Abstract

Mathematical literacy related to problem-solving can be measured through PISA or PISA-like, which requires mathematical logic intelligence. Differences in levels of mathematical logical intelligence can result in varying levels of students' mathematical literacy. Therefore, the objective of this study is to describe the mathematical literacy of students based on the level of mathematical logic intelligence when it comes to solving PISA-like problems in quantity content. This study used a descriptive-qualitative approach. Purposive sampling was applied to select three students representing low, medium, and high levels of mathematical logical intelligence. The instruments used were a mathematical logic intelligence test, a PISA-like test, and interview guidance. Data reduction, data display, and making conclusions were data analysis techniques used in this study. The results indicate that a student with high mathematical logical intelligence met all indicators of mathematical literacy. A student with medium mathematical logical intelligence met only the 'formulate' indicator, while a student with low mathematical logical intelligence did not meet any indicators. Teachers can utilize the study's findings to build learning experiences that can improve mathematical literacy of students in solving both PISA and PISA-like problems based on their level of mathematical logic intelligence.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the numeracy of junior high school students of climber, camper, and quitter types in solving AKM equivalent problems. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The instruments in this study consisted of the main instrument, namely the researcher, and supporting instruments, namely the ARP test, math ability test, AKM equivalent problems, and interview guidelines. This research was conducted at SMPN 32 Surabaya in class VIII-E, and then 3 main subjects representing adversity quotient types were selected. The results of this study found that climber-type students successfully fulfill all numeracy indicators. At the comprehension level, they can analyze information and then represent the data in mathematical form. At the application level, one can design strategies by applying mathematical concepts to solve problems. In addition, at the reasoning level, climber-type students are able to interpret results, draw logical conclusions, and provide strong reasons to support their answers. Meanwhile, camper-type students at the comprehension level can identify information and present it in mathematical form. At the application level, camper-type students can design strategies and apply mathematical concepts. However, at the reasoning level, camper students have not been able to interpret the results of the relationship of information in the problem. Quitter-type students cannot reach higher cognitive levels, especially at the application and reasoning stages. Thus, quitter-type students can only reach the comprehension level, which means understanding information and representing data.

Abstract

Mathematics achievement of students in Indonesia is still lower than students in other countries. It is because the creative ability of students is still low. This study aimed to analyze students' creative problem-solving abilities after using realistic math comics videos. This type of research is quantitative research. A quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest comparison design was conducted in this study. The population of this study were all seventh-grade students of SMP, which consisted of four parallel classes. The sample was selected using a random sampling technique so that there were two classes of research samples, namely the control class sample and the experimental class sample. This study used a pretest and posttest instrument for creative problem-solving abilities. In this study, the pretest and posttest score data were normally distributed and homogeneous. Based on the research data analysis using the independent sample t-test, it was concluded that there were differences in the creative problem-solving abilities of students who were taught using real math comics videos with groups of students who were taught not to use fundamental math comics videos. So, it can be concluded that the creative problem-solving abilities of students who are taught using real math comic videos are better than those who are not taught using real math comic videos.

Abstract

In solving problems, students use unique methods according to their mathematical thinking. Their success in completing assignments is influenced by self-efficacy. This research aims to describe students' mathematical thinking in solving social arithmetic problems in terms of high, medium, and low self-efficacy. This descriptive qualitative research involved eighth-grade students selected based on self-efficacy questionnaires, high and equivalent math ability tests, and good communication skills for interviews. Data collection methods included self-efficacy questionnaires, math ability tests, problem-solving tasks, and interviews. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Results show that in the entry phase at the specialization stage, students with high, medium, and low self-efficacy identify all available information, including what is known and what is asked in the question. They then identify the problem and develop and test potential strategies to solve it. In the attack phase at the conjecturing stage, they propose hypotheses, correct incorrect ones until accurate, and test them to solve the problem. At the justification stage, they provide logical reasons for their hypotheses and feel confident that each step taken is correct. In the review phase at the generalization stage, student with high self-efficacy does not check the compatibility of her answers with the questions or solving steps, whereas students with medium and low self-efficacy do it completely. Additionally, does all of student report difficulties when calculating large discounts.
