Abstract

Background: Excessive use of computers and smartphones can cause complaints of dizziness and watery eyes. if it happens continuously, it will be harmful to eye health. Objectives: The study aimed to examine the relationship between the use of computers and smartphones with a decrease in visual acuity. Methods: The study was correlational with a cross-sectional design involving 65 students and selected by total sampling. Data collection about using computers and smartphones used observation sheets and measuring visual acuity by Snellen charts. The Spearman rank test was employed to examine the relationship between variables. Results: The use of computers and smartphones shows that in the high category as many as 10 (15%) respondents, 24 (37%) respondents in the medium category, and 31 (48%) in the low category. The results of the examination of visual acuity in the normal category were 4 respondents (6%), the nearly normal category were 30 (46%) respondents, and the less moderate category were 31 (48%) respondents. The P value (Sig. 2-tailed) is 0.000 with α 0.05, so 0.000 <0.05, meaning that there was a significant relationship between computer and smartphone use with a decrease in visual acuity. Conclusion: The study shows that there was a relationship between the use of computers and smartphones with a decrease in visual acuity

Abstract

Background: Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is an infectious disease caused by the dengue virus, transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. This illness poses a significant public health threat, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions such as Indonesia. Poor environmental sanitation can promote the breeding of the disease vector, leading to an increase in DHF cases. As a result, public awareness and understanding of sanitation practices are essential for preventing and controlling this disease. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the relationship between knowledge of environmental sanitation and the incidence of Dengue Fever in the coastal areas of Mataram City. Methods: This study adopted a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, collecting data at a singular point in time. A structured questionnaire was employed to observe and measure variables within the target population. Two hundred thirteen respondents were selected through systematic random sampling, adhering to clearly defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The primary instruments utilized in this research included a survey sheet and a validated questionnaire. Results: The findings from the Spearman rank correlation test revealed a statistically significant relationship between environmental sanitation and the incidence of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), as indicated by a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The correlation coefficient (r = 0.320) demonstrates a moderate positive association between these two variables. Conclusion and recommendation: This study reveals a statistically significant association between environmental sanitation conditions and the incidence of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), indicating a moderate positive correlation (r = 0.320; p < 0.05). These findings underscore the importance of environmental hygiene as a crucial factor in the transmission dynamics of DHF within the population examined

Abstract

Background: Osteoarthritis is a prevalent condition among the elderly, leading to joint pain. Treatment options for osteoarthritis can include both pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies. One promising non-pharmacological approach is dry cupping therapy. Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the effect of dry cupping therapy in reducing pain levels among the elderly in nursing homes. Methods: The research employed a pre-experimental design utilising a one-group pre-test and post-test approach. The sample consisted of all 26 elderly residents diagnosed with osteoarthritis at the nursing home. The intervention involved administering cupping therapy to the knee for 40 minutes. Pain levels were assessed using the Bourbanis scale before and after the intervention, and data were analysed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: The findings revealed a significant reduction in pain levels following the cupping therapy, with a p-value of 0.000, below the significance threshold of 0.05. This indicates that dry cupping therapy may be an effective complementary treatment for alleviating pain in elderly individuals suffering from osteoarthritis in the nursing home. Conclusion and recommendation: This study concludes that dry cupping therapy effectively reduces pain in elderly patients with osteoarthritis. Therefore, this therapy can be considered a safe and practical non-pharmacological method for managing joint pain related to osteoarthritis.

Abstract

Background: Anemia is a common health issue among adolescents, particularly due to iron deficiency. Poor sleep quality is believed to contribute to the prevalence of anemia; however, the relationship between the two remains a topic of debate. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between sleep patterns and the incidence of anemia in adolescents at a Junior high school. Method: This research employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 161 students, from whom a sample of 115 respondents was selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection involved administering the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire to assess sleep quality and measuring hemoglobin (Hb) levels using the Easy Touch GCHB tool. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square statistical test. Results: The findings revealed that the majority of respondents (55.7%) experienced poor sleep quality, and 44.3% were found to have moderate anemia. The results of the bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test indicated no significant relationship between sleep patterns and the incidence of anemia among junior high school students, with a p-value of 0.217 (>0.05). Conclusion: Sleep quality does not significantly affect the incidence of anemia in junior high school students. Other factors, such as diet, iron intake, and physical activity, may have a greater impact on hemoglobin levels. Therefore, it is essential to enhance health education related to nutrition and establish good sleep patterns to help prevent anemia in adolescents.

Abstract

Background: The global demographic transition underscores the necessity for the development of Age-Friendly Communities (AFCs) aimed at promoting healthy ageing and enhancing community resilience. This study examines the intellectual framework surrounding AFC research from 2015 to 2025, to inform nursing scholarship and public health initiatives. Methods: A comprehensive bibliometric analysis was performed on 245 peer-reviewed articles obtained from the Scopus database, covering the timeframe from 2015 to 2025. This targeted selection adhered to stringent inclusion criteria that emphasize the direct intersection of four key domains: "older adults," "community resilience," "healthy ageing," and "age-friendly communities." The analysis incorporated performance metrics, science mapping, and visualizations using the VOSviewer. Results: Research output saw significant growth post-2020, with a CAGR of over 15%, driven by the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing. While the US, UK, Canada, and Australia (the 'QUAD' group) have historically led in research, East Asian nations, especially China and Japan, are experiencing the fastest growth. The focus in AFC research has shifted from the Built Environment and Policy Adoption to include Digital Inclusion, Community Resilience, and Health Equity. Notably, Nursing Science is gaining importance, with a focus on translational interventions such as intergenerational reminiscence programs and community care models. Conclusion: The field of AFC research is progressing swiftly, with a shift towards data-driven and comprehensive analyses. The findings highlight an urgent need for nursing-led community interventions, especially those that incorporate intergenerational approaches and AFC principles, to address health disparities and enhance resilience among vulnerable older adults worldwide. This underscores the critical role of nursing as a leading discipline in addressing these important issues.
