Abstract

This article explores the implementation and impact of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) in engineering programs, emphasizing the shift from traditional methods to focusing on students' higher-order thinking and practical skills. It highlights how various educational standards, such as those from Engineers Australia and ABET, align with OBE principles. Using an anonymous online survey, the study evaluates the Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) achievement among graduates from the Mechanical Engineering Education Department at Universitas Negeri Medan. The survey covers graduates' skills in areas like mathematical tools, 3D modeling, and engineering project execution. Results indicate that while some PEOs are satisfactorily achieved, others, such as PEO3 (3D modeling skills) and PEO7 (experimental approaches), require improvement. The study suggests enhancing curriculum components to better align with industry needs and continuously improve educational quality. Future research should incorporate employer feedback to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of graduates' preparedness.

Abstract

Educators have developed a model to facilitate the learning of various competencies and the assessment of student understanding. The methods applied include lectures, assignments to be completed at home, and written exams. Meanwhile, to develop non-technical competencies such as leadership skills, a more comprehensive approach is required. This article outlines the findings of a controlled study that implemented Problem-Based Learning (PBL) to teach these skills. The effectiveness of this method was measured using the Competing Value Framework (CVF) developed by Quinn in 2004. The research results indicate a significant statistical improvement in students' ability to set goals and identify and organize activities to achieve these goals. The included literature review also emphasizes the suitability of PBL in teaching both technical and non-technical competencies.

Abstract

The preliminary analysis results indicate that the quality of automotive vocational learning is not optimal. This study aims to develop a work-based learning model that incorporates the Teaching Factory concept (WBL-TEFA) with the goal of enhancing the learning achievement of automotive vocational students. Research and Development (R&D) with the 4D model were implemented in this study. The results indicate that the WBL-TEFA learning model introduced novel elements to the model syntax through the following activity steps: (1) initiation, (2) receiving orders, (3) gathering necessary information, (4) generating and sorting possible solutions, (5) executing orders, (6) quality control, and (7) assessment. To implement this syntax, various supporting materials were developed, including model handbooks, lecturer and student manuals, and textbooks. Following the implementation, the experimental class demonstrated a significantly higher learning achievement gain score of 51.62 compared to the control class, which achieved a gain score of 42.52. Additionally, there was an improvement in task management abilities, work environment skills, interpersonal skills, workplace learning skills, and student critical thinking. In summary, the utilization of the WBL-TEFA learning model proved effective in enhancing students' academic performance, as evidenced by a statistically significant.

Abstract

In the process of separating leaves with sticks, the community in the Timbang Lawan Village area still uses human power and is done manually with a knife or machete. The solution is to make a stick shaver machine using a mechanical system with a capacity that is tailored to the needs of the user. The aim is to help increase the yield of palm oil sticks. The implementation method begins with examining the lack of technology and equipment in palm oil palm stick extraction, with stages 1). Follow-up surveys to partner locations to find out the work process of slashing and the output capacity to be achieved to meet market demand; 2). The design of the palm oil stick shaving machine uses mechanical energy; 3) Manufacture of palm oil stick crusher machine. 4) Test and install palm oil stick scraper machine before giving it to partners. 5) Socialization on how to maintain the shaver machine in Timbang Lawan Village. 6) handover of the shaver machine unit to the community group in Timbang Lawan Village. The results obtained where the shaved stick machine that has been completed is then handed over to the PKM partner. The machine can be operated and used by partners, where the production of palm oil sticks obtained increases by more than 100% or has a capacity of 15 kg/hour sticks, compared to manual which only gets 2 to 5 kg/3 hours of clean sticks

In this study, undergraduate students of Computer and Electricical Engineering often work under strict deadlines and face pressure to deliver high-quality code. In this study, undergraduate students often work under strict deadlines and face pressure to deliver high-quality code. This can lead to anxiety as they strive to meet expectations and complete tasks on time. Programming involves solving complex problems, and sometimes the solutions are not immediately apparent. This can create anxiety as programmers grapple with uncertainty and the fear of making mistakes for undergraduate students. The purpose of this quantitative study was to look into anxiety as the root cause of students' poor programming performance. The results of this study will aid in providing the most effective approach for instructing and learning programming courses in order to generate competent programmers for use in business settings and higher education. Data for this quantitative study were gathered via the questionnaire. The study found that the degree of unfavourable beliefs about control in computing scenarios and the low level of computing self-efficacy found in this study indicate that computer programming course designers must come up with ways to boost students' confidence and motivation.
