Abstract

The use of information and communication technology in learning Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) at Universitas Brawijaya created a trend of popularity in the use of culinary vlog videos by middle-level students. Despite making a positive contribution, the use of this technology often leads to morphosemantic errors in the use of Indonesian. These errors include aspects of word use, sentence structure, and vocabulary selection that do not conform to language norms. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach by observing three culinary vlog videos as samples. The method in collecting data, this research employs observation and note-taking techniques. Subsequently, data analysis is conducted through three stages, namely the first stage involves data reduction to simplify information, the second stage focuses on presenting data for better clarity, and the third stage entails formulating conclusions based on the results of the conducted analysis. The results of the study found that there were 9 morphosemantic error data in the first video with Olivia, 4 morphosemantic error data in the second video with Lestari, and 5 morphosemantic error data in the third video with Dalia. It can be concluded that language errors that arise can affect the understanding and clarity of messages conveyed in daily communication. With a better understanding of language errors, it is expected to contribute to maintaining the quality of good and correct use of Indonesian in various daily communication situations. Abstract

Halal cullinare has become a necessity, especially in tourist areas. Therefore, halal certification is required, especially in locations with a majority non-Muslim population. Besides ensuring halal status, halal certification also serves as a means to promote local cullinare promising economic growth for the local community while preserving the rich culinary heritage. This community service project focuses on three villages on the slopes of Mount Bromo, namely Ngadiwono Village, Tlogosari, and Mojorejo. The program took place on June 25-26, 2023, with a primary focus on the Tosari Village rest area, in collaboration with the Baladaun community, local tourism communities (Pokdarwis), women's organizations (ibu-ibu PKK), and local SMEs (UMKM). Several activities have already been carried out, including the dissemination and education about halal certification, with experts and halal certification consultants from Brawijaya University invited to provide guidance. As a follow-up, the community service team will compile a halal certification guidebook containing instructions on administrative preparation, applying for halal certification through the Ministry of Religious Affairs' provided application, and providing assistance in preparing the necessary documentation for submission through the application. Abstract

This research aims to reveal women's resilience strategies in body shaming discourse conveyed on X social media in the Friendly-Friendly community feature, especially in terms of Sara Mills' Discourse Analysis Theory. This type of research is qualitative descriptive research. The data in this research is the text in tweets from Twitter users in the Friendly Community. The data collection technique is carried out using documentation techniques. The data analysis technique is carried out using the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results of research on the subject-object position, women act as subjects and objects that are initially objectified, turn into active subjects. Meanwhile, the writer-reader position shows the writer's resilience and shows a discourse of resistance to body shaming.  The forms of body shaming that women often experience focus on 3 forms, namely abbreviations, the use of metaphorical figures of speech, and the use of satirical figures of speech. Six aspects of resilience strategies were identified, namely optimism, emotional regulation, self-efficacy, problem analysis, impulse control, and reaching out.. The absence of empathy strategies shows that women focus on self-protection, self-acceptance, and seeking support from those around them.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the linguistic landscape on the naming of places of worship that can be observed in the religious and cultural and social landscapes. Some languages are also found on common signs in places of worship. The problem focuses on the function of information and symbols to find the landscape motif that occurs in the naming of the worship theme. This study uses Linguistic Landscape Theory, which describes the existence of linguals, linguistic ideologies, and lingual competition. The research method uses a phenomenological approach with a qualitative descriptive research type, although some information uses numerical data. The target of the study is language identity in Lamongan with the most popular language pattern instruments, namely Indonesian, Arabic, Javanese, Sanskrit. The results of the study show that the linguistic landscape in the naming of places of worship has several information functions (1) as a manifestation of the identity of places of worship, (2) as information on the owners of places of worship, (3) as a means of informing religious streams, sects, and mass organizations, (4) as a means of promotion, (5) as a location marker. While the symbolic function shows (1) the symbolic function of the Indonesian language as the essence of the harmony of religious organizations, (2) the symbolic function of the Arabic language as modernity and identity, (3) the symbolic function of the Javanese language: traditionality and historical preservation.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the forms and patterns of language use, and informational-symbolic functions of signage employed by visually impaired massage therapists. The data source comprises 91 photographic records of signs and banners belonging to visually impaired massage practitioners across five districts (Lowokwaru, Blimbing, Sukun, Kedung Kandang, and Klojen) in Malang City, collected through field observation. Textual data were extracted from the words, phrases, and clauses appearing on these signs and banners. Data‑collection techniques included photography and transcription of all text into a corpus. For data analysis, Landry and Bourhis’s (1997) linguistic landscape framework was combined with corpus‑linguistic methods using Voyant Tools (Cirrus, StreamGraph, Trends panels) to identify lexical frequencies, collocations, and usage trends. The informational function was examined by counting seventeen types of informational signs; the symbolic function was then analysed through interpretive interviews and semantic‑corpus analysis. Findings reveal a dominance of monolingual Bahasa Indonesia (63.7 %), followed by bilingual (29.7 %) and multilingual (6.6 %) displays, reflecting both ethnic‑identity strategies and market capitalization. Core information, business name, service type, certification, contact details, prevailed in frequency. Corpus visualizations confirm a strong semantic association between “pijat” (massage) and “tunanetra” (visually impaired), as well as the emergence of symbols denoting economic self‑reliance, professionalism, and legal legitimacy. This research captures both the presence and the symbolic resistance of visually impaired therapists within Malang City’s public sphere.
