Abstract

Introduction:  Hypertension is a major global health issue contributing significantly to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In Indonesia, the increasing prevalence of hypertension highlights the need for effective, low-cost, non-pharmacological interventions, such as Slow Stroke Back Massage (SSBM), which may offer physiological and psychological benefits.  Objectives:  This study aimed to determine the effect of Slow Stroke Back Massage on reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure among individuals with primary hypertension.  Methods:  A quasi-experimental study using a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was conducted. Participants aged 40–70 years with primary hypertension were purposively selected and divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received SSBM once daily for three consecutive days, while the control group received standard care. Blood pressure measurements were recorded before and after intervention using calibrated digital sphygmomanometers. Data were analyzed using paired and independent t-tests. Results:  The intervention group experienced a significant reduction in both systolic (from 150.2 ± 10.5 mmHg to 137.6 ± 9.8 mmHg) and diastolic (from 95.8 ± 6.2 mmHg to 87.3 ± 5.6 mmHg) blood pressure (p < 0.001). No statistically significant changes were observed in the control group. These results support the efficacy of SSBM as an adjunctive therapy in hypertension management.  Conclusions: SSBM is an effective, low-cost, and non-invasive complementary intervention for lowering blood pressure in patients with primary hypertension. It can be integrated into nursing care practices, especially in primary healthcare settings, to enhance hypertension management outcomes.

Abstract

Fine motor development is a crucial aspect for preschool children, yet not all children progress at the same rate. Despite its importance, the appropriate methods for stimulating this development are not well understood. This study aims to analyze the impact of cutting and pasting play therapy on the fine motor development of preschool children at TK Al-Hidayah Curah Kalak, Situbondo Regency. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest format and no control group. The sample consisted of 40 children selected through total sampling. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test to evaluate differences before and after the intervention. Before the intervention, 75% of children were classified as "Suspect" in the cutting activity, and 77.5% were classified as "Suspect" in the pasting activity. After the intervention, 85% of the children reached the "Normal" category in the cutting activity, and 90% in the pasting activity. The Wilcoxon test results showed a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant effect of the play therapy on improving the children's fine motor skills. Cutting and pasting play therapy significantly enhanced the fine motor development of preschool children at TK Al-Hidayah Curah Kalak, Situbondo Regency.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases and a major risk factor for severe complications such as stroke, kidney failure, and cardiovascular disorders. Its management requires long-term strategies that go beyond pharmacological treatment and rely heavily on patients’ ability to engage in effective self-management. However, low levels of self-efficacy and motivation often hinder patients’ adherence to treatment regimens and lifestyle modifications. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-efficacy, motivation, and self-management among hypertensive patients. An observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach was applied, involving 163 respondents recruited through total sampling. Data were collected using the General Self Efficacy Scale (GSES), the Treatment Self Regulation Questionnaire (TSRQ), and the Hypertension Self Management Behavior Questionnaire (HSMBQ). Statistical analysis was conducted using Spearman’s correlation test. The findings revealed significant relationships between self-efficacy and self-management (p=0.003) and between motivation and self-management (p=0.005). These results emphasize that enhancing patients’ psychological empowerment and motivation is essential for successful self-management of hypertension. The study suggests that comprehensive interventions integrating health education, family support, and motivational strategies are needed to strengthen patients’ adherence to healthy lifestyles and treatment regimens. By addressing these psychological and behavioral aspects, healthcare providers can help reduce the risk of complications and improve patients’ overall quality of life. Consequently, this research provides valuable insights and a scientific basis for designing more effective primary care interventions targeting hypertensive populations.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a major public health challenge in Indonesia, particularly in densely populated environments such as Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). Crowded dormitories, shared sanitation facilities, and numerous water containers create favorable conditions for mosquito breeding, resulting in recurrent dengue cases and low larva-free indices in several pesantren in East Java. This community-based program was implemented to strengthen dengue prevention through the integration of structured health education, simple ovitrap technology, and a digital larva-monitoring website as a digital engagement model for Santri Jumantik. The program employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design conducted over three months (September–November 2025) at a pesantren in Probolinggo, involving 30 students. Interventions included dengue and PHBS education, hands-on training in constructing low-cost ovitraps from recycled materials, and weekly larval surveillance reported through a web-based monitoring system. Data were collected using knowledge questionnaires, ovitrap observations, larva-free index (ABJ) measurements, and website activity logs, and analyzed descriptively and using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in students’ knowledge (Z = –3.996; p < 0.001), with high-level knowledge increasing from 26.7% to 86.7%. Ecological indicators also improved, as the ABJ increased from 72% to 80% and ovitrap positivity declined over time. Digital reporting compliance reached 92%, indicating strong student engagement. This integrated approach effectively strengthened dengue prevention practices and offers a scalable model for transforming pesantren into healthier learning environments.
