Abstract

The low-wage workers play a vital role in supporting in Indonesia's economy but remain highly vulnerable and are often excluded from social protection policies. This study aims to profile low-wage workers and provide insights for policymakers to improve social protection measures. The research utilizes repeated cross-sectional microdata from the National Labor Force Survey (Survei Angkatan Kerja Nasional/Sakernas) between August 2018 and August 2023, a logistic regression model with marginal effects was applied to identify key characteristics of low-wage workers. The findings show that the primary characteristics of low-wage workers are low education levels and working fewer than 20 hours per week. This group is predominantly female, unmarried or divorced, and from younger generations (Gen Z). They are often employed in the informal sector, lacking specific skills, and are mostly working in agriculture. The COVID-19 pandemic worsened their vulnerabilities, amplifying economic risks that persist post-pandemic. The policy implications include expanding educational opportunities to enhance workers' employability, followed by implementing skill training and job placement programs. Additionally, extending minimum wage coverage to both formal and informal sectors, along with offering flexible work arrangements and subsidized childcare, particularly for women, can further support these workers. Furthermore, extending social protection to include social security and healthcare, with incentives for employer contributions, is essential. During crises, policies prioritizing healthcare access, income support, and job protection are crucial for ensuring the economic security of low-wage workers and reducing inequalities.

Abstract

This study intended to explore the effect of financial literacy, social media use, and pay-later promotion on online impulsive and compulsive buying among youth. Using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM), 366 valid responses were analysed. Additionally, a moderation analysis using multigroup analysis (MGA) was conducted to determine if there are gender differences in these relationships. The finding revealed that of the three predictors of impulsive buying, only social media use had a positive and significant impact, while impulsive buying became a crucial determinant for compulsive buying. Interestingly, this study found that gender did not moderate the relationships outlined in the proposed model, indicating that the effects were similar for both males and females. This study suggests that youth should be wise in using social media, as it could lead to excessive purchasing that worsens the financial and psychological condition of both males and females.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role and impact of the tourism sector on the Banten economy. The analytical method used is the 2016 Banten Province Input-Output analysis, for the classification of 52 industrial sectors and 17 business fields. The approach used,; analyzing backward and forward linkages which are key and superior sectors in the Banten economy, multipliers (output, income and employment), describing the priority scale for developing tourism sectors in Banten, describing shock analysis of government policy, if there is an increase in the tourism budget and its impact on Banten economy. The results of the study show that the backward and forward linkage analysis of all tourism-related sectors is very strong with IKBL (backward linkage index) and IKDN (forward linkage index) values above 1, the highest forward linkage value is 2.6 in the air transport sector. The highest value of backward linkage is 1.55 in the rail transport sector. Business fields related to the tourism sector in Banten are a key and superior sector in the Banten economy, as is the electricity sector. The highest value of the multiplier lies in income, namely; information and communication sector with a value of 5.06. The next highest multiplier value lies in the output and labor multiplier in the transportation sector. If an additional budget is given, the highest multiplier value (output, income and employment) lies in the accommodation and food and drink provision sector. So, the most appropriate policy is, if government spending and private investment, focus on opening new businesses in sectors related to tourism through prioritizing the provision of accommodation and food and drink, transportation (air transportation, rail transportation, warehousing and supporting services). transportation, postal and courier, land transportation, sea transportation, river, lake and ferry transportation), information and communication sector, corporate services and other services.

Abstract

The conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural uses poses a significant threat to food security, particularly in metropolitan buffer regions such as Bogor Regency. Rapid population growth and economic restructuring have led to a 24.5% reduction in rice field area, declining from 48,177 ha in 2003 to 36,355 ha in 2019, contributing to a regional rice deficit of 37%. This study employs a quantitative spatial approach using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), integrating Spatial Overlay, Cellular Automata (CA), and a Multi-Layer Perceptron Artificial Neural Network (MLP-ANN) to analyze land conversion dynamics and evaluate the effectiveness of spatial planning policies. The results reveal persistent conversion of rice fields, including within designated food crop zones under the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW), indicating a misalignment between spatial planning and actual land-use dynamics. This study contributes to applied environmental science by demonstrating the value of integrated spatial modeling in assessing land-use policy effectiveness and supporting spatially informed strategies for sustainable agricultural land management and local food security.
