Abstract

The al-Qur'an, as the word of God (kalāmullāh), has various multidimensional functions for Muslims, one of which is as a healer (al-Shifa'), for both spiritual and physical ailments. In a spiritual context, the al-Qur'an cures ailments of the heart such as misguidance, doubt, and ignorance; while in the physical aspect, the al-Qur'an serves as a means of healing through the practice of ruqyah syar'iyyah. This article aimed to examine the meaning of al-Shifa' using the thematic exegesis method (tafsīr mawḍūʿī), compile related verses, and examine the views of classical exegetes such as Ibn Kathīr and al-Rāzī, as well as contemporary exegetes such as Quraish Shihab and Wahbah al-Zuḥailī. This study also highlighted the practical implementation of the concept of al-Shifa' in the lives of Muslims, particularly in the spiritual realm and al-Quran-based alternative medicine. This study employed a qualitative approach with a literature review, examining primary literature in the form of al-Quran verses and Qur’anic exegesis books, as well as secondary literature in the form of articles, journals, and books related to Qur'anic healing. The results showed that the al-Quran, as a source of healing, had a holistic function: healing psychological and emotional aspects, and was used in physical treatment through ruqyah. Scholars agreed that the meaning of syifā' was not merely physical, but rather profoundly spiritual and theological. In practice, reciting certain verses from the al-Quran was believed to calm the soul, alleviate anxiety, and be part of faith therapy. The concept of al-Syifā' in the al-Quran provided an understanding that true healing came not only from medical treatment but also through spiritual closeness to God. The al-Quran presented a comprehensive solution to address the physical and spiritual crises facing modern humans.

Abstract

This study explores the concept, roles, and responsibilities of ulama from the perspective of the Qur’an, highlighting their theological significance and sociocultural function in both classical and contemporary Islamic thought. Utilizing a qualitative approach based on systematic literature review, the research draws upon selected Qur’anic verses, classical tafsir, and modern scholarly works to identify core attributes of ulama, including their intellectual authority, moral integrity, and social leadership. The study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how the Qur’an frames the position of ulama not only as religious teachers but as ethical agents entrusted with the preservation and contextualization of divine guidance. The findings reveal that the Qur’an emphasizes the interconnectedness between knowledge (‘ilm), piety (taqwa), and wisdom (hikmah), and positions the ulama as individuals who embody these principles in guiding the Muslim community. Furthermore, the study discusses how the function of ulama has evolved in response to modern challenges such as globalization, digital media, and ideological fragmentation. The research concludes that a Qur’an-based understanding of ulama offers a timeless yet dynamic model for religious leadership, capable of addressing both spiritual and societal needs in contemporary Muslim societies. The study also provides theoretical and managerial implications for Islamic education institutions, policy-makers, and religious authorities seeking to enhance the role of ulama in the 21st century.

Abstract

This article aims to find out the meaning of work ethic and the verses of the Qur'an that describe it, and the relevance of verses about work ethic in increasing the work productivity of Muslims. In Islam, a Muslim is a worker. The deep belief that work is a way to demonstrate good deeds as well as a means of glorification is the basis of the Muslim work ethic. Muslims are also taught to strive for a balance between material success in this world and the afterlife. A Muslim who works to worship Allah must sincerely remember His rights and obey moral laws. It is hoped that the application of religious precepts in everyday life will increase the level of welfare as stated in the Al-Qur'an and Sunnah. A Muslim is taught a strong work ethic so that he can serve Allah and live a better life. Additionally, Muslims must face the free market times and struggle to survive and earn a respectable life based on their extraordinary talents and work ethic. A literature review or literature research methodology was used to write this article. From the results of the discussion, it was discovered that the Qur'an contains many verses about work ethics, one of which requires humans to work to manage the land and improve its welfare. Tauhid has a strong work ethic because he is the main worker. Although the section on work ethics has many benefits in helping Muslims be more productive at work, the reality is very different from what one might think.
