Abstract

The degenerative disease occurs because of a reduction in the body’s organs’ function. Generally, it occurs in the elderly but nowadays younger people in their productive age also could experience the disease. It can be detected through regular medical checks and the prevention of risk factors. Regular Health Check-ups requires self-awareness, but not everyone is aware to do so. Community service activities with village lecture schemes for degenerative disease dietetic courses were attended by 25 students. Community service activities aimed at increasing public awareness of degenerative diseases by screening and nutritional counseling regularly, namely 3 points of time measurements in 30 days. Measurements were conducted on body composition, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and cholesterol levels. The results are used as reference data for eating management during counseling. There were 53 residents who voluntarily participated. The activity was carried out in Kelurahan 13 Ulu in the Bingen Culinary Village, which is a study program fostered village. The results showed an improvement where 36 people who had hypertension at the initial examination (65.5 %) has decreased to 30 people (54.5 %), high cholesterol levels at the initial examination were 20 people (36.3 %) to 9 people (16.3 %), overweight 40 people (72.7 %) to 39 people (70.0 %). It could be happened because of respondents’ awareness of their initial results supported by their understanding of the importance of eating management based on their health check results.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on child health services at the posyandu, especially monitoring growth and development. The proportion of toddlers who are stunted will increase not only in Indonesia but also in Palembang if children had growth and development disorders that are not monitored as the Posyandu was temporarily closed during the pandemic. WhatsApp can be used as a medium for teleconsultation in an effort to monitor the growth and development of toddlers. This activity provided education to mothers who have toddlers through teleconsultation in the form of information, motivation and solutions for monitoring the growth and development of children. This activity was carried out online using the WhatsApp application by recruiting 37 women in the Whatsapp group. The results of the activity showed that WhatsApp can be used as a teleconsultation media in educating mothers in an effort to monitor the growth and development of toddlers during a pandemic as the Posyandu was temporarily closed. The mother's enthusiasm can be seen from the active teleconsultation process in the WhatsApp group. Through this activity, it concluded that WhatsApp can be used as a teleconsultation media to monitor children's growth even though the mother did not directly receive education at the Posyandu.

Abstract

The prevalence of non-communicable diseases tends to increase from time to time. Surveillance is one of efforts to control non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This service activity aims to increase knowledge and understanding of cadres regarding the importance of implementing community-based surveillance, measure risk factors for NCDs in the elderly, and increase community knowledge and understanding regarding efforts to prevent NCDs. The main activities in this service are strengthening cadres regarding NCDs surveillance, measuring risk factors, and nutrition education. The cadre strengthening activities were attended by 4 elderly posyandu cadres, 30 pre-elderly and elderly people participated in the measurement of NCDs risk factors, and 30 pre-elderly and elderly nutrition education participants. The results of NCDs risk factor measurement show that the majority of risk factor proportions are in the red category (alert) such as hypertension (80%), hyperglycemia (20%), obesity (60%), and high cholesterol (53.3%). Evaluation of nutrition education activities showed that there were significant differences in the average knowledge before and after the educational activities, with an increase in the average knowledge score after education of 2.292. The community is basically very enthusiastic about all the activities that have been held. NCDs risk factor data that has been collected in this activity can be used by policy makers as a basis for making decisions and needs support from the health office, puskesmas, village midwife, and village officials in activating posbindu activities in Burai Village such as measuring NCDs risk factors on a regular basis (recommended at least once every 6 months) in order to monitor and control NCDs risk factors and conduct NCDs education.

Abstract

Anemia has adverse health effects on pregnant women and their fetuses. Anemia during pregnancy will be at risk of giving birth to children with anemia leading to an increased risk of stunted children. EMO DEMO is a form of nutrition education with a simple delivery method developed by GAINing. (Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition). This community service aims to determine anemia in pregnant women and introduce EMO DEMO nutrition education to 30 pregnant women and 5 Posyandu cadres. The EMO DEMO material used food source high in iron named ATIKA (heart, fish, chicken). The activity was carried out in July 2022 in the village of Burai (Ogan Ilir) as stunting locus. The results of measuring hemoglobin levels found that as many as 8 pregnant women (26,7%) had anemia. Pregnant women and cadres found it easy to remember food ingredients that were good sources of iron during pregnancy. After participating in this EMO DEMO, it was expected participants could consume foods high in iron to prevent anemia during pregnancy. Furthermore, cadres could use the EMO DEMO method to conduct nutrition education for other pregnant women.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are chronic diseases often not realized by sufferers and continue to experience a significant increase. They are the largest contributor to the cause of death in the world. NCDs also affect a person's susceptibility to exposure to coronavirus 19 (covid 19) and increase the severity of covid 19 sufferers. This study aimed to design a health application that the community can use for early detection of NCD risk factors, especially modifiable behavioral risk factors and metabolic risk factors. The application design method used the prototype method. Needs analysis and application trials were conducted at Sriwijaya University. A needs analysis was performed by conducting in-depth interviews with five students, three lecturers, three employees, a leadership of faculty, and ahead of the university's healthy campus program. User trial results are evaluated through Zoom and by filling out a questionnaire on Google Forms. The results of the needs analysis survey showed that most users want the design of an Android-based health application that assesses the risk of NCDs and recommendations for the results of risk assessment. In conclusion, an android-based health application has been designed to independently detect the risk of non-communicable diseases under the name DERI PTM. This application can be developed into an effective educational media for preventing and controlling non-communicable diseases in the community. It can be utilized as an information system (surveillance) of NCDs at Sriwijaya University.

Abstract

In order to achieve quality standards that are fit for consumption, food quality evaluation evaluates the quality of food ingredients that have undergone processing or cooking. A snack bar called Puanchi Bar was created by using local ingredients in its production, including red mold rice, snakehead fish, and puan sugar. The study was conducted to ensure that Puanchi Bar is practical and complies with established criteria. A laboratory test employing tools and a triangle test are utilized in the physical and chemical characteristic tests to determine whether or not there is a difference between the three formulations. Tests were carried out on 3 selected formulas namely F3, F6, and F9. In the texture and color tests there were insignificant differences but in the moisture content and ash content there were significant differences in the three formulations. In testing conducted in laboratories, Puanchi Bar F3 was shown to have the best texture, color, moisture content, and ash content while still meeting the criteria. Based on aroma, texture, and color factors, the Puanchi Bar F3 formula was the most distinctive and popular among the 18 panelists, according to the findings of the triangle test. It may be said that Puanchi Bar F3 is the best formula in terms of physical characterization, chemical characterization, and the result of the triangle test.
