Abstract

The issue of inadequate breast milk (ASI) production among lactating mothers is a primary obstacle to the practice of exclusive breastfeeding for six months. “Insufficient breast milk production may stem from stress, exhaustion, inadequate nursing stimulation, or insufficient lactation-supportive nutrition. This study sought to assess the impact of katuk leaf (Sauropus androgynus) decoction on breast milk production in breastfeeding mothers residing in Kurungan Nyawa I Village, Buay Madang District, East OKU Regency. The intervention is providing 150 ml of Katuk leaf decoction everyday for seven consecutive days. This study employed a quasi-experimental design utilizing a pretest-posttest methodology without a control group. The sample comprised 17 lactating mothers. The Shapiro-Wilk test was employed to assess data normality, and the data were analyzed using the Paired Sample T-Test. The results indicated a substantial impact of Katuk leaf decoction on enhancing breast milk production, with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05). The mean breast milk volume prior to treatment was 76.47 ml, which rose to 122.12 ml post-intervention, reflecting an average increase of 45.53 ml. This notable enhancement indicates that katuk leaf decoction positively influences breast milk production. Breastfeeding women with insufficient milk supply are advised to take katuk leaf decoction as a natural remedy to enhance lactation.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is an important effort to improve public health and prevent various environmental-based diseases such as Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) and diarrhea. Low public knowledge about PHBS can increase the risk of these diseases. Preliminary study results in Serigeni Lama Village showed that some community members had not fully implemented clean and healthy living behaviors in their daily lives. This study aimed to determine the implementation of PHBS counseling as an effort to prevent DHF and diarrhea in the community of Serigeni Lama Village. The research method used was descriptive with a quantitative approach using a one group pretest–posttest design. The activity was carried out on February 6, 2026, at the Serigeni Lama Village Hall with 95 community members participating in the counseling activity. The results showed that before the counseling, most participants were in the poor knowledge category with 45 people (47%), followed by moderate knowledge with 32 people (34%), and good knowledge with 18 people (19%). After the counseling, the good knowledge category increased to 67 people (71%), moderate knowledge became 21 people (22%), and poor knowledge decreased to 7 people (7%). In conclusion, PHBS counseling activities were effective in increasing community knowledge regarding the prevention of DHF and diarrhea through the implementation of clean and healthy living behaviors.

Abstract

Hypertension in the elderly can lead to serious complications such as stroke and heart failure. In addition topharmacological therapy, non-pharmacological interventions are needed to improve patient comfort, one of which isprogressive muscle relaxation therapy. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of progressive muscle relaxation therapy in improving comfort among elderly patients with hypertension at Bhayangkara Moh. Hasan Hospital, Palembang. The research method used a descriptive case study design with two hypertensive patients. One patient received progressive muscle relaxation therapy for three days, while the other patient received only standard pharmacological therapy. Data werecollected through observation, interviews, and clinical records. Results showed that patients who underwent progressivemuscle relaxation therapy experienced increased comfort, better sleep, decreased headaches, and a blood pressure drop to120/80 mmHg. Meanwhile, patients who received only pharmacological therapy experienced partial improvement. Inconclusion, progressive muscle relaxation therapy is effective in improving comfort and stabilizing blood pressure, and is therefore recommended as a complementary intervention to pharmacological therapy in elderly hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Background: Joint pain is a common complaint experienced by many people, especially the elderly. One of the non-pharmacological methods that can be used to reduce pain is warm water compress therapy using cinnamon powder (Cinnamomum). This compress provides a warming effect that can decrease muscle spasms, improve blood circulation, and help suppress the inflammatory response in the joint area. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of a warm water compress with cinnamon powder (Cinnamomum) on changes in the pain scale of gout arthritis among the elderly at Bukit Selabu Sekayu Public Health Center. Methods This research used a pre-experimental design with a One Group Pre-Test Post-Test approach. The sample consisted of 35 elderly respondents, selected through total sampling. The research instruments included the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for administering the warm water compress with cinnamon powder and an observation sheet using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results : The findings showed that the mean pain score before the intervention was 4.63 (moderate pain category), and after the warm water compress with cinnamon powder was applied, it decreased to 1.97 (mild pain category). The statistical test obtained a p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between pre- and post-intervention. A 2.66-point reduction on the NRS was considered clinically meaningful, showing that this therapy effectively reduced joint pain in the elderly. Conclusion: The application of a warm water compress with cinnamon powder (Cinnamomum) was proven to be statistically and clinically effective in reducing joint pain levels among elderly patients with gout arthritis. This therapy can serve as a safe and practical non-pharmacological alternative that can be applied in primary health care services.
