Abstract

Vibration testing in the field of mechanical engineering has an important role in planning and maintaining machines to determine whether the design is safe and suitable for application. Newton's second law is a reference for back-and-forth movement around equilibrium both within the system and from outside the system which affects the machine itself, if the frequency of stimulation is equal to one of the system's natural frequencies, then resonance occurs, and dangerously large oscillations, resonance can cause damage to the system. The solution to avoid excessive resonance requires a damper. Forced vibration oscillations are applied by excitation using an unbalanced mass installed on a DC motor unit, the response is a mass deviation to obtain oscillations or time relationships with amplitude, the natural frequency of the system, mass-spring deviation, and characteristics of vibration. This activity aims to analyze the effect of the vibration amplitude of a forced vibration simulator under conditions without damping and using damping. The experimental test method was applied to a forced vibration system with one degree of freedom with an oil and air damper in a simple vibration apparatus simulator, 2 types of unbalanced masses, regulated by rotation up to 500rpm, tested under conditions without a damper, using an oil and air damper. The results of the activity showed that the air-dampening media can limit greater amplitude compared to the oil-dampening media.

Abstract

Data from the Central Statistics Agency for West Java Province in the 2023 figures show that the installed electric power in 2022 is 30,196.9 MVA. Based on data from the Indonesia Energy Transition Outlook 2023, West Java Province is in the lowest classification with a percentage of 7-23%. An increase in the number of pico-hydro power plants with a low-head operating system can increase the distribution of electricity supply. Budget allocations for research are available at Polban for internal lecturers, through this scheme, the research team plans to increase the power and efficiency of vortex turbines, the 2023 research output target, an efficiency of 30% from the previous research achievement in the 2022 study of 23.8%. Current studies are carried out with variations in discharge and the number of runner stages to increase the efficiency of vortex turbines. The experimental operation is based on SNI 8277:2016, variations in discharge from 7 to 10 l/s, and the application of one and two stage 630 turbine runners. In addition to variations in discharge, loading gradually until the runner rotation stops. The results of the experimental recording of the application of the one-level 630 runner, obtained the highest efficiency occurring at a discharge of 9 l/s with an efficiency of 37%, while the experimental application of the two-level runner 630 highest efficiency occurred at the application of a discharge of 8 l/s with an efficiency of 34%. The more the discharge is added the response efficiency does not always increase.

Abstract

Aluminium Alloy 6061 merupakan jenis Aluminium seri 6xxx yang memiliki sifat mekanik baik seperti ketahanan lelah, keuletan, ringan, mampu mesin, dan kemampuan bentuk yang tinggi. Akan tetapi, Aluminium Alloy memiliki kelemahan dari segi kekuatan yang lebih rendah jika dibandingkan dengan Aluminium seri 2xxx dan 7xxx. Sehingga dapat dioptimalkan, salah satunya melalui proses perlakuan panas T6. Proses ini dimulai dengan tahap solution treatment pada suhu 540°C selama 1 jam dan quenching menggunakan air. Selanjutnya, dilakukan artificial aging pada suhu 165°C dengan variasi waktu penahanan 1 jam, 3 jam, 5 jam, dan 7 jam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengamati perubahan kekuatan dan kekerasan Aluminium Alloy 6061 sebelum dan setelah age hardening. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kekuatan tarik dan kekerasan optimum tercapai pada waktu penahanan 5 jam, dengan kekuatan tarik 293,9 MPa dan kekerasan 109 HV. Namun, pada penahanan 7 jam, kekuatan tarik menurun menjadi 727,2 MPa dan kekerasan menjadi 70,2 HV.

Abstract

In Indonesia, especially West Java Province, there are quite a lot of rivers with quite high or mountainous elevation differences, generally, these rivers are used as tourist attractions which are located far from residential areas. To meet electricity needs, an alternative is to convert the river flow into electricity, either used for lighting or simply to charge electronic devices such as gadgets. One solution is to make small turbines that can be moved and can be produced in large quantities. Through this activity, a simulation analysis will be carried out on previously available designs so that existing weaknesses can be seen so that they can become evaluation material for subsequent designs. The stages of activities carried out include the study stage of simulations using CFD to determine deficiencies in inflow performance and also serve as material for the evaluation of subsequent designs. From the results of the simulation that has been carried out, the flow in the existing equipment has a decrease when it hits the cross-flow turbine blade so that the flow is not at its optimal speed, besides that the kinetic energy has not been completely converted into mechanical energy which can be seen in the velocity distribution picture, namely the flow still has a speed when it enters the outlet hole, this becomes a loss for the tool and becomes a note for evaluation for further tool design.

Abstract

PT XYZ merupakan suatu perusahaan joint venture, terdapat 2 (dua) macam proses produksi, yaitu Proses Casting dan Proses Machining, dalam proses produksi Casting, tersedia produk FC (Ferro Casting), FCD (Ferro Casting Ductile) dan dapat juga melaksanakan proses Machining, Assembling serta Metal Forming. Penghargaan yang telah diperoleh Cost Reduction Program, Good Delivery Perfomance, Good Cost Perfomance, dan Kategori Proses. Salah satu fokus terkait Cost Reduction Program bertujuan optimalisasi konsumsi dan biaya penggunaan tungsten, serta biaya tenaga kerja. Kegiatan merupakan kontribusi akademisi memberikan rekomendasi bagi PT.XYZ dalam rangka menyelesaikan masalah di Industri. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan optimalisasi proses carbon analyzer di PT.XYZ menggunakan pendekatan eksperimental dengan pemberlakuan volume tungsten pada setiap tahap eksperimen. Tahapan meliputi penyiapan alat, peralatan dan sampel, proses penimbangan dan pencampuran, proses treatment carbon analyzer, analisis hasil eksperimen dan kalkulasi reduksi biaya dan menyusun kesimpulan. Eksperimen yang diterapkan diantaranya volume 0, 0.75, 1.5 dan 1.8 Gram pada Treatmen Carbon Analyzer.  Hasil kegiatan diperoleh bahwa semakin banyak penggunaan volume tungsten pada proses carbon analyzer, dapat mengurangi waktu pengerjaan yang dibutuhkan oleh mesin carbon analyzer sebanyak 3 (tiga) detik. Penggunaan tungsten 0,75gram (½ dari standard) lebih efektif mampu menghemat biaya penggunaan tungsten (Cost Reduction). Selanjutnya terkait dengan penghematan, dengan menggunakan penerapan tungsten 0,75gram dapat menghemat biaya sebesar Rp 14.149.779/bulan dan penghematan biaya tenaga kerja sebesar 250.000/bulan.

Abstract

Finite element numerical simulation (FEA) has a function to analyze the design model and as a validation of the analysis results against manual calculations. FEA simulation uses specialized software to save time and cost. The purpose of the FEA simulation on this design model is to analyze the strength of the design model against a deformation. In this study, a strength test will be carried out on one of the sub-assemblies on the fishing equipment tensile and compressive testing machine, namely the fishing tools holder sub-assembly. The reason for the simulation is that the sub-assembly is directly related to compressive or tensile forces with relatively large units. The material used for this sub-assembly design is SS400 material or ASTM A36 Carbon Steel. The simulation process was carried out in 10 iterations using the curvature-based mesh method with mesh size settings of 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5.8, 5.6, 5.4, 5.2, and 5. The maximum stresses that occurred and reached convergence were at mesh sizes 5.8, 5.6, 5.4, and 5.2 in sequence with stress values of 137 MPa, 136 MPa, 142 MPa, and 135.7 MPa, respectively. The finite element analysis results show that the fishing tools holder design produces a maximum stress of 142 MPa at the converging area, with a factor of safety (FoS) of 1.8. Based on these simulations, the design of the fishing tools holder can be implemented on the Fishing Equipments Tensile Test and Press Test Machine.

Abstract

Perkembangan industri hidroponik di Indonesia berkembang seiring dengan meningkatnya kesadaran terhadap efisiensi lahan dan ketahanan pangan. Namun, cuaca iklim tropis yang berfluktuasi dapat dengan mudah mempengaruhi temperatur air nutrisi, khususnya untuk sistem yang disimpan di dalam green house. Berbagai studi terkait hidroponik, menunjukkan temperatur air nutrisi berpengaruh bagi pertumbuhan tanaman, penyerapan nutrisi, dan kualitas hasil panen, sehingga potensi ini patut dipertimbangkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan teknologi pasif yang ekonomis dan efektif saat diterapkan untuk mempertahankan temperatur larutan nutrien hidroponik yang sudah dikondisikan. Metode yang digunakan, yaitu dengan melakukan pengujian perbandingan kepada dua jenis material bejana High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) dan Polipropilen (PP) yang dikombinasikan dengan insulasi jenis Fiberglass, Poliuretan (PU), dan Glasswool. Pengujian dilakukan di dalam lingkungan green house selama lima hari. Didapatkan bejana HDPE memiliki koefisien konveksi air lebih rendah (186,82 W/m²·K) dibandingkan bejana PP (199,01 W/m²·K), sehingga lebih mampu menahan perubahan temperatur air dingin. Adapun, jenis insulasi yang mampu menjaga kenaikan temperatur air terbaik dibandingkan kondisi tanpa insulasi (maksimal 3,25°C) adalah Glasswool. Secara keseluruhan, kombinasi bejana HDPE - Glasswool memberikan performa terbaik dalam mempertahankan temperatur air dingin  dengan daya tolak panas hingga sebesar 43,91 Watt di saat temperatur lingkungan harian tertinggi.
