Abstract

This study aimed to 1) to find out the effectiveness of the integration technique module in integral calculus learning, and 2) to find out the increase in the mathematical creative thinking ability after implementing the integration technique module in integral calculus learning. The development of module was conducted by using ADDIE model with five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The subjects in this study were 16 students in the 3rd semester of Mathematics Education Study Program, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Riau. The research instruments were an expert validation questionnaire, a student response questionnaire, and a mathematical creative thinking ability test. The data obtained were analyzed by using quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis methods. Based on the results of the validity test, the integration technique module was declared valid and suitable for students to use in the integral calculus course. Judging from the results of the module practicality test, the average percentage of practicality values was 77.8125 and was in the practical category. Referring to the results of the module effectiveness test, the n-gain average of students' mathematical creative thinking abilities was 0.64 and in the medium category. Because the integrated engineering module met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness, it could be stated that the developed integration technique module improved students' mathematical creative thinking skills in the integral calculus course.

Abstract

In an era of increasing societal complexity and rapid change, developing mathematical creative thinking has become a central challenge in mathematics education worldwide, particularly in cognitively demanding domains such as integral calculus. While conceptual understanding remains fundamental, research indicates that students’ engagement in creative mathematical problem solving is strongly influenced by dispositional and metacognitive factors. Among these, habits of mind are increasingly recognized as essential in supporting persistence, flexibility, and reflective thinking when students confront complex mathematical problems. This study investigates the relationship between habits of mind and mathematical creative thinking among undergraduate mathematics education students enrolled in an integral calculus course. Using a correlational research design, data were collected from 60 students through a habits of mind questionnaire and an open-ended mathematical creative thinking test assessing fluency, flexibility, and originality. The findings show that participants’ habits of mind and mathematical creative thinking were generally underdeveloped, with most students falling within moderate to low achievement categories. Correlation analysis revealed a very strong positive association between the two variables, indicating that students with more developed habits of mind tend to demonstrate higher levels of creative thinking in integral calculus. Habits of mind accounted for a substantial proportion of variance in students’ mathematical creative thinking, providing empirical support for their role as a dispositional foundation for creative thinking in advanced mathematics learning. These findings underscore the importance of instructional approaches that intentionally cultivate students’ habits of mind alongside conceptual understanding to foster sustained creative mathematical engagement.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and validate a mathematics teaching module on data presentation content based on the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model to facilitate the mathematical representation ability of Phase D (Grade VII) students. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which includes the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. Research instruments consisted of expert validation sheets and student response questionnaires. The validation results indicate that the developed module achieved an average expert score of 91.11%, categorized as very valid. Practicality testing showed average student response scores of 91.17% in the small-group trial and 86.93% in the large-group trial, indicating that the module is highly practical. These findings suggest that the developed PBL-based teaching module is feasible for classroom implementation and effective in supporting students’ mathematical representation ability in data presentation learning. This study contributes to the development of contextual instructional materials based on PBL and provides a foundation for future research examining the effectiveness of the module through experimental designs.

Abstract

Students' perceptions of learning influence the achievement of learning objectives. With the current online learning, students need to have good self-regulation to obtain excellent learning outcomes. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between perceptions of online learning and the self-regulation of Mathematics Education students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The subject of this research is 121 students in semesters 2, 4, and 6 of the Mathematics Education Program in One University in Indonesia. Students in that semester are students who have experienced both face-to-face lectures and online lectures. To collect data in the study, researchers use questionnaires. This study uses descriptive statistical and quantitative analysis techniques. The results showed that student perception of online learning was correlated to student self-regulation during the COVID-19 pandemic (r=0.545 or moderate correlation). It means when students have a good perception of online learning, their self-regulation tends to be good, vice versa. Thus, one way to improve student self-regulation is by increasing student perceptions of online learning.
