Abstract

The maintenance of dental health in school-aged children is crucial as their dental condition will impact their oral health in adulthood. Consumption habits of cariogenic foods such as sugar can increase the risk of dental caries. Therefore, regulating dietary patterns to avoid excessive sugar consumption is important in reducing this risk. The aim of this study is to elucidate the cariogenic dietary patterns in school children concerning the status of dental and oral health through article reviews. The research strategy employed was a literature review obtained from academic databases including Google Scholar, ProQuest, and Science Direct, focusing on publications within the last 5 years. Keywords used were "Cariogenic food," "Cariogenic," "School Children," and "Oral Hygiene," searched using Boolean method, yielding 4 articles for analysis. Two journals were found addressing oral health maintenance behaviors, one focusing on brushing time, five discussing cariogenic snacking patterns, one examining dental visits, and two exploring dental caries and brushing frequency. The majority of journals utilized a cross-sectional study design, with one employing descriptive analytics study design. The sample sizes varied from 40 to 550 respondents. From the results of this research, it is concluded that the consumption pattern of cariogenic foods, such as biscuits and donuts, has a significant impact on the incidence of dental caries among elementary school children and junior high school students in various regions.

Abstract

Early childhood is the most appropriate time to instill values to instill positive behavior in children. Prevention of caries in children needs to be instilled early on seeing the impact of caries which can interfere with chewing function which leads to a lack of nutritional intake received by children. Prevention of caries can be done by maintaining dental health, one of which is done by brushing teeth. By brushing your teeth, you can maintain the cleanliness and strength of your teeth, but the wrong way of brushing cannot maximize oral hygiene. Therefore, knowledge of how to brush teeth properly and correctly is needed, in order to improve the quality of oral hygiene to the maximum. Making innovative media is very useful for increasing knowledge and attracting school-age children to pay attention to oral health. The author makes media in the form of a popup castle as an effort to prevent rampant caries in school-age children so that this media can make it easier for school-age children to understand efforts to maintain oral health. Objective: To describe the increase in school-age children's interest in maintaining oral health and hygiene by using castle popup media. Methods: The method we use in this counseling is game-based learning. The game method that we use is also based on the media that we offer in the form of a pop-up castle where in this media there are several materials including foods that are good for dental health and how to brush teeth properly and correctly and the right time to brush teeth. The game that we apply aims to review the material that has been explained during counseling. Results: 1) There is an increase in the knowledge of fourth grade students of SD Islam Maryam about oral health. 2) There is an increase in the interest of school-age children in maintaining oral health and hygiene by using castle popup media. 3) There is an improvement in the oral health status and behavior (knowledge, attitudes and actions) of elementary school students so that it can support general health. 4) This counseling activity is effective because it uses castle pop up media with a predetermined design and dental phantom so that the message conveyed can be understood by the target. 5) The final report and article will be included as a scientific publication in an accredited journal after the service. 6) The weakness of this activity is that it does not use other conventional counseling as a comparison.

Abstract

Cross-programme cooperation between the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) room and the Dental and Oral Health room is one form of cooperation that is quite influential on the level of oral health of pregnant women. MCH which is a form of Puskesmas main activity is not only tasked with recording or knowing early all abnormalities or cases or complaints found in hard tissue and soft tissue in the oral cavity of pregnant women, but MCH also provides referral efforts to the Dental and Oral Health room for oral health care which involves the role of dentists and dental nurses. This community service aims to increase the knowledge of dental nurses in supporting integrated ANC at the Lamongan Regency Health Centre, various factors that affect the performance of dental nurses in the implementation of integrated ANC. From the results of the research, a fik performance model was found and can be taken into consideration by dental nurses in supporting the implementation of integrated ANC at the Puskesmas. The method used was to provide training for dental nurses working at Puskesmas in the Lamongan District Health Office working area, using lecture and discussion methods and questions and answers. The targets and outcomes achieved in this service are: 1) Increased knowledge of dental nurses about Ante Natal Care (ANC) and dental and oral diseases as well as systemic diseases related to pregnancy in increasing K1 visits of pregnant women at Puskesmas. This knowledge is expected to increase the visits of pregnant women to the dental clinic of the health centre. 2) Final report and article that will be included as a scientific publication in an accredited journal after the service. 3) Obtaining Haki for this module and community service. After this activity is completed, dental nurses can make efforts to increase integrated ANC visits at the Puskesmas where they work, which so far have not reached the target of visiting pregnant women in the dental clinic (Integrated ANC) not 100% so that the oral health status of pregnant women becomes better
