Abstract

The socialization of legislation on the utilization of flying fish resources in Southeast Maluku was aimed at enhancing the Ur Island community's understanding of fisheries regulations related to flying fish management. This topic was chosen due to the significant role of flying fish as a key commodity that can boost the welfare of coastal communities in Southeast Maluku. The community service methods included counseling sessions, group discussions, and distributing educational materials that matched the community's comprehension level. The activities resulted in better understanding of the relevant regulations and raised awareness about the importance of sustainable management of flying fish resources. Consequently, this initiative effectively increased the community's knowledge and awareness of using flying fish resources in line with existing laws, which is anticipated to promote both economic and ecological sustainability in Southeast Maluku.

Abstract

The decline in fish populations can negatively impact the livelihoods of fishermen and local food security. Therefore, maintaining the sustainability of fisheries is an urgent necessity. Evaluating the productivity of purse seine catches in the outer waters of Ambon Bay is crucial in this context. This study aims to measure the productivity level of purse seine fishing gear and identify the factors that influence it. The research was conducted from June 2023 to May 2024 in Laha Village, Outer Ambon Bay, Ambon Island. The research method used is a quantitative descriptive method, which aims to describe the productivity of purse seine fishing gear in detail based on data obtained in the form of graphs and tables. Data collection was carried out through field surveys and direct observations during fishing activities. The data analysis results showed that the highest volume and number of trips were in November, with 18 trips and a production volume of 644 kg/trip, while the lowest was in May, with 12 trips and a production volume of 184 kg/trip.

Abstract

Intensified utilization of scad fish and frequent catches of immature fish have disrupted the recruitment of young fish in the wild. This study aims to analyze the length-weight relationship and growth patterns of scad fish. Data were collected at the Fish Auction Place (FAP) of Waai Port, Central Maluku, from February to April 2024. Scad fish samples were measured for length and weight and analyzed using linear regression and multiple analysis to determine the length-weight relationship, with Von Bertalanffy analysis used to examine growth patterns. The study found a coefficient value (b) of 2.6017, indicating that the fish's length growth is faster than its weight increase, showing negatively allometric growth. The growth coefficient (K) is 0.061613 per year, with an asymptotic length of 37.44 cm. The (t0) value, indicating the age when fish length is close to zero, is 0.43 years. These findings suggest that scad fish from this population grow more in length than in weight. This has implications for fisheries management, which must regulate scad fish capture and utilization to prevent disrupting the recruitment and growth of young fish populations. Sustainable management practices are essential to maintain scad fish stocks and the balance of aquatic ecosystems in the region. ABSTRAK Peningkatan upaya pemanfaatan ikan layang yang intensif dan hasil tangkapannya lebih sering terdiri dari ikan-ikan yang belum mencapai ukuran matang gonad pertama kali, menyebabkan terganggunya proses rekruitmen ikan-ikan muda di alam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan panjang-berat serta pola pertumbuhan ikan layang dari populasi tersebut. Pengumpulan data dilakukan di Tempat Pelelangan Ikan (TPI) Pelabuhan Waai, Maluku Tengah, selama periode Februari hingga April 2024. Sampel ikan layang yang didaratkan diukur panjang dan beratnya, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan metode regresi linier serta analisis berganda untuk mengkaji hubungan panjang-berat, serta menggunakan analisis Von Bertalanffy untuk memeriksa pola pertumbuhan ikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai koefisien (b) sebesar 2,6017, yang mengindikasikan pertumbuhan panjang ikan lebih cepat dibandingkan dengan pertambahan beratnya atau pertumbuhan alometrik negatif. Selain itu, ditemukan bahwa koefisien pertumbuhan (K) adalah 0,061613 per tahun dengan panjang asimtotik mencapai 37,44 cm. Nilai (t0), yang menunjukkan usia pada saat panjang ikan mendekati nol, adalah 0,43 tahun. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ikan layang dari populasi yang diteliti mengalami pertumbuhan panjang yang lebih dominan dibandingkan dengan peningkatan beratnya. Kondisi ini dapat berdampak pada strategi manajemen perikanan yang perlu memperhatikan pengaturan penangkapan dan pemanfaatan ikan layang agar tidak mengganggu proses rekruitmen dan pertumbuhan populasi ikan muda di alam. Pengelolaan yang berkelanjutan sangat diperlukan untuk memastikan kelestarian stok ikan layang serta keseimbangan ekosistem perairan di wilayah tersebut. Abstract

The Dobo Fish Auction Place in Aru Islands Regency, is the center of fishermen's activities with good opportunities and prospects if properly utilized, it will make a great contribution to the welfare of fishermen and to the Regional Government. In its implementation, the role of institutions is very important in the management of TPI Dobo. The purpose of this study is to analyze the institutional management of TPI Dobo, as well as provide recommendations for management direction in managing TPI Dobo in Aru Islands Regency so that it is sustainable. This research was carried out from January to May 2024 at TPI Dobo, Aru Islands Regency. The data in this study was collected by observation, interview, and documentation methods. The analysis method used is qualitative descriptive using the management function theory. The results of the analysis on the indicators of planning, organizing, implementation and supervision are not optimal yet, and there are 3 strategies out of 8 strategies that are prioritized as management directions of the Fish Auction Place in Dobo, Aru Islands Regency. ABSTRAK Tempat Pelelangan Ikan (TPI) Dobo di Kabupaten Kepulauan Aru, merupakan sentral kegiatan nelayan dengan peluang dan prospek yang baik. Apabila dimanfaatkan dengan semestinya maka TPI ini akan memberikan kontribusi yang besar bagi kesejahteraan nelayan maupun kepada Pemerintah Daerah Kabupaten Kepulauan Aru. Dalam pelaksanaannya, peran kelembagaan sangat penting dalam pengelolaan TPI Dobo. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis manajemen kelembagaan TPI Dobo, serta memberikan rekomendasi arahan pengelolaan dalam mengelola TPI Dobo di Kabupaten Kepulauan Aru agar berkelanjutan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada Januari-Mei 2024 di TPI Dobo, Kabupaten Kepulauan Aru. Data pada penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan metode observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Metode analisis yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif menggunakan teori fungsi manajemen. Hasil analisa pada indikator perencanaan, pengorganisasian, pelaksanaan dan pengawasan tergolong belum optimal, serta terdapat 3 strategi dari 8 strategi yang merupakan prioritas sebagai arahan pengelolaan TPI Dobo, Kabupaten Kepulauan Aru. Abstract

This research was carried out in the waters of Tulehu, Ambon Island between February and April 2020 to study the reproductive aspects of dark-banded fusilier (Pterocaesio tile) which covers sex ratio, gonad maturity level, gonado somatic index, and first maturity size. Dark-banded fusilier samples were collected on weekly interval from gill net fishers operating in the waters of Tulehu village. The fish samples collected were separated by sex, weighed and measured for its total length. All samples collected were then dissected to take the gonads, determined the gonad maturity stage (GMS) and weighed. The Chi Square test (χ2) with p=0.05 was used to analyze whether there is difference between the ratio of male and female. Gonadal maturity level was determined morphologically based on standard literature, while gonad somatic index was determined based on proportion of gonad weight and fish body weight. The length at first maturity was determined by using logistic curve. The results showed that the ratio between males and females was 1:1 in March and April while in February the ratio was 1≠1. Totally, gonad maturity level of female fish was dominated by GMS IV (52.1%) and the lowest was GMS I (5.9%), while for male fish the lowest GMS was GMS V (3.9%) and the highest was GMS IV (27.9%). The highest gonado somatic index value for male and female fish was owned by GMS IV in April, while the lowest occurred in February for GMS I. The length at first maturity of female and male fish was 20.1 cm. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di perairan negeri Tulehu, Pulau Ambon pada bulan Februari hingga April 2020 untuk mengkaji aspek reproduksi ikan lalosi (Pterocaesio tile) yang meliputi rasio kelamin, tingkat kematangan gonad, gonado somatik indeks dan ukuran pertama kali matang gonad. Sampel ikan lalosi dikumpulkan setiap minggu dari nelayan jaring insang yang beroperasi di perairan negeri Tulehu. Sampel ikan yang terkumpul dipisahkan menurut jenis kelaminnya, ditimbang beratnya dan diukur panjang totalnya. Semua sampel yang dikoleksi kemudian dibedah untuk diambil gonadnya, ditentukan tingkat kematangan gonadnya (TKG) dan ditimbang beratnya. Untuk menganalis apakah ada perbedaan yang nyata antara rasio ikan jantan dan betina digunakan uji Khi Kuadrat (χ2) dengan p=0,05. Tingkat kematangan gonad ditentukan secara morfologis berdasarkan standar literatur, sedangkan gonado somatik indeks ditentukan berdasarkan proporsi berat gonad dan berat tubuh ikan. Panjang pertama kali matang gonad ditentukan menggunakan kurva logistik. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa rasio antara jantan dan betina adalah 1:1 pada bulan Maret dan April sedangkan pada bulan Februari rasionya 1≠1. Secara keseluruhan, tingkat kematangan gonad ikan betina didominasi oleh TKG IV (52,1%) dan terendah TKG I (5,9%), sedangkan untuk ikan jantan TKG terendah adalah TKG V (3,9%) dan tertinggi TKG IV (27,9%). Nilai gonado somatik indeks tertinggi untuk ikan jantan dan betina dimiliki oleh TKG IV pada bulan April sedangkan terendah terjadi pada bulan Februari untuk TKG I. Panjang pertama kali matang gonad untuk ikan betina dan jantan adalah 20,1 cm. Abstract

The village of Talaga Ratu in Kairatu Village, West Seram Regency, Maluku Province, is known as a fishing village that produces demersal fish and marlin. However, fishing activities around coral reefs can damage fish habitats, making it essential to protect the environment so that fish populations remain diverse and abundant. One way to achieve this goal is by introducing a variety of fishing gear. The bale-bale technology, a trap fishing gear, offers a solution for the utilization of fish resources, especially flying fish eggs, which have high economic value. This community service activity aims to transfer knowledge about flying fish egg fishing technology as an alternative livelihood for fishermen, to optimally and sustainably utilize the fisheries potential. This activity includes lectures and training on making bale-bale. The results of the questionnaires showed an increase in community understanding of fishing gear diversification. This creates new business opportunities with high market value, which in turn can improve the economy and preserve the coastal island ecosystem.

Abstract

Flying fish of the Exocoetidae family are abundant in the east monsoon. This fish has important economic value because it is consumed by the public and its eggs are an export commodity. The problem encountered, Ambon Island fishermen only use the fish, the eggs do not. This is due to the unfavorable east monsoon and limited fishing vessels and skills, even though the utilization area is very close to settlements. Therefore socialization of fishing techniques is deemed necessary to improve people's welfare. The socialization was carried out in the Hukurila State PKK Room, Ambon City, Saturday, June 3, 2023, with 29 fishermen. Submission of material in the form of presentations, questions and answers, and discussions. The results of this activity are introducing fishing techniques and utilizing flying fish eggs as an alternative to fishing in the east monsoon. This socialization was welcomed by the fishermen and the government of the country, who agreed to realize this program the following year supported by village funds and youth.

Abstract

Provinsi Maluku memiliki potensi besar dalam sektor perikanan, khususnya ikan pelagis kecil, yang belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji konstruksi alat tangkap mini purse seine serta pola sebaran hasil tangkapan ikan julung-julung (Hemiramphus sp) di Perairan Teluk Waru, Kabupaten Seram Bagian Timur. Metode yang digunakan adalah experimental fishing selama Juli–Desember 2023, dengan pengumpulan data primer melalui observasi langsung dan wawancara, serta data sekunder dari instansi terkait. Posisi penangkapan dicatat menggunakan GPS dan dipetakan dengan perangkat lunak ArcGIS, sedangkan data hasil tangkapan dianalisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif dan diuji menggunakan t-test untuk melihat perbedaan hasil tangkapan berdasarkan lokasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mini purse seine yang digunakan memiliki panjang jaring 250 meter dan tinggi 24 meter, dengan bahan utama polyamide dan ukuran mata jaring bervariasi antara 1–2 inci. Sistem pelampung dan pemberat dirancang untuk membentuk kantong penjebak ikan secara efisien. Unit operasi terdiri dari kapal utama sepanjang 13,5 meter dan perahu kecil sebagai alat bantu pengamatan gerombolan ikan. Konfigurasi ini terbukti efektif dalam mengoptimalkan penangkapan ikan pelagis kecil. Konstruksi alat tangkap mini purse seine di Teluk Waru sesuai dengan standar teknis perikanan skala kecil yang efisien, efektif, dan berkelanjutan. Hasil penelitian ini dapat menjadi dasar pengembangan teknologi tangkap yang ramah lingkungan dan meningkatkan pemanfaatan sumber daya perikanan secara optimal di wilayah pesisir Maluku.

Abstract

East Seram, Maluku, is one of the regions that still preserves the sasi tradition as a form of local wisdom in managing coastal resources. However, social changes and increasing economic pressures threaten the sustainability of this practice. This community service program aims to strengthen the capacity of sasi management groups through diving training focused on improving knowledge and skills in maintaining and utilizing marine resources sustainably. The training materials covered basic diving techniques, safety, and an introduction to scientific diving to support marine ecotourism and coastal ecosystem monitoring. Evaluation results showed a significant improvement in participants’ understanding and skills related to basic diving principles and underwater conservation. This program contributes to enhancing community competence, strengthening the role of sasi groups, and promoting the development of a sustainable marine ecotourism-based economy

Abstract

The waters of Banda Neira in Central Maluku are known for their high marine biodiversity, including the waulang fish (Priacanthus hamrur), which holds both ecological and economic value. This study aimed to examine the length–weight relationship, gonadal maturity stages, and gonadosomatic index (GSI) as a basis for sustainable fisheries management. The research was conducted from March to April 2024 in Tanah Rata Village, Banda, using fish samples obtained from local fishers through a simple random sampling method. Collected data included total length, body weight, sex, and gonad weight, which were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that P. hamrur exhibited a negative allometric growth pattern, with b values of 1.6664 (females) and 0.9055 (males). The fish length ranged from 21 to 42.3 cm, with weights between 105 and 327 grams. The gonadal maturity stages (GMS) consisted of five reproductive development phases for both sexes. The gonadosomatic index varied from 0.075 to 2.382 in females and from 0.04 to 2.35 in males, with a tendency for GSI to increase with body size. Females generally showed higher GSI values than males, indicating a greater reproductive readiness. These findings provide important insights into the reproductive status and population dynamics of P. hamrur in Banda waters, serving as a basis for sustainable management and conservation of fishery resources.
