Abstract

This study provides a theoretical examination of the vital role of the mother tongue in supporting early literacy competence among lower-grade elementary students. In the era of globalization, the position of local languages is often seen as contradictory to the mastery of the national language. However, through an indepth analysis based on the Common Underlying Proficiency theory, it is found that the first language is a cognitive asset that facilitates the effective transfer of conceptual understanding. The use of the mother tongue functions as scaffolding that reduces students' mental burden when identifying letter symbols and word meanings, while simultaneously creating an emotionally supportive learning atmosphere. The findings emphasize that although linguistic interference is inevitable, the integrated use of local languages can accelerate reading fluency and strengthen the synergy between home and school education. Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine the crucial role of morphological literacy in fostering critical thinking skills among elementary school students within Indonesian language learning. The phenomenon of Indonesia's low literacy rankings based on PISA data provides the background for the urgency of this research, suggesting a need for language structure teaching strategies that can stimulate cognitive development. Using the Narrative Literature Review (NLR) method through a qualitative approach, this research synthesizes various scientific literatures to dissect the correlation between morphological awareness and critical thinking sharpness. The findings show that morphological literacy particularly the mastery of affixation and reduplication serves as a cognitive foundation that enables students to deconstruct meaning beyond textual understanding. This analytical process toward word structure encourages the development of inferential and evaluative thinking skills, which are the main pillars of critical thinking. This study concludes that strengthening morphological literacy within contextual learning is a strategic instrument to enhance students' intellectual capacity in facing future information complexities.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of regional languages on the use of Indonesian among elementary school students. The background of this research is the strong dominance of regional languages as students’ first language, which often affects their use of Indonesian as a second language in formal learning contexts. This study aims to analyze the forms of interference and identify the factors influencing students’ language use. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using a literature study method, which involves analyzing and synthesizing relevant sources such as journals, books, and official documents. The findings indicate that regional languages significantly affect students’ Indonesian usage in several linguistic aspects, including phonology, morphology, syntax, and vocabulary. Common forms of interference include code-mixing, inaccurate sentence structures, and pronunciation influenced by regional accents. However, regional languages also play a positive role as a bridge in understanding learning materials, especially at the early stages of education. Therefore, balanced language management is needed in the learning process. Teachers play a crucial role in guiding students to use Indonesian properly while still appreciating their regional language as part of cultural identity. This study highlights the importance of contextual and bilingual learning strategies to support students’ language development effectively.

Abstract

Psycholinguistic Analysis of Indonesian Morphology Acquisition in Elementary School Children: Cognitive Factors and Learning Environment is a literature study examining the development of Indonesian morphology in children aged 7-12 through a psycholinguistic lens. Employing a literature review methodology from Google Scholar, this research analyzes the interaction between cognitive factors (working memory, phonological awareness, metalinguistic awareness) and learning environments (home, school, digital media) in acquiring affixation, reduplication, and compounding. Key findings reveal a gradual progression: imitation in grades 1-2, generalization of inflectional affixes (me-, di-) in grades 3-4, and abstraction of derivational forms (pe-an) in grades 5-6. Cognitive factors accelerate the process by up to 40%, while rich narrative environments boost morphological vocabulary by 25-30%. Challenges include local dialect interference (Palembang, Javanese), overcrowded classrooms, and pandemic-induced limitations on verbal interaction. Practical recommendations include interactive teaching modules based on local folktales for the Merdeka Curriculum, teacher training in metalinguistic approaches, and home-school linkages. Theoretically, the study enriches models of agglutinative language acquisition in multilingual Indonesia, aligning with Krashen and Vygotsky theories. The primary contribution fills domestic research gaps to enhance elementary literacy, supporting SDG 4. Future research suggestions: empirical studies with eye-tracking post-pandemic.

Abstract

his study aims to examine the politeness of language used by elementary school students from a pragmatic perspective. The focus of the study includes forms of language politeness, types of politeness violations, and factors influencing students’ language use in communication within the school environment. The research employs a literature study method with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were obtained from various secondary sources such as books, academic journals, and previous research relevant to pragmatics and language politeness. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis by identifying, classifying, and synthesizing research findings. The results indicate that elementary school students have a basic understanding of language politeness, such as the use of polite expressions and the ability to adjust language based on the interlocutor. However, violations of politeness are still frequently found, particularly in the use of overly direct language and the lack of respectful expressions. Family, school, and digital media environments play significant roles in shaping students’ language behavior. Therefore, contextual learning and continuous habituation of polite language use are necessary. This study contributes to the development of pragmatic studies and serves as a foundation for improving language learning quality in elementary schools. Abstract

This study aims to examine word meaning (lexical semantics) and meaning structure (structural semantics) in the Indonesian language using a literature review approach. Data were collected from nationally accredited and SINTA-indexed scholarly articles retrieved from Google Scholar using relevant keywords on Indonesian semantics. The findings indicate that lexical semantics refers to the basic meaning inherent in a lexeme independently, which is relatively stable and can be found in dictionaries, such as the intrinsic meaning of words like “kuda” (horse) or “kursi” (chair). In contrast, structural meaning emerges from grammatical relationships between language elements in sentences or phrases, making it compositional and highly influenced by context and syntactic arrangement. These two dimensions of meaning complement each other; lexical meaning provides the foundation, while structural meaning offers flexibility and interpretive depth. Understanding both has significant implications for Indonesian language teaching, literary analysis, and the development of natural language processing technology. This study concludes that the semantic system of Indonesian is systematic and dynamic, capable of reflecting thoughts, culture, and social changes in Nusantara society. Abstract

This study examines the similarities and differences of Nusantara languages within a cultural context. Indonesia is known for its rich linguistic diversity, where each regional language reflects the identity, values, and local wisdom of its speakers. The purpose of this research is to analyze how these languages share common features while also demonstrating distinct characteristics influenced by cultural backgrounds. This study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method, collecting data from books, scientific journals, and relevant research articles. The findings indicate that Nusantara languages exhibit similarities in basic vocabulary, sentence structure, and cultural expressions, which suggest historical connections and shared cultural values. However, significant differences are found in phonology, lexicon, and grammatical systems, shaped by geographical conditions, social interactions, and cultural developments. Furthermore, language plays a crucial role in preserving cultural heritage, including traditions, norms, and oral literature. In the era of globalization, the use of regional languages is declining, particularly among younger generations, posing a threat to their sustainability. Therefore, efforts such as education, documentation, and the use of digital media are essential for language preservation. This study highlights the importance of understanding linguistic diversity as a means to strengthen cultural identity and promote mutual respect among different communities in Indonesia. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to describe the role of phonology in forming the clarity of Indonesian language. Phonology, as a branch of linguistics that studies the sound system of language, plays an important role in supporting speech comprehensibility through accurate pronunciation of phonemes, articulation, intonation, stress, and pauses. This research uses a literature review method by examining relevant sources such as books, scholarly journals, and language-related articles. The findings indicate that the clarity of Indonesian language is strongly influenced by speakers’ ability to produce speech sounds accurately according to linguistic rules. Pronunciation errors may cause ambiguity and reduce communication effectiveness. In addition, phonology also contributes to Indonesian language learning because it forms the basis for developing speaking and listening skills. Therefore, mastery of phonology is essential to support clear, accurate, and effective communication in the use of Indonesian language. Abstract

Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) plays a key role in shaping prospective teachers' understanding of Social Sciences (IPS). The complexity of social studies material and its strategic role in basic education requires increased understanding of PGSD students. With diverse backgrounds, a learning approach is needed that integrates this diversity. A group approach is considered a potential solution to achieve these goals. The formation of groups, based on similar backgrounds or interests, is expected to create a focused and relevant discussion environment. This research explores the extent to which group formation and application of a group approach improves PGSD students' understanding of basic social studies concepts. Learning through groups stimulates the application of concepts in practical situations. Group discussions give students the opportunity to link theory with direct experience through collaborative projects. The use of various learning resources, such as books, articles, videos and online learning, is integral in supporting student understanding. This research also investigates meetings with social studies experts to improve PGSD students' understanding. Expert involvement is expected to provide additional insights and in-depth perspectives, helping students develop a comprehensive understanding of basic social studies concepts. Through individual and group reflection, this research observes the internalization of understanding of PGSD students. Individual coaching sessions help students overcome difficulties during learning. It is hoped that the results of this research will provide new insights and make a significant contribution to increasing PGSD students' understanding of basic social studies concepts through a group approach. The research method used is a qualitative approach with case studies, carried out at PGSD Jambi University for the 2022/2023 academic year. The increase in student understanding was seen to be significant after implementing the group approach, indicating that this method can be effective in improving the quality of teacher education and creating a deep and relevant understanding of basic social studies concepts.
