Abstract

Local wisdom (local knowledge, local wisdom) acts as a source of innovation and skills that can be empowered for the welfare of society. Local wisdom related to natural resources, especially the diversity of biological resources, culture and customs contains a moral message that society always maintains natural resources and traditional traditions so that they do not change due to the development of the times. Biology, which discusses living things, including their variety, origins, habitat, interactions, utilization and sustainability, has been philosophically reflected in the social order of life in the form of local wisdom. The purpose of writing this article is to reveal that local wisdom can be used as a medium for learning biology in schools, and can also be used as a learning resource so that students are motivated to improve their scientific literacy skills in studying local wisdom into biology learning materials, so that its existence can be preserved. Local wisdom-based learning in the future is expected to instill character in the community to maintain and preserve ancestral heritage, especially biological resources, to be used sustainably to support community life. This writing method uses a literature review method combined with direct experience in society. The implementation of local wisdom-based learning can be in the form of assigning students to write papers and integrate them into biology learning materials about several local wisdoms of the Balinese people that have existed for generations in the form of religious ceremonies, mythology, and advice that is highly adhered to by the community.

Abstract

Environmental cleanliness starting from the household environment, school, footpath and the wider environment really needs to be maintained together from garbage. SMP Negeri 11 Denpasar is located on the edge of Serangan Island beach and really needs shade trees, a fairly large playground and sports yard, lots of shade trees and the school canteen is a source of organic waste that needs to be managed properly. The existence of garbage really disturbs the beauty, beauty and source of disease and other negative impacts, so it needs to be managed properly so that there is no pile of garbage and reduces the sending of garbage to TPS. Management of organic waste into organic fertilizer and eco enzyme is a form of innovation and creativity to maintain the cleanliness of the school environment. Innovation and creativity can be implemented through community service activities in the form of training and mentoring in managing waste into organic fertilizer and eco enzyme. Community service activities can be carried out in collaboration with academics from universities as a form of implementing Tridharma. Training and mentoring in managing waste into organic fertilizer and eco enzyme is carried out in the school yard, so there will be interaction between students and the natural environment as a form of deep learning. The implementation of community service can be packaged in such a way that students can carry out activities well and happily as a form of developing the knowledge gained in classroom learning.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to provide training and assistance in writing scientific papers for teenagers and managing scientific literacy content at SMP Negeri 2 Abiansemal, Badung. The main problems faced are the less than optimal implementation of the Youth Scientific Paper (KIR) extracurricular activities, minimal assistance, and lack of student motivation in writing scientific papers. The method of implementing this activity uses a participatory approach through the stages of socialization, training, direct assistance, and evaluation and follow-up. The results of the activity show that of the six KIR groups formed, only one group actively communicates and continues online writing consultations. This shows that student enthusiasm still needs to be fostered sustainably with support from supervising teachers and motivation strengthening strategies. However, this activity succeeded in increasing students' knowledge in understanding the structure of scientific papers and scientific presentation techniques. This activity also builds awareness of the importance of scientific literacy from an early age as part of improving the quality of human resources. It is hoped that further assistance can continue to be carried out in order to reactivate KIR activities in schools consistently and sustainably.

Abstract

Biology is a sub-field of natural science that focuses on studying living things, including humans, animals, and plants, and their interactions with the environment. This field is based on ideas that can be felt through the use of scientific methods. In applying scientific methods in Biology learning, synergy between all parts of the brain is absolutely necessary so that learning objectives can be achieved optimally. In the brain there are three ways of thinking, namely rational intelligence, emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence. The three intelligences are divided into two hemispheres of the brain, namely the left brain and the right brain. Learning a field of science that also implicitly must instill hard skills and soft skills, should optimize the function of all parts of the brain to express the three aspects of intelligence. The cooperative learning model is very relevant to optimizing brain function, because there is cooperation to help each other, tolerate each other, and motivate each other so that harmony is created. The humanities aspect in learning also needs to be created. The learning environment also needs to be attempted to create a relaxed, friendly and enjoyable learning situation to be able to optimize the function of the right brain to support the work of the left brain in processing learning materials

Abstract

Abstract. Environment-based learning is learning that emphasizes the environment as a medium or learning resource, can contextualize biological material with the surrounding environment, because biological material is available in abundance in nature, both microscopic and macroscopic material objects. The environment acts as an open laboratory. Scientific literacy is the ability to use scientific knowledge, identify questions, and draw conclusions based on existing evidence in order to understand and make decisions regarding nature and changes made to nature through human activities. Environmentally based Biology learning will be able to improve students' literacy skills through observation, data collection, data analysis and communicating the results of data analysis. Local wisdom (local knowledge, local wisdom) acts as a source of innovation and skills that can be empowered for the welfare of society. Local wisdom related to natural wealth, culture and customs contains a moral message that society always protects natural wealth and traditional traditions so that they do not change with developments over time. The science of biology, which discusses living things, including their varieties, origins, habitat, interactions, utilization and sustainability, has been philosophically reflected in the community's way of life in the form of local wisdom. The purpose of writing this article is to reveal that through environment-based biology learning as a learning resource that is linked to the local wisdom of the community, students will be able to improve the scientific literacy skills and preserve the local wisdom of the local community. This writing method uses a literature review method combined with direct experience in the community. The preservation of the local wisdom of the Balinese people has been carried out through the application of the Tri Hita Karana teachings, which are three causes of prosperity that originate from harmonious relationships which include the relationship between humans and God, humans and the surrounding environment, and humans and each other. The implementation of the Tri Hita Karana teachings is carried out through concrete actions and through the implementation of religious rituals that contain environmental conservation values.

Abstract

Student learning outcomes represent a key indicator of educational success, encompassing positive changes in knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors acquired through instructional processes. However, low motivation and academic achievement in mathematics remain persistent challenges in many schools, including SMA Negeri 1 Mengwi. One promising approach to address these issues is the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model, which actively engages students in inquiry, investigation, and concept construction through real-world problem solving. This study aims to examine the effect of the Problem Based Learning model supported by GeoGebra media on students’ motivation and mathematics learning outcomes in Grade X at SMA Negeri 1 Mengwi during the 2024/2025 academic year. The research employed a quasi-experimental method using a post-test only control group design. Two classes were randomly selected, with one assigned as the experimental group and the other as the control group. Data were collected using a motivation questionnaire and a mathematics achievement test. The results indicate that the application of the PBL model significantly enhances both student motivation and learning outcomes. The experimental group achieved a mean motivation score of 83.8 and a mathematics achievement score of 88.8, compared to 62.2 and 69.7 respectively in the control group. These findings suggest that PBL fosters curiosity, active participation, and deeper conceptual understanding more effectively than conventional teaching methods. Based on these results, the Problem Based Learning model is recommended as an alternative instructional strategy to improve the quality of mathematics education at the senior high school level, particularly in promoting student engagement and academic performance.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the school environment-based Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) learning model on the creativity and biology learning outcomes of class XI students of SMA Negeri 9 Denpasar in the 2024/2025 academic year. The CTL model emphasizes the connection between subject matter and real life, which in this study is based on the school environment. The population of this study was all 11th grade students of SMA Negeri 9, and two classes were sampled, each with 36 students. One class served as the experimental group and the other as the control group. The experimental group was given environment-based CTL learning, while the control group was given conventional learning with material presentation and questions and answers. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and creativity sheets. The research data were analyzed using t-test and MANOVA statistical analysis. Prior to the parametric statistical analysis, prerequisite tests were conducted in the form of normality, validity, and homogeneity tests. The results of the statistical analysis showed that the average learning creativity of the experimental class was 87.75 and learning outcomes were 84.94. Meanwhile, the control class obtained average scores of 78.36 and 72.97, respectively. The MANOVA test showed a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05) and Wilk's Lambda of 0.158, indicating that there was a simultaneous influence of the school-based Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) learning model on students' creativity and biology learning outcomes. These results prove that the school-based CTL model is effective in improving the quality of biology learning at SMA Negeri 9 Denpasar in the 2024/2025 academic year.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupts rabies control activities in the community. A new approach is needed to control rabies during the COVID-19 pandemic through digital health interventions by conducting digital surveillance and education. This study aimed to determine key attitude indicators in controlling rabies during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional study on 166 participants in Denpasar City with a total of 31 indicators measuring five variables: perceptions of the benefits of rabies control (6 indicators), perceptions of rabies risk (6 indicators), perceptions of obstacles to rabies control (5 indicators), perceptions of the need for technology (7 indicators), and attitudes toward rabies control (7 indicators) were analyzed using partial least square-structural equation modeling. The results revealed that 80.7% of participants owned a dog, and sources of rabies information were from social media (45%), the internet (33.7%), and rabies volunteers (33%). The model explained that perception of the benefits of rabies control and the need for technology had a direct effect on attitudes toward rabies control (p-value <0.001 and 0.015). In brief, perceived benefits and the need for technology influence attitudes toward rabies control during the COVID-19 pandemic.
