Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan jenis-jenis strategi kesopanan yang digunakan oleh guru dan siswa di dalam interaksi kelas, bagaimana strategi tersebut diwujudkan dalam tindakan dalam interaksi kelas dan fungsi pedagogik dari strategi kesopanan. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah guru dan siswa yang dimana menggunakan strategi kesopanan sebanyak dua belas siswa dan satu guru dalam proses belajar dan mengajar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif. Data yang dikmpulkan mealui observasi dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi yang digunakan ialah: 1) bald on record sebagai dominan dalam strategi kesopnan karena memiliki hubungan yang dekat antara guru dan siswa. 2) Siswa menggunakan kesopanan positif karena mereka bertemu guru untuk pertama kalinya guru menunjukkan rasa hormat kepada guru. 3) Kesopanan negatif digunakan oleh siswa kelas sebelas yang memiliki jarak sosial atau saat mereka canggung. 4) Off record digunakan oleh siswa untuk berbicara dengan guru saat makna ucapan disampaikan secara implisit Ada empat fungsi pedagogik dalam strategi kesopanan yaitu memberikan jarak antar guru dan siswa, suasana di dalam kelas, mengurangi ketegangan siswa, dan membuat interaksi social antara guru dan siswa.Kata Kunci : strategi kesopanan, kelas interaksi, dan funsi pedagogik This study aimed to explain the types of politeness strategy used by the teacher-students in classroom interaction, how the politeness strategies realized in classroom interaction and the pedagogical function of politeness strategies. The subject of this study was as many as twelve students and one teacher who used in politeness strategies. This study was qualitative study. The data were collected through observation and interview. The findings of the study showed the followings: 1) Bald on record became dominant types of politeness strategies and it was close enough to their teacher to talk baldly in teaching and learning process. 2) The students used positive politeness because they met the teacher for the first time the teacher to show the respect to the teacher. 3) Negative politeness was used by the eleventh grade students that had some social distance or when they were awkward. 4) Off record strategy was used by the students to talk to the teacher when the meaning of the utterances was told implicitly. There were four pedagogical functions of politeness strategies, namely the social distance between teacher-students, maintaining the general atmosphere of teaching and learning process, reducing stress (tension reduction), and creating teacher-students social interaction.keyword : Politeness strategy, classroom interaction, and pedagogical function

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan procedure dalam upacara pernikahan Ngidih di Desa Lokapaksa, (2) menyelidiki jenis komunikasi strategi yang digunakan oleh perwakilan dari penganten laki-laki, perwakilan dari penganten wanita dan Prajuru dalam upacara pernikahan Ngidih di Desa Lokapaksa (3) menemukan alasan dari prajuru tentang tradisi upacara pernikahan di Desa Lokapaksa. Penelitian ini dirancang dalam bentuk penelitian kualitatif. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah empat orang yang terlibat dalam proses pernikahan Ngidih di Desa Lokapaksa. Ada tiga prosedur upacara pernikahan Ngidih di Desa Lokapaksa yaitu: Mesadok bertemu orang tua pengantin laki-laki dan orang tua mempelai wanita di rumah pengantin wanita, Memadik / Ngidih melamar pengantin wanita kerumah pengantin pria dan Melaku adalah prosedur terakhir upacara pernikahan Ngidih dan ada tiga langkah yaitu: pebiayakala, natab, dan mepamit. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ada enam jenis strategi komunikas yaitu, approximation, circumlocution,language switching,appeal for assistance, use of nonlingustic and use of fillers.Kata Kunci : Komunikasi strategi, upacara pernikahan Ngidih. This study aimed at (1) describing the procedures in Ngidih wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village; (2) investigating the types of communication strategies used by groom’s delegation, bride’s delegation, the head of village and prajuru in Ngidih wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village; and (3) finding tradition of wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village. This study was designed in the form of qualitative research. The subjects of this study were ten people who were involved Ngidih wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village. there were three procedures of Ngidih wedding ceremony in Lokapaksa village which were included: Mesadok the meeting of the groom’s parents and the bride’s parents at the bride’s house, Memadik/Ngidih propose the bride to the groom’s house and Melaku was the last procedure of Ngidih wedding ceremony and there were three steps namely: pebiayakala, natab, and mepamit. The results of the analysis show that there were six types of communication strategies namely, approximation, circumlocution, language switching, appeal for assistance, use of nonlinguistic, and use of fillers. keyword : Communication strategies, Ngidih wedding ceremony.

Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif mengenai analisis morfologi dialek Bali yang digunakan oleh warga desa Pemuteran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan prefiks infleksi dan akhiran dan awalan dan akhiran derivatif dalam dialek Pemuteran. Ada tiga domain yang dipilih. Yang pertama adalah keluarga, kedua adalah pertemanan dan yang ketiga adalah lingkungan sekitar. Data dikumpulkan berdasarkan tiga teknik, yaitu teknik observasi, teknik perekaman, dan teknik wawancara (listening and noting). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada 2 jenis awalan {ma-} dan {jenis} dan akhiran akhir {-ang} yang termasuk morfem derivatif. Selain itu, ada 2 macam awalan dalam dialek Pemuteran yaitu awalan {n-}, {dan} dan {a-} dan ada 4 macam sufiks {-ne}, {-in}, {- an}, dan { -e} yang termasuk morfem infleksi. Apalagi ada 4 item proses singkatan yang ditemukan dalam dialek Pemuteran.Kata Kunci : Proses morfologi, Dialek Bali, Pemuteran This is a qualitative research concerning the morphological analysis of Balinese dialect used by Pemuteran villagers. The study aimed at describing inflectional prefix and suffix and derivational prefix and suffix in Pemuteran dialect. There were three domains chosen. The first was family, second was friendship and third was neighborhood. The data were collected based on three techniques, namely: observation, recording technique, and interview (listening and noting) technique. The results of the study show that there were 2 kinds of prefix {ma-} and {pe-} and 1 kind of suffix {-ang} which belong to derivational morpheme. Besides, there were 2 kinds prefix in Pemuteran dialect namely prefix {n-}, {me-} and {a-} and there were 4 kinds of suffix {-ne}, {-in},{-an}, and {-e} which belong to inflectional morpheme. Moreover, there were 4 item of abbreviation processes found in Pemuteran dialect.keyword : Morphological process, Balinese Dialect, Pemuteran Villagers.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab dua pertanyaan, yaitu; (1) Tipe-tipe Politeness Strategy apa saja yang digunakan oleh siswa kelas 10 dan guru bahasa Inggris di SMK Negeri Bali Mandara (Bali Academy) tahun ajaran 2018/2019 dan (2) Apa saja tujuan dari penggunaan Politeness Strategy oleh siswa kelas 10 dan guru Bahasa Inggris SMK Negeri Bali Mandara (Bali Academy) tahun ajaran 2018/2019. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain deskriptif kualitatif di mana participant penelitian adalah siswa kelas 10 dan guru bahasa Inggris SMK Negeri Bali Mandara (Bali Academy) tahun ajaran 2018/2019. Jumlah total siswa kelas 10 adalah 129 orang. Sedangkan, SMK Negeri Bali Mandara (Bali Academy) hanya memiliki sejumlah 1 orang guru Bahasa Inggris yang mengampu seluruh kelas dari semua angkatan SMK Negeri Bali Mandara (Bali Academy) di tahun ajaran 2018/2019. Di dalam proses pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan rekaman suara, pertanyaan kuisioner, interview dan lembar observasi sebagai instrumen. Hasil dari analisis menunjukkan bahwa adanya lima buah strategi yang ditemukan di dalam penelitian ini, yaitu Bald on-Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness, Off-Record, dan Don’t do FTA. Strategi tersebut digunakan untuk beberapa tujuan, seperti: untuk menjelaskan keluhan dengan lembut, menunjukkan hubungan yang dekat, menunjukkan kemarahan dan membuat pendengar memahami apa yang dirasakan pembicara, menunjukkan minat mereka atau tidak dalam pelajaran dan menunjukkan kepuasan mereka terhadap jawabannya.Kata Kunci : Politeness Strategy, jenis, tujuan This study aimed at answering two questions; (1) What types of politeness strategy are used by the X grade students and the English teacher of SMK Negeri Bali Mandara (Bali Academy) academic year 2018/2019 and (2) What are the purposes of politeness strategy used by the X grade students and the English Teacher of SMK Negeri Bali Mandara (Bali Academy) academic year 2018/2019. The research used descriptive qualitative design. The subjects of study were the X grade students and the English teacher of SMK Negeri Bali Mandara (Bali Academy) academic year 2018/2019. In collecting data, the researcher used voice recording, questionnaire items, interview and observation sheet as the instruments. The analysis result showed that there were five strategies found in this study, which are Bald on-Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness, Off-Record, and Don’t do FTA. Those strategies were used for some purposes, namely (1) to show their close relationship (2) to show their interest towards the lesson, (3) they wanted to cheer up the class, (4) to show their anger and made the hearer understood what their feeling was and (5) to show that they are interested or not with the lesson.keyword : Politeness Strategy, types, purposes

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan langkah dari penerapan strategi debat di dalam kelas dan untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa terhadap penggunaan strategi debat di dalam kelas oleh guru bahasa inggris. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 30 orang siswa dari XI MIA 2 dan guru bahasa inggris di SMAN 1 Singaraja. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam lima pertemuan, tiga pertemuan digunakan untuk mengamati strategi debat di dalam kelas, dua pertemuan digunakan untuk menyebarkan kuesioner kepada siswa dan melakukan wawancara kepada guru bahasa inggris dan siswa. Data diperoleh dengan 4 jenis instrumen: lembar observasi, rekaman video, wawancara, dan kuesioner. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa langkah dari strategi debat yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa inggris di SMAN 1 Singaraja mengadopsi teori dari Vargo (2012). Hasil ini diperoleh dari pengamatan dan wawancara kepada guru bahasa inggris. Hasil dari kuesioner dan wawancara kepada siswa menunjukkan bahwa: 1) 60% murid setuju bahwa mereka menyukai penggunaan strategi debat karena topik dalam debat. 2) 87% siswa setuju bahwa mereka menyukai strategi debat karena anggota atau peserta debat lainnya. 3) 90% siswa setuju bahwa mereka menyukai strategi debat karena juri dalam debat. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa strategi debat dapat diterapkan di SMAN 1 Singaraja dengan mengadopsi teori dari Vargo (2012) dan siswa di SMAN 1 Singaraja khususnya kelas XI MIA 2 menyukai penggunaan strategi debat dalam pembelajaran di kelas.Kata Kunci : Kata kunci: Strategi Debat, keterampilan berbicara This study aimed at describing the steps of implementing debating strategy and reveal students’ perception toward the use of debating strategy in classroom by English teacher while teaching speaking in EFL classes. The subject of this research were 30 eleventh grade students of MIA 2 in SMAN 1 Singaraja and an English teacher. This study was conducted in 5 meetings, three meetings were used to observe the debating strategy. Two meetings were used to spread questionnaire and conduct interview with the teacher and the students. The data were obtained by using 4 kinds of instruments: an observation sheet, video recorder, an interview guide, and questionnaire. The result of this study showed that the step of debating strategy used by the teacher in SMAN 1 Singaraja is adopting the theory from Vargo (2012). This result revealed by conducting observation and interviewing the teacher. The result from the questionnaire and interview to the students showed that: 1) 60% students agree that they like the use of debating strategy in classroom because of the topic in debate. 2) 87% of students agree that they like the use of debating strategy because of the debater. 3) 90% of students agree that they like the use of debating strategy because of the judge. It can be concluded that debating strategy is applicable in SMAN 1 Singaraja by adopting theory of step in debating strategy from Vargo (2012) and the students especially in XI MIA 2 SMAN 1 Singaraja like the use of debating strategy for teaching and learning in classroom. keyword : Keywords: debating strategy, speaking

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mempelajari hesitation phenomena (fenomena keragu-raguan) yang digunakan oleh guru sekolah menengah saat mengajar di sekolah internasional, Badung. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (1) mengidentifikasi tipe-tipe hesitation yang digunakan guru saat mengajar; (2) mengetahui tipe mana yang paling sering muncul; dan (3) kenapa tipe tersebut yang paling sering muncul saat guru mengajar. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah tiga guru yang merupakan penutur asli bahasa Inggris (English Native Speaker) dan menggunakan bahasa Inggris dalam mengajar. Obyek daari penelitian ini adalah hesitation yang digunakan oleh guru saat mengajar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang menggunakan metode observasi dan interview dalam mengumpulkan data. Data dianalisis menggunakan teori yang dikemukakan oleh Lacey and Luff (2009) yang terdiri dari 5 tahap yaitu Transcription, Organizing the Data, Familiarization, Coding, dan Themes. Berdasarkan teori hesitation yang dikemukakan oleh Rose (2013), terdapat enam tipe hesitation yang mucul yaitu: Silent Pause (11,4%), Filled Pause (52.1%), False Start (5.9%), Repair (4.2%), Repeat (12.7%), dan Lengthening (13.6%). Tipe hesitation yang paling sering muncul adalah Filled Pause. Para guru paling sering menggunakan Filled Pause karena Filled Pause dapat menghubungkan kalimat yang satu dengan yang lainnya saat mereka ragu, membuat guru terdengar lebih profesional dan para murid juga tidak akan sadar jika guru ragu-ragu berbicara.Kata Kunci : guru sekolah menengah, hesitation, ucapan This research studied about hesitation phenomena occurred in secondary school teachers’ speech at an international school in Badung. The aims of this research were (1) to identify the types of hesitation occurred in the teachers’ speech; (2) to know which type of hesitation that mostly occurred; and (3) to know the reasons why such hesitation occurred. The subjects of the study were three teachers who taught in secondary school. They were English native speakers and used English in teaching the students. The object of the study was the hesitation used by the teacher while teaching the students. The research was a descriptive qualitative research and the data were collected by using observation method and interview method. The data were analyzed by using data analysis proposed by Lacey and Luff (2009) which consisted of five steps: Transcription, Organizing the Data, Familiarization, Coding, and Themes. According to the theory of hesitation proposed by Rose (2013), six types of hesitation were occurred in the teachers’ speech: Silent Pause (11,4%), Filled Pause (52.1%), False Start (5.9%), Repair (4.2%), Repeat (12.7%), and Lengthening (13.6%). The most dominant one was Filled Pause. Filled pause was used frequently because it could connect the teacher’s previous sentence with their following sentence, it was also more professional when using filled pause and the student would not notice or realize that the teacher hesitated.keyword : hesitation, secondary school teacher, speech

Abstract

MORPHOLOGICAL PROCESS IN KEI DIALECT A DESCRITIVE STUDY BY SERVASIUS TAWURUTUBUN 1212021132 ABSTRACT Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis proses morfologis, awalan dan akhiran, serta bagaimana imbuhan dalam membangun kata-kata dan apa jenis makna afiksasi yang terjadi dalam Dialek Kei. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Dua sampel informan dari Dialek Kei dipilih berdasarkan kriteria yang ditetapkan. Data dikumpulkan berdasarkan dua teknik, yaitu: observasi,mendengarkan, mencatat dan teknik wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada tiga belas kata awalan, dan sepuluh akhiran yang ada di Kei Dialect. Awalannya adalah {naf-}, {nef-}, {nar-}, {ner}, {ha-}, {nga-} {kaf}, {ma-}, {mar-}, {var-}, {nam-} {nat-} {a-} dan Sufiks adalah {-n}, {-an}, {- ang}, {-am}, {im-} {-um], {-ar}, {-he} , {-ir}, {-ab}. Ada enam jenis reduplikasi seperti reduplikasi dasar, reduplikasi variatif dan reduplikasi awalan, reduplikasi sufiks, reduplikasi parsial, dan reduplikasi kuasi dan semuanya ada dalam dialek Kei. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. Two informant samples of Kei Dialect were chosen based on set criteria. The data were collected based on two techniques, namely: observation,{listening, noting} and interview technique. The results of the study show that there are tweleve prefixes, and ten suffixes which existed in Kei Dialect. The prefixes are {naf-}, {nef-}, {nar-}, {ner}, {ha-}, {nga-} {kaf}, {ma-}, {mar-}, {var-}, {nam-} {nat-} and The suffixes are {-n}, {-an},{-ang}, {-am}, {im-} {-um], {-ar}, {-he}, {-ir}, {-ab}. Kata Kunci : Kata Kunci: Affiksasi,Morfologi,Kata kata rduplicative,Kei Dialects MORPHOLOGICAL PROCESS IN KEI DIALECT A DESCRITIVE STUDY BY SERVASIUS TAWURUTUBUN 1212021132 ABSTRACT This study aimed at describing kinds of morphological process, prefixes and suffixes ,and how affixes construct the words and what kinds of affixation meaning occur in Kei Dialect. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. Two informant samples of Kei Dialect were chosen based on set criteria. The data were collected based on two techniques, namely: observation,{listening, noting} and interview technique. The results of the study show that there are tweleve prefixes, and ten suffixes which existed in Kei Dialect. The prefixes are {naf-}, {nef-}, {nar-}, {ner}, {ha-}, {nga-} {kaf}, {ma-}, {mar-}, {var-}, {nam-} {nat-} and The suffixes are {-n}, {-an},{-ang}, {-am}, {im-} {-um], {-ar}, {-he}, {-ir}, {-ab}. There were six kinds of reduplication such as base reduplication, variative reduplication and prefix reduplication, suffix reduplication, partial reduplication and quasi reduplication and all of them existed in Kei dialect. . keyword : Keyword: Affixation, Morpholology, reduplicative words,Kei Dialects

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi tipe-tipe strategi kesopanan dan mendeskripsikan alasan penggunaan strategi kesopanan yang digunakan oleh pedagang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 5 pedagang. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Tanah Lot Tabanan Bali. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi dan wawancara. Analisis data menggunakan Interactive Data Analysis Model terdiri dari pengumpulan data, data reduksi, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan dan verifikasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa tiga dari empat strategi kesopanan yang muncul ketika pedagang berkomunikasi dengan orang asing sebagai pembeli. Strategi yang sering muncul adalah Bald on Record (53.62%) diikuti oleh Positive Politeness (37.68%), Negative Politeness (7.25%), dan tidak ada munculnya Off Record. Alasan utama pedagang menggunakan strategi kesopanan adalah untuk mendapatkan banyak pembeli dan membuat pembeli merasa nyaman serta dihargai.Kata Kunci : strategi kesopanan, pedagang, tanah lot, pembeli The purpose of this study was to identify the types of politeness and describe the reason the use of politeness strategies used by shopkeepers. This study was a descriptive qualitative. The subjects were 5 shopkeepers. This study was taken place in Tanah Lot Tabanan Bali. The data were collected through observation and interview. The data were analyzed by using Interactive Data Analysis Model consisting of data collection, data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion and verification. The result of this study shows that three of four politeness strategies is appears when the shopkeepers talk with the foreigners as their buyer. The most appeared strategies is Bald on Record (53.62%) followed by Positive Politeness (37.68%), Negative Politeness (7.25%), and inexistence of Off Record. Abstract

The Covid-19 outbreak has "forced" face-to-face teaching and learning to be entirely online. This situation also affects prospective EFL teachers in conducting teaching practicums. This study aims to analyze prospective EFL teachers using code-switching in online discussions through WhatsApp group chats. Code-switching is a popular language feature commonly used in communication. Furthermore, this research aims to identify the types of code-switching according to Poplack's theory and to find out the code-switching function based on Sert's theory. This type of research is qualitative. The subjects of this study were six prospective EFL teachers and their students. Primary data was collected from online discussions of student teachers through their WhatsApp chat groups, and then the discussions were transcribed into transcripts. The technique used to analyze the data is descriptive qualitative and quantitative analysis. The first study's results in terms of types of code-switching revealed that all participants practiced code-switching in online teaching and learning through WhatsApp group chats. The discussion provides three types of code-switching based on Poplack's theory: tag-switching, inter-sentential switching, and intra-sentential switching. Furthermore, tag switching is often used in online discussions.
