marriage, and wills, using a thematic interpretation approach (tafsīr maudhu'ī). This study aims to understand the normative and contextual meaning of verses on worship and their relevance to the formation of spirituality and the social order of Muslims. This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach. Library research was chosen because this study focuses on the interpretation of verses on worship in the Qur'an as explained in various scientific works and relevant Islamic literature. The research data sources consist of written data sources in the form of the Qur'an and literature such as journal articles, textbooks, and scientific works that discuss the interpretation of verses on worship. The results of the study indicate that worship in the Qur'an is not only ritual in dimension, but also has moral, social, and humanitarian implications. Prayer fosters spiritual discipline, fasting fosters piety and social empathy, zakat fosters economic justice, the hajj fosters moral awareness and unity among the people, knowledge forms the basis for perfect worship, marriage fosters social peace, and a will ensures post-mortem justice. Thus, the verses of worship form an integral system of worship that unites the vertical and horizontal dimensions of human life.

Abstract

The Hajj and Umrah are acts of worship that hold a fundamental place in Islam, not only as religious rituals but also as a means of spiritual, social, and universal development of humanity. The Qur'an, as the primary source of Islamic teachings, contains several verses governing the implementation, meaning, and purpose of the Hajj and Umrah, scattered throughout various chapters, particularly Surah Al-Baqarah (verses 196–203), Surah Ali Imran (verses 96–97), and Surah Al-Hajj (verses 26–37). This paper aims to analyze the interpretation of the verses on the Hajj and Umrah through a contemporary exegetical perspective, emphasizing their spiritual, social, and universal dimensions in the context of modern life. This research uses a qualitative-descriptive method with a library research approach. The results show that contemporary interpretations focus not only on ritual and legal aspects but also emphasize individual spiritual transformation, communal unity, social equality, environmental awareness, and the relevance of the Hajj and Umrah as a medium for civilizational dialogue in the era of globalization. Thus, the Hajj and Umrah are understood as multidimensional acts of worship with transformative significance for both individuals and the global community.

Abstract

Worship is a fundamental concept in Islamic teachings, directly related to the purpose of human creation. However, in the practice of Muslims, worship is often understood as a limited formal ritual activity, thus not fully grasping it as a concept encompassing all dimensions of life. This research uses a qualitative approach with library research, with the primary data sources being the Quran and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), supported by relevant Islamic books and scholarly articles. The data were analyzed using thematic descriptive-analytical methods. The results show that worship, from the perspective of the Quran and hadith, is not limited to ritual worship but encompasses all human life activities carried out with sincere intentions and in accordance with the guidance of sharia. Worship is also related to human efforts to fulfill their role as servants of God and prepare for life in this world and the hereafter in accordance with the purpose of their creation.

Abstract

Fasting is an act of worship in Islam that not only has a ritual dimension but also contains social values relevant to community life. However, in practice, fasting is often understood narrowly as an act of abstaining from hunger and thirst, so its social values are not fully realized in everyday life. This article aims to examine the interpretation of the verses on fasting in Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 183–187, and analyze their relevance to contemporary social life. This research uses a qualitative approach with library research through a review of the Quran, commentaries, and relevant literature. The results indicate that fasting, from a Quranic perspective, aims not only to foster individual piety but also social piety, reflected in empathy, solidarity, self-control, and concern for others. These values have strong relevance in addressing the challenges of modern social life, so fasting needs to be understood and implemented more comprehensively as a means of moral and social development.
