Abstract

This study aims to determine the contribution of the intensity of participation in psychoeducational group guidance to the academic emotions of students in Jember Islamic boarding schools. Academic emotions play an important role in determining the quality of students' learning, while psychoeducational group guidance provides space for students to recognize, express, and manage their emotions positively in the context of learning. This study uses a quantitative approach with a simple linear regression design. The population in this study were students who actively participated in group guidance activities in several Islamic boarding schools in Jember, with samples selected purposively. The instruments used were a questionnaire on the intensity of participation and an academic emotion scale that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results of the regression analysis showed that the intensity of participation in psychoeducational group guidance contributed significantly to students' academic emotions (p <0.05), with a contribution of 30% (R² = 0.30). This finding indicates that the more intense the participation of students in group guidance activities, the more positive the academic emotions they have. This study recommends that Islamic boarding schools integrate psychoeducational programs more systematically in student guidance activities.

Abstract

Academic burnout among final-year university students is a critical issue, particularly for those balancing thesis completion with part-time employment and personal challenges. This study explores the role of existential-humanistic counseling in alleviating academic burnout experienced by students in the Guidance and Counseling Program at Universitas PGRI Argopuro Jember. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation involving ten final-year students showing symptoms of burnout. Thematic analysis revealed three key themes: awareness of burnout, the impact of burnout on mental and academic well-being, and coping strategies. Findings showed that students experienced emotional exhaustion, motivation decline, and behavioral changes such as procrastination and social withdrawal. Coping mechanisms ranged from mindfulness and cognitive reframing to social engagement and creative activities. Existential-humanistic counseling was found to support students by fostering self-awareness, emotional resilience, and personal meaning, offering a deeper and culturally relevant alternative to conventional behavioral models. The study underscores the need for integrative counseling practices that address existential dimensions of student crises. It contributes to educational psychology and counseling practice by demonstrating how personal responsibility and meaning-making can transform burnout into an opportunity for growth. Future research should include diverse academic contexts and incorporate mixed-method designs to enhance generalizability and rigor.

Abstract

Career selection is a complex process that requires a deep understanding of interests, talents, personal values, and the realities of the job market. Among vocational high school (SMK) students, the challenges in career decision-making remain high, primarily due to low self-awareness and a lack of entrepreneurial orientation. This study aims to implement the edupreneurial approach in the development of Ginzberg's theory, particularly in the tentative stage, to optimize students' career decision-making abilities. The method used is the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) to design a career guidance module that integrates entrepreneurial values. After validity testing, the module was applied to 8 students in the eleventh grade at SMKS Muhammadiyah Jember. The results indicate that the integration of Ginzberg's theory and the edupreneurial approach enhances self-awareness, creativity, and students' readiness to determine their career paths. Quantitative analysis using the Paired Sample T-Test shows a significant improvement from an average pre-test score of 140.50 to a post-test score of 159.25 (p < 0.05). Although the correlation between the pre-test and post-test is low (0.189), the significant difference indicates a positive impact of the module. Qualitative analysis reveals that students showed a high interest in the module's content and felt more confident in making career decisions. Overall, this module is effective in enhancing students' career decision-making abilities and creating a positive learning environment. This study recommends that career guidance in vocational schools adapt curricula and counseling services that are more responsive to the dynamics of entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Adolescents from broken home families are vulnerable to psychological well-being disturbances, such as feelings of worthlessness, difficulties in managing emotions, and impaired social relationships. This condition requires appropriate intervention to help individuals achieve emotional balance and improve their social adaptation. This study aims to develop and examine the effectiveness of a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) module in enhancing the psychological well-being of adolescents from broken home families within the madrasah educational environment. The research approach used was Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, focusing on the development of an instructional product in the form of a counseling service module. The research subjects consisted of six adolescents who were identified as victims of broken home families based on the results of an initial assessment. The Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) module was developed through the stages of planning, preparation, expert validation, and limited trial. The results of the study show that the implementation of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) module significantly improves aspects of self-awareness, emotional regulation, interpersonal relationships, and the ability to cope with stress. In conclusion, the developed Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) module proves to be effective and feasible as an intervention tool to enhance the psychological well-being of adolescents from broken home families. This module is expected to serve as a practical alternative for psychological support within the madrasah educational environment.

Abstract

Verbal bullying is a pervasive issue in educational settings, characterized by insults, harsh language, and derogatory comments that can have severe psychological and emotional impacts on students. This study aimed to develop a culturally relevant intervention model that integrates the values of the Petik Laut tradition with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to reduce verbal bullying at MTS Al Haromain, Mojosari, Puger. The research utilized a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model, which included the identification of bullying prevalence, module development, expert validation, and pilot testing with 53 students (Sa et al., 2020). The findings revealed that the Petik Laut tradition, emphasizing mutual respect, community solidarity, and environmental stewardship, significantly reduced verbal bullying and enhanced students' social resilience, fostering positive behavioral changes. This study contributes to the field of educational psychology by demonstrating the effectiveness of integrating local cultural values into structured educational interventions, offering a novel approach to bullying prevention that aligns with both cultural sustainability and contemporary educational goals. The results underscore the importance of culturally responsive education and highlight the potential for broader application in diverse educational contexts. Future research should explore the long-term impacts of this approach on student outcomes, including academic achievement, social well-being, and community engagement.

Abstract

This study addresses the persistent problem of adolescent self-doubt in school settings and the need for culturally responsive, evidence-informed interventions; in Indonesia, the values embedded in Jaipong dance offer a locally meaningful pathway to nurture confidence and courage. The objective was to design, validate, and pilot a counseling–learning module grounded in Jaipong philosophical values to reduce self-doubt among Grade-9 boarding students at SMP ADH DHUHA Jember. Using an R&D framework with the ADDIE model, we conducted needs analysis, blueprinting, iterative development, expert validation (content, language, design, practitioner usability; 5-point scale), and a small pre–post pilot with total sampling of the cohort. Data sources included observations, semi-structured interviews, student questionnaires (Likert 1–5), and expert rating sheets; analyses comprised percentage feasibility (Akbar–Sriwiyana thresholds), Aiken’s V/CVI for content validity, Cronbach’s alpha for reliability, paired t-tests/Wilcoxon (effect sizes), and thematic analysis with triangulation and member checking. Experts judged the module feasible to very feasible, reliability indices were acceptable, and validity indices met conventional cutoffs; the pilot suggested a downward trend in self-doubt and positive acceptability, while acknowledging small-sample limitations. We conclude that the module is context-appropriate, culturally resonant, and preliminarily effective, warranting a larger controlled evaluation. Practically, the study delivers a replicable procedure for schools to co-develop arts-informed counseling modules. Future work should expand sample size, include control groups, extend follow-up, and test mediators/moderators (e.g., confidence, courage, engagement).

Abstract

Identity confusion among university-age students is linked to anxiety, motivational decline, and reduced academic responsibility. In pesantren contexts, mahasantri must reconcile academic rigor with spiritual–communal norms, making culturally grounded interventions necessary. Objective: To develop and validate a counselor-ready module that uses the East Javanese folk performance Jaran Bodhag to strengthen identity clarification (discipline, resilience, simplicity, responsibility) among mahasantri at PPA Ibnu Katsir Putri, Jember. Methods: A Research & Development design following ADDIE guided needs analysis, co-design, expert content validation (CVI/Aiken’s V framework), prototype refinement, and a small-scale field tryout. Participants were 25 female mahasantri selected purposively. Data sources included expert ratings, fidelity checklists, learner acceptability questionnaires, and brief reflections. Results: Expert appraisal yielded an overall validity score of 80%, classifying the product as “valid/feasible with minor revision.” The tryout showed high acceptability and contextual fit; fidelity logs indicated deliverability within regular guidance sessions. Priority revisions were to (a) sharpen the service-plan sequencing and (b) add a concise glossary. Conclusion: A culturally grounded, arts-integrated module is feasible and acceptable for addressing identity-crisis indicators among mahasantri and is ready for broader piloting. Usefulness: The product offers a practical, counselor-facing package aligned with school guidance routines, enhancing cultural resonance and implementation fidelity. Suggestions: Future studies should employ multi-expert CVI/CR procedures, report item-level indices, use validated pre–post measures with comparator groups, document implementation fidelity systematically, and examine mediators (e.g., self-efficacy) across diverse pesantren settings.
