Abstract

Surra is a parasitic disease caused by Trypanosoma evansi. The incidence of trypanosomiasis was influenced by geographical conditions, management system, vector, and host. The aim of this research is to determine the prevalence and intensity of T. evansi infection in horse in Kabaru village, subdistrict Rindi. The sample used was blood from 100 horses taken from Kabaru Village. Blood collected was done through a jugular vein and a thin blood smear were made then stained with Giemsa 10%. Preparations of blood smear were examined under microscope to determine the T. evansi infection and intensity were calculated on average number of T. evansi in 100 red blood cells. The result showed that 8% of blood sample infected by T. evansi with the infection intensity of 13-71 parasites with an average number of 34.5 ± 22.7. The prevalence of sex-based infections was found in males at 12% and females at 6.7%. There was no significant difference in prevalence of T. evansiinfection between male and female horse.

Abstract

Nusa Penida is a pure breeding area of bali cattle, in which the cattle are mainly kept in conventional maintenance system and potentially infected by parasite, especially gastrointestinal nematodes. This study aims were to determine the prevalence and type of gastrointestinal nematodes in bali cattle breeders in Nusa Penida. Fecal samples were taken from 50 bali cattle breeders kept in cages (simantri) and another 50 samples were from cattle not kept in cage. The floating method was used for morphological examination and prevalence, the data was analyzed with descriptive analysis. The results showed, the prevalence of bovine gastrointestinal nematodes in Nusa Penida was 25%. The prevalence of nematode infection in bali cattle that kept cages was lower compared to the cattle that were not kept in cage. Strongyloides papillosus and Capillaria bovis were the gastrointestinal nematodes found in the infected cattle.

Abstract

The research has been conducted to find out the infection of coccidia and strongyloides in bali cattle, after the administration of minerals in varying amount. The examined samples were 24 feces of bali cattle, which were divided into four treatment groups: without mineral administration (control group), mineral administration of 2.5 gram/head/day; 5.0 gram/ head/day; and 7.5 grams/head/day. After three months administration, examination of coccidia and strongyloides infection was performed using sedimentation concentration and floatation method with saturated salt substance. The data obtained were nominal data which analyzed by using chi square test. The results showed that faecal examination in the bali cattle that were not given mineral treatment (control) was found ookista coccidia and larvae strongyloides. However, no coccidia and strongyloides infection in bali cattle found in the minerals administration (2.5, 5.0, 7.5 gr/d) groups.

Abstract

Gastrointestinal protozoal infections still be factors which affect health bali cattle and causing economic losses for farmers. Bali cattle reared in Nusa Penida designated as pure. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the prevalence and identify the type of gastrointestinal protozoa in Nusa Penida. A sample of faeces were taken from 100 cows bali female, checked using Zajac and Conboy method (2012). The identification is based on morphology and morphometry. While the prevalence is determined by the way, the number of infected samples divided by the number of samples examined and multiplied by one hundred percent. Results showed the prevalence of gastrointestinal protozoa that infects of Bali cattle female at Nusa Penida is twenty percent, with two types of protozoa infection is Eimeria auburnensis and Eimeria bovis

Abstract

ABSTRACT The role of the dog as a definitive host for a number of zoonotic parasites has been recognized as a significant public health problem especially strey dog population. In this population, poor levels of hygine and overcrowding, together with the lack of veterinary attention and zoonotic awareness, exacerbates the risk of disease infection. A public service was undertaken on Friday 16th September 2005 in Sanur beach to control the dog parasitic zoonoses. About 30 trey dogs and 31 domesticated dogs were treated with anthelmintic to control the helminth infections. All of strey dogs were clinically in poor condition.

Abstract

Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada mayarakat ini adalah untuk dapat meningkatkan produktivitas sapi bali di kecamatan Mengwi Badung, melalui upaya pengendalian penyakit akibat parasit. Sapi yang terus berada di kandang tidak mengurangi kemungkinan terinfeksi oleh parasit. Sistem pertanian terintegrasi (SIMANTRI), cara pemeliharaan sapi dengan terus berada di kandang Simantri. Target khusus yang ingin dicapai adalah mengendalikan penyakit cacingan dan ektoparasit pada sapi kandang Simantri di kecamatan Mengwi Badung. Sasaran kegiatan ini adalah petani ternak Simantri yang memelihara sapinya dengan cara dikandangkan, sesuai kandang Simantri. Metode yang diterapkan untuk tercapainya tujuan kegiatan ini adalah melakukan spraying dan pemberian obat cacing langsung ke peternak Simantri di kecamatan Mengwi Badung untuk pengendalian penyakit parasit. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat di desa Penarungan Mengwi Badung berupa pelayanan kesehatan pada ternak sapi kandang Simantri, telah dilakukan pada tanggal 8 September 2017. Simpulan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat di desa Penarungan Mengwi Badung berupa pelayanan kesehatan telah berhasil dilaksanakan dengan baik. Saran dari evaluasi hasil kegiatan ini, disarankan untuk menyertai pemberian obat anti protozoa disamping obat cacing dan vitamin pada ternak sapi kandang simantri.

Abstract

This research was aimed to observe the proportion and the dynamics of mosquito larvae of Aedes, Anopheles, and Culex in Denpasar-Bali. Larva samples were collected from several areas such as Sanggaran’s abattoir, rice fields, water drainages and water container in densely-populated area. Sample collections were conducted three times in two week interval. Larvae was identified macroscopically and microscopically and three species of larvae, Aedes, Anopheles, Culex were subjected for further study. The distribution and composition of larvae at rice field (Anopheles and Culex) and pond (Aedes and Culex) were not significantly different (P>0,05) within the first (mid of July 2003), second (early August 2003), and the third (mid August 2003) periods of observation. At the third period, however, Culex larvae was observed besides of Aedes larvae. The composition of mosquito larvae was relatively unchanged during three periods of sampling, except the occurrence of Culex larvae in pond in third period of sampling.

Abstract

Sixty four samples from female and male local chickens in high and low attitude areas of Bali wereexamined for Leucocytozoon infection. Erytrocyte count, haemoglobin level and packed cell volume (PCV)were examined. Data obtained from this study was analyzed by Wilcoxon Mann Whitney Test. The resultshowed that no significant difference was observed on erytrocyte, haemoglobin and PCV values betweeninfected (2,48 x 106/mm; 9,36g/dl; and 33,62% respectively) and uninfected (2,56x106/mm3; 9,47g/dl and34,28% respectively). A significant difference was however observed on the erythrocyte count between malechickens in higher area (2,60x106/mm3) and female in lower area (2,59x106/mm3). No significant differencewas observed on haemoglobin and PCV between male chickens in higher area (9,35g/dl & 34,62% and9,56g/dl & 34,75% respectively) and female chickens in lower area (9,38g/dl & 32,63% and 9,16g/dl &32,5% rspectively).

Abstract

The aims of this study was to determine the presence of Toxoplasma gondii in free-rangechicken using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) method based on the tachyzoite and bradyzoitestage specific genes. SAG1 and BAG1 are the tachyzoite and bradyzoite stage-specific gene respectively.The primers for SAG1 and BAG1 were designed using Web-base Program Primer 3. Genomic DNAfrom free-range chicken heart and brain was isolated using Pure-Link Genomic Isolation Kit.DNA amplification by PCR using primers for SAG1 and BAG1 genes was used for diagnosis ofT.gondii. The results showed that the DNA amplification using primers for SAG1 and BAG1 geneswas successfully applied to determine of Toxoplasma gondii in free-range chicken.
