Abstract

Lhuing the times of the census 1974 - 1981 the Bali mynah population steadily increased, but from 1983 - 1986 it has steadily decreased. At present the population of the Bali mynah is declining at an alarming rate, so it needs a realistic conservation programme designed to enhance the survival of this species. The population decline is related to the environmental resistance, such as : illegal hunting, forest fine, and habitat destruction due to human pressure.

Abstract

Rafflesia parma Blume is one of the 12 Rafflesia spp. found in Indonesia which has an attractive and relatively big flower and a unique life. As a holoparasite, this astonishing plant is particularly dependent on the distribution of, and its interaction with the liana host, Tetrasfigma sp.The distribution of R. patma is confined to the Leuweung Sancang Nature Reserve, the Pananjung Pangandaran Nature Reserve and the Nusa Kambangan Nature Reserve. The people in Java andKalimantan have been utilizing Rafflesia for traditional bio-medicine (such as for the raw material of jamu "patmosari") since a long time. However, illegal harvesting of the buds seem to ignore the sustained yield principle. Without any protection measures, this will lead to the extinction of the endemic plant species in the near future. The important components of R. patma habitat are described in this paper, among others are its association with the tropical rain forest, the characteris'ticsof the liana host, the pollinator and seed disperser and some aspects of the abiotic components.

Abstract

lndonesia is categorized as one of the biodiversity centers in the world. The value of biological diversity as environmental, economic and social resources for maintaining the integrity and sustainability of natural systems and human life is very important. But, in other side, human development and thepopulation increase have caused the high rate of extinction of various plant and animal species. This high rate of extinction calls for a very serious and prompt action of conservation. Priority should be given to designing protected area for protection of species and ecosystem. Quantitatively, conservation development programs of Indonesia have a great achievement by designating 385 protected area which covering 22 560 545.46 ha. This paper overviews the development of protected area in lndonesia including systems, history, existing distribution, problems and obstacles, and government policy.

Abstract

Abstract

Javan rhino (Rhinoceros sondaicus) is one of the rarest species in the world so categorized as critically endangered by IUCN. Survival of the rhino in Ujung Kulon National Park is threatened by a variety of factors that could cause these extinct animals, such as: invasion langkap, competition with the bulls, and inbreeding. The strategy should be promoted in maintaining and developing population that is making a second habitat. The purpose of this research is to know the suitability level of Cikepuh Wildlife Reserves (CWR) as javan rhino’s second habitat. The method used is the field observations. Results showed that the CWR have high suitability as javan rhino’s second habitat with an area of 6886.4 ha (84.72% CWR). Cikepuh Wildlife Reserves components that have a high potential as second habitat are on aspects altitude, air temperature, humidity, water availability, and soil pH. Strategies that can be done in improving the suitability of the CWR as second habitat includ: create pools ofthe rhino, planting food plants that have a high palatability and reduce human pressure through strict enforcement, public education, standardized regular patrols, rehabilitation and enrichment of degraded area, livestock expenses , and review the MoU regarding the use of the area as a military Cikepuh SM. Keywords: Cikepuh Wildlife Reserve, habitat suitability, javan rhino, second habitat

Abstract

In order to get a better quality from supply of ecotourism activities in Cibodas Ecotourism Destination Area,  a research about supply chain has been done. A set of closed-ended questionaire has been distributed to collect visitor opinion and perspective on supply condition in the area; by using a score system of Likert. The result showed at least 6 important parties in the supply chain in the area, i.e: (1) Government as regulator, (2) Government as destination site owner and management,  (3) Non Governmental Business Unit Institution,  (4) Major Private Sectors, (5) Midle Private Sectors and (6) Small Private Sectors. Actually, the important element of a supply chain had been going, but however almost all of them haven’t been in their best productivity performance yet. Because of the classic problem of low-capacity of human resources is still going, the in-situ quality of ecotourism experiences and satisfaction also became a problem for the visitors. Theoritically, the quality of ecotourism resources in the area had high-quality values, but however no single ecotourist characteristic group that keen to score the ecotourism supply in the area for the maximum score. Most of supply variables are only scored by the visitor on “fair” value.  In order to solve those problems in supply-chain, a concept  called  “booked-access destinantion” is proposed. The booked access destinantion is believe that not only pattornize the tourist behaviour but also will give the stake holder of supply chain a chance to get better potential price. Keywords: Supply Chain, Ecotourism, Cibodas, Likert scale, West Java
