Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the capacity of farmers in Bentenu Hamlet, West Lombok, in adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to support the transformation from traditional agriculture to digital-based smart farming. The main challenges faced by partners include low technological literacy, limited access to modern agricultural information, and reliance on conventional farming practices. The implementation methods consist of socialization, training, mentoring, and evaluation. Training materials cover the introduction of AI concepts, the use of the Plantix application for crop disease and pest diagnosis, the utilization of temperature, humidity, and soil pH sensors, as well as the introduction of Internet of Things (IoT)-based systems. The results show improved farmers’ understanding and skills in using digital technologies for land monitoring and decision-making in agricultural practices. Farmers are also able to identify plant problems more quickly and accurately using AI-based applications. Furthermore, the program increases farmers’ motivation to adopt modern technologies to improve agricultural productivity. Therefore, this activity contributes to enhancing digital literacy, improving agricultural efficiency, and accelerating the transition toward smart farming in rural areas

Abstract

The rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) has increased the demand for energy-efficient wireless communication systems and others under various environmental conditions. LoRa (Long Range) technology has attracted considerable attention due to its ability to support long-distance transmission with low power consumption. However, most existing LoRa network implementations rely on single-hop or non-redundant statistical routing to the gateway point, making them vulnerable to link degradation or node failure. This study enhances the statistical routing mechanism with path redundancy implemented on an ESP32 microcontroller and an SX1276 LoRa transceiver module to improve communication transmission. The network topology is modeled using graph theory, where each node is represented as a vertex and communication paths are represented as weighted edges based on the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI). The primary and backup routes are derived from the minimum-weighted path in the graph. Experimental results show that incorporating path redundancy improves the packet delivery ratio (PDR) and maintains communication continuity during primary path quality degradation. The proposed approach demonstrates the feasibility of a reliable multi-hop LoRa network using statistical routing with graph-based path redundancy.

Abstract

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) is a drought-tolerant crop with significant potential for dryland cultivation in Pujut District, Central Lombok Regency, Indonesia. This study reviews the potential application of Internet of Things (IoT) and multispectral Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technologies for precision sorghum cultivation in dryland ecosystems. A qualitative descriptive literature review was conducted, synthesizing 13 peer-reviewed studies on IoT sensor networks, UAV-based remote sensing, machine learning algorithms, and their integration in precision agriculture. The results indicate that IoT soil sensors can continuously monitor soil moisture, temperature, pH, and nutrient levels in Vertisol soils, while multispectral UAVs capture vegetation indices (NDVI, NDRE, CWSI) for biomass estimation, drought stress assessment, and yield prediction. The integration of both technologies, combined with machine learning approaches including ensemble learning and transfer learning, produces comprehensive crop health maps and site-specific management recommendations. The dryland characteristics of Pujut District, with Vertisol soils (pH 6.5–8.4) and limited water availability, are highly suitable for sorghum cultivation and would benefit substantially from precision agriculture interventions. A five-stage implementation framework is proposed, encompassing baseline survey, monitoring, analytics, precision management, and evaluation. Despite challenges including initial investment costs and technical capacity requirements, the long-term benefits of improved productivity and resource efficiency make IoT-UAV integration a viable strategy for sustainable dryland sorghum farming.

Abstract

Pest control in cocoa cultivation still relies heavily on chemical pesticides, which may negatively affect the environment. This community service activity aimed to improve farmers’ knowledge and skills in producing and utilizing botanical pesticides as an alternative pest control method. The activity was conducted in Buwun Sejati Village, Narmada District, West Lombok Regency through counseling, training, and hands-on practice using cloves, garlic, and galangal. The results showed improved farmers’ knowledge and skills in sustainable pest management. This activity also supports SDGs 2 (Zero Hunger), SDGs 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDGs 15 (Life on Land) through the implementation of more environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural practices.
