Abstract

Immunization prevents some dangerous diseases for children. Completeness of basic immunization is influenced by several factors. This study aims to determine the relationship between education, occupation, and maternal age with the completeness of basic immunization. This type of research is descriptive quantitative analytic with cross sectional method. This research was conducted in July 2013 at the Kuok-Riau Public Health Center. The number of samples is 75 and selected by non-probability sampling. Immunization status at the age of 30, 67.3% completed basic immunization and 32.7% did not complete basic immunization. For mothers aged 30 years, 30.4% completed basic immunization and 69.68% did not complete basic immunization. For mothers with education <9 years, 37.9% did not graduate and 62.1% graduated. For mothers with 12 years of education, 67.4% graduated and 32.6% did not graduate. For working mothers, 68.3% completed and 31.7% did not. Housewives, 41.2% completed and 58.8% did not. The results of correlation analysis with Chi-Square test obtained p-value 0.005 (p<0.05), education with immunization, p-value 0.017 (p<0.05), work status with immunization, p-value 0.022 (p<0 ,05). There is a relationship between maternal educational status, maternal employment status, and maternal age with immunization status.

Abstract

Indonesia has the second-highest prevalence of low birth weight (LBW) babies in ASEAN countries. Various factors contribute to this high incidence. This study examined the association between gestational weight gain (GWG), pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI), and antenatal care (ANC) visits frequency towards LBW in a region of Indonesia with a high prevalence of LBW. This is an analytical observational study using cross-sectional design with utilizing medical records data, conducted in June-August 2022. We analyzed 78 medical records of pregnant women who gave term-singleton birth. Main independent variables were gestational weight gain, pre-pregnancy BMI, and ANC frequency. Data analysis was performed using statistical package program, including descriptive statistics, bivariate and multivariate analyses to explore associations between those factors and LBW occurrence. The mean of infant birth weight was 3115.4± 465.2 grams. Low birth weight proportion was 11.5%. More than 90% of subjects follow frequency of ANC visits for K1 and K4, but only a third of participants meet K6 ANC visit recommendation. Approximately half of the subjects (48.7%) had inadequate GWG. Bivariate analysis revealed a strong association between insufficient GWG and LBW (OR = 10.4, 95% CI = 1.233–87.74, p=0.013). However, pre-pregnancy BMI and ANC frequency showed no association with LBW. Inadequate gestational weight gain is significantly linked to an elevated risk of LBW. Emphasizing the appropriate quantity of ANC visits and regular monitoring of maternal weight gain throughout pregnancy is crucial to mitigate the risk of LBW.

Abstract

Metabolic syndrome is one of the major global health problems. Hypertension and hypercholesterolemia are indicators in the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome. However, the analysis of the relationship between risk factors for hypercholesterolemia in the hypertensive population needs further study. This study aims to analyze the risk factors for hypercholesterolemia in hypertensive patients. This cross-sectional study was conducted at Depok 2 Community Healthcare Center with a focus on adult hypertensive patients. The results of blood pressure measurements, total cholesterol examinations, and participant characteristics were then analyzed using the Chi-Square test. 117 hypertensive patients were analyzed in this study with the majority being women (60.7%), elderly (70.1%), and household-based occupancy (70.1%). The majority of participants were diagnosed with grade I hypertension (53.8%) and hypercholesterolemia (59%). Women have higher risk of developing hypercholesterolemia than men (OR 3.38 (95% CI 1.555 – 7.361); p = 0.002), and non-household based occupancy were protective factor from hypercholesterolemia (OR 0.327 (95% CI 0.144 – 0.742); p = 0.008). Gender and occupation are risk factors for hypercholesterolemia in the hypertensive population. Education at the household level is needed for early detection of the risk of metabolic syndrome in the general population.

Abstract

Resistant hypertension (RH) is a critical concern due to persistent uncontrolled blood pressure despite multiple medications, and its association with severe cardiovascular and renal complications. This narrative review aims to critically analyze existing research on acupuncture as an adjunctive treatment for RH, synthesizing evidence on its mechanisms and effects on clinical outcomes like blood pressure control and quality of life. A literature search was conducted from April to May 2025 across Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect, using variations of keywords combination: resistant hypertension, acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, management, antihypertension, blood pressure. We found there is limited evidence for acupuncture application for RH management, even application for hypertension has been widely studied. Acupuncture is safety for hypertension management and has limited adverse event. In conclusion, acupuncture is a promising, generally safe complementary treatment for resistant hypertension, offering benefits beyond blood pressure reduction and improving quality of life, particularly for patients facing medication challenges. However, further rigorous, standardized research is needed to fully establish its role alongside conventional therapies.

Abstract

Cortisol is one of the most commonly used stress biomarkers. Stress and depression are increasing in young people, especially among college students, especially medical students. Physical activity has been recommended for stress and depression relief, but its effect on cortisol has not been confirmed. This study aims to analyze cortisol measurements for stress, depression, their physical activity among medical student. This literature search utilized PubMed and Google Scholar, combining the keywords "cortisol", "stress", “depression”, “physical activity”, and "medical student" in publications from 2010 to 2025. Ten (10) studies that met our criteria. Most studies use saliva cortisol measurement to assess stress conditions. Our findings suggest cortisol as a measure of stress in medical students, but its contribution to the development of stress and depression remains unclear. There is no correlation between physical activity and cortisol in stress condition. Cortisol measurements can provide an objective test and reflect stress in medical students, but they do not adequately assess acute and stress-related cortisol release. Further studies are needed to assess the effectiveness of cortisol measurements.
