Abstract

The village of Talaga Ratu in Kairatu Village, West Seram Regency, Maluku Province, is known as a fishing village that produces demersal fish and marlin. However, fishing activities around coral reefs can damage fish habitats, making it essential to protect the environment so that fish populations remain diverse and abundant. One way to achieve this goal is by introducing a variety of fishing gear. The bale-bale technology, a trap fishing gear, offers a solution for the utilization of fish resources, especially flying fish eggs, which have high economic value. This community service activity aims to transfer knowledge about flying fish egg fishing technology as an alternative livelihood for fishermen, to optimally and sustainably utilize the fisheries potential. This activity includes lectures and training on making bale-bale. The results of the questionnaires showed an increase in community understanding of fishing gear diversification. This creates new business opportunities with high market value, which in turn can improve the economy and preserve the coastal island ecosystem.

Abstract

Provinsi Maluku memiliki potensi besar dalam sektor perikanan, khususnya ikan pelagis kecil, yang belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji konstruksi alat tangkap mini purse seine serta pola sebaran hasil tangkapan ikan julung-julung (Hemiramphus sp) di Perairan Teluk Waru, Kabupaten Seram Bagian Timur. Metode yang digunakan adalah experimental fishing selama Juli–Desember 2023, dengan pengumpulan data primer melalui observasi langsung dan wawancara, serta data sekunder dari instansi terkait. Posisi penangkapan dicatat menggunakan GPS dan dipetakan dengan perangkat lunak ArcGIS, sedangkan data hasil tangkapan dianalisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif dan diuji menggunakan t-test untuk melihat perbedaan hasil tangkapan berdasarkan lokasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mini purse seine yang digunakan memiliki panjang jaring 250 meter dan tinggi 24 meter, dengan bahan utama polyamide dan ukuran mata jaring bervariasi antara 1–2 inci. Sistem pelampung dan pemberat dirancang untuk membentuk kantong penjebak ikan secara efisien. Unit operasi terdiri dari kapal utama sepanjang 13,5 meter dan perahu kecil sebagai alat bantu pengamatan gerombolan ikan. Konfigurasi ini terbukti efektif dalam mengoptimalkan penangkapan ikan pelagis kecil. Konstruksi alat tangkap mini purse seine di Teluk Waru sesuai dengan standar teknis perikanan skala kecil yang efisien, efektif, dan berkelanjutan. Hasil penelitian ini dapat menjadi dasar pengembangan teknologi tangkap yang ramah lingkungan dan meningkatkan pemanfaatan sumber daya perikanan secara optimal di wilayah pesisir Maluku.

Abstract

East Seram, Maluku, is one of the regions that still preserves the sasi tradition as a form of local wisdom in managing coastal resources. However, social changes and increasing economic pressures threaten the sustainability of this practice. This community service program aims to strengthen the capacity of sasi management groups through diving training focused on improving knowledge and skills in maintaining and utilizing marine resources sustainably. The training materials covered basic diving techniques, safety, and an introduction to scientific diving to support marine ecotourism and coastal ecosystem monitoring. Evaluation results showed a significant improvement in participants’ understanding and skills related to basic diving principles and underwater conservation. This program contributes to enhancing community competence, strengthening the role of sasi groups, and promoting the development of a sustainable marine ecotourism-based economy

Abstract

The waters of Banda Neira in Central Maluku are known for their high marine biodiversity, including the waulang fish (Priacanthus hamrur), which holds both ecological and economic value. This study aimed to examine the length–weight relationship, gonadal maturity stages, and gonadosomatic index (GSI) as a basis for sustainable fisheries management. The research was conducted from March to April 2024 in Tanah Rata Village, Banda, using fish samples obtained from local fishers through a simple random sampling method. Collected data included total length, body weight, sex, and gonad weight, which were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that P. hamrur exhibited a negative allometric growth pattern, with b values of 1.6664 (females) and 0.9055 (males). The fish length ranged from 21 to 42.3 cm, with weights between 105 and 327 grams. The gonadal maturity stages (GMS) consisted of five reproductive development phases for both sexes. The gonadosomatic index varied from 0.075 to 2.382 in females and from 0.04 to 2.35 in males, with a tendency for GSI to increase with body size. Females generally showed higher GSI values than males, indicating a greater reproductive readiness. These findings provide important insights into the reproductive status and population dynamics of P. hamrur in Banda waters, serving as a basis for sustainable management and conservation of fishery resources.

Abstract

Perairan pesisir Maluku memiliki keanekaragaman ikan yang tinggi dan menjadi wilayah penting bagi perikananskala kecil, sehingga penggunaan alat tangkap yang selektif sangat diperlukan untuk menjaga keberlanjutansumber daya ikan. Jaring insang dasar (bottom gill net) merupakan alat tangkap yang umum digunakan nelayan,namun selektivitas ukuran dan karakteristik hasil tangkapannya masih perlu dikaji secara spesifik di berbagailokasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis komposisi spesies, distribusi ukuran, serta hubungan panjang–berat ikan hasil tangkapan jaring insang dasar di Perairan Tifu, Kabupaten Buru Selatan, Maluku. Penelitiandilakukan selama tiga bulan dengan 15 trip penangkapan menggunakan jaring insang dasar bermata jaring 1¾inci (4,45 cm). Data yang dikumpulkan meliputi identifikasi spesies, pengukuran panjang total, dan berat tubuhikan. Analisis dilakukan terhadap komposisi spesies, distribusi ukuran panjang, serta hubungan panjang–beratpada spesies dominan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa total tangkapan berjumlah 580 individu yang terdiridari 19 spesies. Lima spesies dominan adalah Pterocaesio tile (33,6%), Caesio caerulaurea (11,0%), Myripristissp. (11,6%), Pempheris sp. (8,8%), dan Parupeneus sp. (7,6%). Analisis hubungan panjang–berat menunjukkanempat spesies memiliki pola pertumbuhan alometrik negatif (b < 3), sedangkan Pempheris sp. menunjukkanpertumbuhan alometrik positif (b = 3,027). Distribusi ukuran memperlihatkan bahwa jaring insang dasarcenderung selektif terhadap ikan berukuran menengah hingga dewasa. Secara keseluruhan, hasil penelitian inimenunjukkan bahwa jaring insang dasar bermata 4,45 cm memiliki selektivitas ukuran yang relatif baik danberpotensi mendukung pengelolaan perikanan demersal yang berkelanjutan di Perairan Tifu.

Abstract

Ikan layang cukup melimpah dan memberikan kontribusi bagi perkembangan ekonomi masyarakat Kepulauan Banda. Kelimpahan sumberdaya ikan layang, mendorong perusahaan membangun pendingin (cold storage) dan meningkatkan upaya penangkapan jaring bobo (mini purse seine), dengan melibatkan tenaga kerja lokal. Namun tingginya upaya pemanfaatan tersebut, belum diimbangi dengan pengelolaan secara berkelanjutan berdasarkan aspek biologi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui aspek biologi ikan layang yang meliputi: hubungan panjang-bobot, nisbah kelamin, faktor kondisi, tingkat kematangan gonad (TKG), indeks kematangan gonad (IKG), ukuran pertama kali matang gonad (UPMG) dan fekunditas. Selanjutnya aspek biologi tersebut dikaitkannya dengan implikasi manajemen perikanan tangkap.Penelitian ini dilaksanakan selama enam bulan yakni Juni-November 2022 dengan total sampel sebanyak 1500 ekor yang dikoleksi dari cold store di Banda. Pengambilan sampel dengan teknik simple random sampling. Sampling dilakukan setiap minggu dengan mengukur panjang total dan bobot tubuh ikan, kemudian ikan dibedah untuk pengamatan nisbah kelamin,TKG, IKG dan fekunditas di Laboratorium Perikanan Universitas Banda Naira. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara keseluruhan ikan layang jantan maupun betina memiliki pola pertumbuhan allometrik positif,nisbah kelamin tidak seimbang. Faktor kondisinya berfluktuatif setiap bulan pada kisaran 0,99-1,03. Sebaran TKG dan IKGmengindikasikan ikan layang memijah sepanjang tahun dengan puncaknya pada bulan Juli-Agustus.UPMG ikan jantan 24,14 dan betina 23,74 cm mengalami penurunan 1-2 cm selama 10 tahun terakhir. Fekunditas total sebesar 524-41.720 butir,fekunditas tertinggipada bulan Agustus. Aspek biologi ini, berimplikasi pada manajemen perikanan tangkap ikan layang di kepulauan Banda supaya dapat diatur waktu dan kuota penangkapan untuk menjamin keberlanjutan pemanfaatannya.

Abstract

Hasil tangkapan jaring insang dasar di Dusun Seri Pulau Ambon belum pernah dilaporkan. Tujuan penelitian ini ialah menganalisis hasil tangkapan bottom gill net berdasarkan waktu penangkapan yang berbeda. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan cara eksperimental fishing dan wawancara. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan bantuan program Exel. Hasil analisa menunjukkan bahwa Jumlah hasil tangkapan umum waktu penangkapan pagi dan malam sebanyak 96 dan 173 individu, jenis hasil tangkapan umum waktu penangkapan pagi dan malam sebanyak 91 dan 158 individu, dan ukuran pada waktu penangkapan pagi dan malam berkisar antara 29.2 cm dan 29 cm. Jumlah hasil tangkapan dominan waktu penangkapan pagi dan malam sebanyak 63 dan 91 individu, jenis hasil tangkapan dominan yakni Priachantusteyunus sp, Priacanthus sp, Chirocentrus sp dan Abudefduf sp. Dengan rata-rata ukuran tubuh berturut-turut 17.05 cm, 23.10 cm, 18.10 cm dan 14.65 cm.

Abstract

A purse seine is an active fishing gear used by fishermen in Ambon Island to catch small pelagic fish that gather in high abundance, although the information is still limited. The purpose of this research is to determine the species composition and size distribution of the catch from the mini purse seine in the waters of Outer Ambon Bay (TAL) and South Ambon Island (SPA). From the results of this research, there are four types in TAL waters and two types in SPA. In TAL, the captured fish species were Decapterus sp (Scad), Selar sp (Selar), Sardinella sp (Sardine), and Rastreliger sp (Mackerel). Sardine had the highest catch percentage at 28.41%, followed by scad (25.28%), mackerel (23.27%), and selar (23.04%). In the SPA waters, only scad (Decapterus sp) and selar (Selar sp) were found, with catch percentages of 57.83% and 42.17%, respectively. The average size distribution of scad caught with the mini purse seine in TAL waters was 16.62 cm, selar (17.22 cm), sardine (13.36 cm), and mackerel (17.34 cm). In SPA waters, the average size distribution of scad was 17.59 cm, and selar (16.63 cm).

Abstract

Small pelagic fish play a crucial role in the marine food chain and have significant economic value, yet information about them remains scarce. This research aims to map the origin and characteristics of small pelagic fish marketed at Arumbai Market in Ambon City. The study was conducted over six months, from May to October 2023, at Arumbai Market. The research utilized survey methods and interviews, and the data were analyzed descriptively. Observations were made on the quantity and size structure of four dominant fish species from five different fish landing locations: Hila, Tulehu, Laha, Hitu, and Latuhalat. The results of this research revealed variations in the composition of dominant small pelagic fish species sold, from the highest to the lowest, namely Decapterus sp, Rastreligger sp, Selar sp, and Auxis sp. The contribution of the five fish landing locations is as follows: Hila (31%), Hitu (24%), Tulehu (18%), Laha (15%), and Latuhalat (12%). Differences in the composition of the quantity and size marketed are suspected to be due to variations in seasons, fishing tools, and capture areas.

Abstract

Arumbai Market in Ambon City, Maluku Province, is a central hub for the trade of fishery products, particularly groupers. This study aims to describe the origin of grouper catches and to identify the species and sizes of groupers marketed at Arumbai Market. Groupers, which belong to the family Serranidae, are the primary predators in coral reef ecosystems. Fish identification was conducted based on Allen's guide and verified through FishBase. The study was conducted from December 2022 to February 2023 using a survey method through direct observation and interviews. Data were analyzed descriptively and presented in tables and graphs. The results showed that groupers at Arumbai Market come from four main locations: Manipa (34.47%), Liang (26.81%), Latuhalat (24.26%), and Pulau Tiga (14.47%). Eight dominant species of groupers in this market are Variola albimarginata (44.64%), Cephalopholis miniata (20.60%), Epinephelus fasciatus (12.45%), Epinephelus ongus (6.44%), Cephalopholis urodeta (6.44%), Cephalopholis sonnerati (5.58%), Epinephelus areolatus (3.00%), and Epinephelus fuscoguttatus (0.86%). Grouper sizes vary, with Cephalopholis miniata having a maximum size of 27.1 cm and a minimum size of 19.9 cm. This study provides essential information on the origin of catches, species dominance, and sizes of groupers marketed, which can serve as a basis for better fishery management. These findings indicate a significant potential for grouper trade in the region and highlight the importance of sustainable management to preserve the continuity of coral reef ecosystems and grouper populations.
