Abstract

The wide spectrum of English language compels readers to find out the exact crux of the language itself. English has won the status of international language. It has become a dire need of this age. The English language is comparatively difficult due to its pronunciation, sentence structure and vocabulary level from local languages in Pakistan. Vocabulary is the utmost aspect of learning a second language. It is the essence and soul of language. The language process depends on learning vocabulary. So the current paper investigates the impact of vocabulary learning strategies for the ESL learners in Pakistan. It was an experimental type of research. One hundred students of Grade-9 in the academic year 2019-20 participated in this study. The data was collected through test and questionnaire. The study results revealed that the students who were taught by the ESL learning techniques (semantic mapping, imaging and pics, visual and auditory, group association and word contact) performed better as compared with the students in the traditional vocabulary learning method. Female students performed better in the experimental group. ESL male learners used group association learning technique at priority, and ESL female learners used visual and auditory learning at their priority. The researchers recommend that English language teachers should use vocabulary learning strategies for teaching English to ESL learners.

Abstract

This research examines the transformation of political communication strategies in the digital era, specifically the use of Instagram by Tegal Regency's candidate Regents in the 2024 Regional Election. The high social media penetration in Indonesia, with 97% of Instagram users actively interacting, creates new opportunities and challenges in regional-level political communication. The research aims to analyze the digital personal branding strategies and political communication effectiveness of both candidates through Instagram. The research method employs a descriptive qualitative approach with social media content analysis using Nvivo 12 Pro, focusing on Instagram accounts @bimasakti19 and @ischak.mr during the September-October 2024 period. Research findings show significant strategy differences between the two candidates: @bimasakti19 implements an interactive approach with consistent hashtag #LOKENPANKAYAKIEBAE and actively reposts community support, while @ischak.mr focuses on field activity documentation and direct interaction. Word cloud analysis reveals the dominance of keywords related to public service and local issues. In conclusion, Instagram has become a vital instrument in local political communication transformation, creating a more dynamic dialogue space between candidates and voters, although still requiring balance between digital branding strategy and political message authenticity.

Abstract

In the evolving landscape of global economics, the significant role of women in the informal economy, particularly housewives, remains underexplored. This study examines the gender dynamics and economic contributions of housewives in the informal economy, focusing on the context of Islamic values and multicultural societies in Poigar Village. Using a qualitative approach, this research delves into how housewives balance domestic responsibilities and economic activities, particularly through cake sales, to enhance family well-being. Key findings highlight the motivations driving housewives to engage in informal economic activities, such as economic necessity, skill utilization, and the pursuit of financial independence. Additionally, these activities are shown to significantly improve family income, enhance financial stability, and foster social recognition. From an Islamic perspective, these efforts align with principles of family cooperation, economic empowerment, and spiritual reward. The study underscores the importance of policies that support women in informal economies, such as access to capital, skill training, and social acknowledgment of their contributions. Future research should explore broader and more diverse samples to generalize findings and examine the long-term impacts of women's economic participation in similar contexts.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the incorporation of the tenets of Atomic Habits in pedagogical practice and to examine how teachers employ habit-based techniques to influence student learning. As the education system more and more encourages this approach to improving engagement and academic success, it becomes critically important to understand how small, consistent changes in behavior can impact learning. The aim of this study is to demonstrate how Atomic Habits by James Clear, a bestseller that details the laws of habit, can be applied to teaching and how this application may benefit student motivation, behavior, and outcomes. A qualitative methodology was employed, which consisted of 15 personal interviews with teachers from secondary schools. The teachers, from schools in Narowal, Pakistan, were purposively chosen. The analysis also included content analysis of the book Atomic Habits as well as related academic literature to analyze whether reported habit formation strategies offered a potential reality check and correlation with student success. Interview data were thematically analyzed to determine key learning regarding the application and impacts of habit-based strategies. The results indicate that when teachers employed strategies like identity-based habits, habit stacking, and environmental structuring, they experienced an enhancement in the students’ motivation, academic engagement, and performance. However, some limitations were identified, including the ability to maintain a common approach across a range of student interests and class sizes. This study adds to our knowledge of how small-scale, incremental changes in students' behavior will, through habit-building interventions, have the potential to greatly improve educational performance. The findings of the study imply that habit-based teaching methods may have a tremendous impact on student performance. Subsequent research could investigate the longer-term effects of habit creation on students' outcomes and examine the role that technology can play when used to support habit formation within an educational setting.

Abstract

Poetry writing is a fundamental component of language learning that fosters creativity, expressive ability, and cultural appreciation, yet many students encounter difficulties in developing ideas, selecting appropriate diction, and structuring their poems coherently. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the acrostic technique in improving poetry writing skills among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 11 Bengkulu Tengah. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, the research involved 27 students selected purposively, with data collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of student poetry. Data were analyzed through reduction, classification, and interpretation, with triangulation, peer debriefing, and member checking ensuring credibility. The results indicated significant improvement in students’ creativity, diction, and structural organization after the application of the acrostic technique, as reflected in richer vocabulary use, clearer thematic expression, and more coherent poetic forms. The discussion highlights that the acrostic method provides a structured yet flexible framework that stimulates student engagement and encourages originality, aligning well with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum. The implication of this study is that the acrostic technique can serve as an innovative and practical pedagogical strategy to enhance poetry writing skills in secondary education, while also contributing to curriculum innovation and the promotion of literary creativity in language learning.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of the traditional game layangan sendaren as a medium for language and literature learning at MI Plus Nurul Huda, an Islamic elementary school in Banjar City, Indonesia. The research focuses on three main problems: how the game is applied in the learning process, its impact on students’ language skills—especially vocabulary and oral literary expressions—and its role in preserving and enhancing students’ awareness of local Sundanese culture. Employing a qualitative ethnopedagogical approach, data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and learning activity documentation. The findings reveal that layangan sendaren effectively increases student engagement, enriches vocabulary, and improves oral literary skills such as rhymes, metaphors, and proverbs. Additionally, the game plays a significant role in fostering cultural identity and appreciation by connecting students with their Sundanese heritage. This study suggests that integrating traditional cultural elements into language and literature education can enhance linguistic competence while promoting cultural preservation and character development in primary education contexts. Keywords: Traditional game, Language learning, Oral literature, Cultural awareness, Ethnopedagogy Abstrak Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi implementasi permainan tradisional layangan sendaren sebagai media pembelajaran bahasa dan sastra di MI Plus Nurul Huda, sebuah sekolah dasar Islam di Kota Banjar, Indonesia. Abstract

This study investigates the psychological impact of social media on female teachers in Islamic schools and their readiness to manage its negative effects. Using a mixed-methods design and Rasch model analysis, data were collected from 621 teachers across diverse Indonesian regions. The findings reveal significant variations in perceived mental health impact and coping readiness based on age, education level, region, and social media usage patterns. Teachers with high engagement, especially on visual platforms like Instagram and TikTok, reported increased psychological stress. Rasch-based DIF analysis highlighted item-level disparities across demographic subgroups. The study offers a novel contribution by integrating Islamic concepts maqashid syariah, fitrah, and ihsan into the interpretation of digital mental health, emphasizing the spiritual and cultural dimensions of resilience. The results underscore the importance of culturally sensitive interventions that support both psychological well-being and religious identity. Limitations include the study’s cross-sectional nature and context-specific sample.
