Abstract

Ethnosemiotics studies how meaning is interpreted within a culture. The purpose of this study is to characterise the use of ethnosemiotic theories and identify their problematic elements. A review of the literature is part of this research process. This study examines five publications that address ethnoemiotics. Reputable publications, national journals, international seminar proceedings, and dissertation research have all published the five chosen articles. The findings demonstrate that ethnosemiotics is not only regarded as a single, cohesive theory but also that some people employ it as a methodology. In addition, a number of studies view ethnosemiotics as a theory that emerges from the fusion of semiotic theory with other theories including ethnolinguistics, ethnography, and ethnology.

Abstract

This literature review study is based on empirical phenomena that show that the phenomenon of language impoliteness across cultures is increasingly worrying. The implications of the phenomenon of language impoliteness often trigger various social problems among cross-cultural communities. Various forms of language impoliteness are often found, including violating the maxims of politeness and engaging in verbal violence, which, of course, can cause fatal problems. This literature review research aims to describe how much previous research in the last three years discussing language impoliteness was searched through electronic databases, namely Google Scholar, Taylor & Francis Online, and ScienceDirect. Meanwhile, the second research aims to find out how much the issue of language impoliteness is of concern to researchers from various circles so that a conclusion can be reached about the urgency of this research topic. This research method is to search various articles published between 2021 and 2023. The search results found 44 articles on the topic of impoliteness, but in the discussion, we will discuss eight articles that are considered the most representative of the 44 articles. These eight articles can represent all the issues that are the topic of discussion of language impoliteness in cross-cultural societies. Thus, it can be concluded that the topic of language impoliteness is still an important issue that requires further study to find various solutions to this problem

Abstract

The imbalance in gender recognition between women and men has encouraged the feminist movement which emphasizes the recognition of feminist identity. Feminist identity upholds women's culture and values ​​as distinctive characteristics. However, the feminist movement was not completely successful, women still often live in the shadow of men's expectations. This causes women to abandon their identity and adapt the value of inclusion. The research method is qualitative descriptive using listening and note-taking techniques. The problem related to the depiction of women with the adaptation of masculinity in the film Avatar The Last Airbender focuses on noble female characters. The aim is to describe the representation of rejection of female feminist identity in the character Azula in the film. The research results show that Azula's rejection of her feminist identity is due to her ambition to control the throne and fulfill the expectations of the criteria for a leader given by her father. Azula adapts masculinity values ​​from the way she dresses, her favorite choices which mostly emphasize muscles and strength, her interest in political aspects and warfare, and her aggressive nature. Azula's character is a breakthrough for the stereotype of a noble princess who must be gentle and full of love. On the other hand, Azula emphasizes strength, ambition, and a strong desire to defeat. Abstract

Javanese script is a cultural heritage of the Indonesian nation that has high historical, philosophical, and aesthetic value. However, in the context of education, student interest in learning Javanese script is still relatively low. Low student interest results in low Javanese script writing skills in students. Lack of Javanese script writing skills results in low student learning outcomes. This occurs because students have difficulty distinguishing the form of Javanese script that is almost similar, the lack of reading sources containing Javanese script, the lack of use of Javanese script in everyday life and the lack of learning media that is adaptive to the development of digital technology. These conditions require a solution, so in this study Rajagita Media becomes a solution to the problem of students' lack of skills in writing Javanese script and the low learning outcomes of writing Javanese script students of SMP Negeri 7 Madiun. This study aims to determine the process of implementing Rajagita media in learning to write Javanese script for grade IX students of SMP Negeri 7 Madiun which influences students' writing skills. This study used a quantitative approach with an experimental method, namely a Quasi-Experimental Design, applying a "post-test only control group design." The results of the study show that the process of implementing or using Rajagita media in the experimental class with the following steps: 1. Providing trigger questions in apperception, pre-test, introduction of Rajagita media and procedures for use, as well as group discussions and practice of writing Javanese script on various platforms independently by students, and discussions of various obstacles and challenges can have a significant impact on students' writing skills. These writing skills include neatness of writing, correct use of pairs and sandhangan, using scripts in words and sentences correctly. Students' writing skills have an impact on improving student learning outcomes. The increase in student learning outcomes is proven by the p-value = 0.000 <0.05, meaning the p-value is smaller than the significance level, so Ha is accepted, so the study shows that the use of Rajagita media has a positive effect on improving students' Javanese script writing skills. This is evidenced by the difference in the average post-test score in the experimental class using Rajagita media with a pre-test score of 68 and a post-test score of 68. 87, an increase of 19 points. The control class, which did not receive any treatment, had a pretest score of 67, increasing to 69, a 2-point increase. This difference in scores indicates that Rajagita media is effective as a learning medium in improving students' Javanese script writing skills. The conclusion of this study confirms that the process of using Rajagita media in learning has proven effective in developing students' Javanese script writing skills. The application of technology in education not only enriches learning methods but also contributes to the preservation of Javanese script and strengthening cultural literacy in the context of modern education.

Abstract

Language skills consist of four aspects, one of which is writing skills. At the junior high school (SMP) level, one of the writing skills taught is writing news texts. In writing news, it is necessary to pay attention to the elements, structure, and linguistic rules. However, in reality, many students still experience difficulties in composing news texts. These difficulties can stem from various factors, such as a lack of understanding of text structure, limited vocabulary, low interest in reading news, and inadequate ability to express ideas coherently and logically. In addition, the limited use of engaging and relevant learning media also presents a challenge in the writing learning process. Teachers are required to provide innovative and creative instruction in order to achieve the learning objectives. Various models, methods, strategies, and learning media can be used to make this happen. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of digital applications in improving students' ability to write news texts. Digital applications are considered suitable and relevant to be implemented in education in line with current technological developments. The method used in this study is a literature review, which aims to analyze the effectiveness of digital applications in enhancing news writing skills. The results of the literature review indicate that the use of digital applications in learning is effective in increasing students’ interest and motivation to learn. In addition, students’ understanding of the subject matter also improves, as evidenced by the fact that students’ scores are now above average.

Abstract

Poetry, as a form of literary expression, not only offers aesthetic beauty through the arrangement of words but also contains profound meanings that represent values of life, culture, and education. In the context of modern Javanese literature, poetry serves as a reflective medium of the collective experiences of Javanese society amidst dynamic change. Modern Javanese poetry acts as a bridge between traditional heritage and modern awareness, combining artistic expression with moral messages.This study aims to examine the educational values embedded in modern Javanese poetry through the lens of Ki Hajar Dewantara’s educational philosophy. His seven fundamental principles—freedom, nature, culture, humanity, nationality, kinship, and student-centered education—serve as the theoretical framework for analysis. Through a literature review and hermeneutic approach, this research reveals that modern Javanese poetry holds transformative educational messages relevant to character development and cultural preservation.

Abstract

Psikoanalisis Jacques Lacan adalah teori yang berfokus pada perkembangan kejiwaan manusia. Lacan percaya nirsadar (alam bawah sadar) adalah hal yang terstruktur seperti bahasa dan dapat hadir secara bersamaan dengan bahasa. Hal ini berarti bahasa dapat menunjukkan alam bawah sadar seseorang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tiga fase perkembangan (tahap nyata, imajiner, dan simbolik) dan hasrat tokoh Kin yang ingin memiliki (anaklitik) dan ingin menjadi (narsistik) pada novel yang berjudul Kamu Berkilau karya Eka Andini Oktasyah. Hasrat tersebut dapat dibagi lagi menjadi hasrat anaklitik aktif, anaklitik pasif, narsistik aktif, dan narsistik pasif. Metode yang digunakan yaitu kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya fase nyata, imajiner, dan simbolik pada proses perkembangan tokoh Kin. Kin berhasrat ingin memiliki (anaklitik) keluarga yang utuh seperti keluarga Nadira. Pada tahap perkembangan kejiwaan atau psikologi kepribadian yaitu fase simbolik, Kin mulai berdamai dengan masa lalunya karena hasrat ingin menjadi (narsistik) orang yang dapat mengutarakan perasaannya pada Nadira.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji nilai-nilai sufistik yang meliputi kesadaran kemanusiaan, pembebasan sosial, dan konstruksi moral sebagai fondasi pendidikan holistik yang mengintegrasikan dimensi spiritual dan sosial. Latar belakang penelitian berangkat dari pemahaman bahwa sufisme tidak hanya berfokus pada praktik ibadah individual, tetapi juga berperan dalam pembentukan karakter manusia yang utuh dan transformasi sosial. Kajian teori menggunakan pendekatan hermeneutikaprofetik, sebuah metode multidisiplin yang menggabungkan pengalaman spiritual dengan tafsir makna sosial dan etis dalam kehidupan manusia. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif interpretatif, dengan pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam dan analisis naratif terhadap pengalaman para praktisi sufistik, seperti Abuamin dan Moh. Supandi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan sufistik menghasilkan proses pembelajaran holistik yang menumbuhkan kesadaran kemanusiaan berdasarkan kedekatan spiritual dengan Tuhan, membangun pembebasan sosial melalui solidaritas dan kepedulian terhadap ketidakadilan, serta mengembangkan konstruksi moral yang berakar pada penyucian jiwa dan kebijaksanaan dalam bertindak. Dengan demikian, sufisme memberikan kontribusi penting dalam membentuk individu yang berakhlak mulia, empatik, dan aktif dalam membela kemanusiaan melalui integrasi antara dimensi spiritual dan sosial. Abstract

This research aims to describe students responses in using the tiktok firhan_ashari media as learning media on the motivation to write procedural texts for class VII students. This research was motivated by the fact that class VII students often play social media during learning activities, one of which is TikTok. This research uses qualitative research with a descriptive type. Data collection was carried out using documentation and questionnaire methods. The subjectct of this research were 28 class students at SMPN 36 Surabaya. The data collection instrument is a questionnaire sheet which is then analyzed using the Mean formula. The results of the research show that the implementation of learning using the TikTok firhan_ashari media has an effect on motivation to write procedural texts. The total percentage average score obtained from student responses was 86.424%, which is included in the very strong category. This shows that the use of the TikTok firhan_ashari media to motivate students to write procedural texts in class VII received a positive response and was able to provide motivation for students in writing procedural texts. Abstract

This research aims to understand the discovery learning model on the ability to tell stories to improve the social skills of junior high school students. The method used is classroom research (CAR), in this research carried out in two cycles with each cycle having four stages, namely planning, action, observation and reflection. The subjects of this research were students at junior high school level. Then descriptive data analysis was carried out. The results of the research show an increase in cycle I and cycle II. It can be observed that there is a quite significant increase. In cycle I the average score of all class IX students at SMPN 33 Surabaya was 62.22. So, it can be seen that there is an increase in the average score of class IX students at SMPN 33 Surabaya from cycle I to cycle II, amounting to 11.78%. Social skills also get a boost. This is demonstrated by the results of the pretest and posttest which have been carried out with three indicators, namely self-management skills, academic abilities and compliance skills.
