Abstract

One of the purposes of learning English as a foreign language (EFL) is to be able to communicate. The Students must have communicative competence that does not only consist of linguistic competencies, but also socio-cultural ones. This paper aims to analyse the cultural themes of politeness strategies in EFL Classroom. The research in this paper focused on directive and expressive speech acts in EFL classroom. The participants of this study are three lecturers and the students of three English classes. The data are gathered by video audio by recording the lecturers’ utterances and students’ compliances to the lecturer, in order to find the politeness strategies and the cultural values in EFL classroom. The results show that; 1) There are seven kinds of cultural values of politeness strategies in EFL classroom, such as glorifying God, agreement, apologising, questioning, delivering praise, delivering thank you, and praying for others, 2) The lecturers and students dominantly use agreement and questioning in EFL Classroom. Thereby, this issue is relevant to EFL classes focusing on the improvement of both lecturers and students’ language and cultural skill. The analytical tool refers to the theories of Brown and Levinson’s positive and negative politeness, and the ethnography of communication method. The findings of this study will probably give insights into the pragmatic and conversational rules of EFL. The last part of this paper aims at summarizing that the implications that this paper are relevant to the strategies of teaching English as a Foreign Language.

Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui agresivitas tokoh dalam novel Jazz,Parfum, dan Insiden karya Seno Gumira Ajidarma dari pendekatan psikologisastra. Penelitian ini dilakukan bulan September 2016 hingga Juli 2017.Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metodeanalisis isi, dan sumbernya adalah novel Jazz, Parfum, dan Insiden. Jenisagresivitas yang paling banyak ditemukan adalah agresivitas langsung-aktifnonverbalsejumlah 91 (75,2%) data yang berupa tindakan merugikan orang lainsecara langsung. Kemudian tujuan agresivitas yang paling menonjol sebanyak 7(70%) data, tujuan agresivitas tersebut untuk menghentikan perilaku yang tidaksesuai, tujuan ini bukan untuk menyakiti korban. Lalu, sebab munculnyaagresivitas yang paling besar adalah faktor provokasi, provokasi terjadi karenaberbagai pihak saling memanasi sehingga agresi muncul, faktor provokasi iniditemukan sebanyak 3 (75%) data. Lalu dampak agresi yang menonjol dalampenelitian ini adalah kematian, kematian terjadi karena agresi sudah terlalu parah.Dampak kematian ditemukan sebanyak 12 (42,8%) data. Yang terakhir solusimengurangi agresi paling banyak ditemukan adalah hukuman, seperti dipenjara,ditahan sebanyak 9 (90%) data. Dalam novel Jazz, Parfum, dan Insiden terdapatnilai-nilai positif untuk membangkitkan pandangan pembaca terhadap kehidupannyata, khususnya mengenai rasa empati, simpati pada sesama manusia.Kata kunci: Agresivitas, Tokoh, Novel, Seno Gumira Ajidarma. AbstrackThis research is purposed to analysze the character’s aggresiveness from Jazz,Parfum, and Insiden, a novel by Seno Gumira Ajidarma. This research has startedat September 2016 and end at July 2017. By using content analysis for it ismethod, this kind of research is qualitative research, on the based Jazz, Parfum,and Insiden. Some type of aggressiveness oftenly found in this research is kind ofdirect-active-nonverbal, amount 91 (75,2%) data which is such action thatdirectly disserving people. Then the dominant purposes of aggressiveness is amount 7 (70%) data, this kind of aggressiveness takes order to stopunappropriate behaviour, not to harm victims. Then the biggest cause ofaggressiveness is based on provocative factors, that appears as if each side ofgroups keep provoking and raise aggression up. There are 3 (75%) datas amountthis factor. Then the most dominant influence of aggression in this research is thedeath caused by highly ruthless aggression. This kind of death influence is amount12 (42,8%) data. The last is the mostly solution found to ease aggressiveness ispunishment, which are imprisoned or arrested, amount 9 (90%) datas of them. Inthe Jazz, Parfum, and Insiden novel, there are positive values to raise up thereaders perspective about reality, some of them are especially empathy, andsympathy among human beings.Keywords: aggressiveness, aggression, character, novel, Seno Gumira Ajidarma.

Abstract

AbstractThe objective of this research is developing the skills of writing paragraph through the model of cooperative learning with jigsaw technique. The objects of this study were the students of Islamic state high school 2 Kota Serang on the XI grade of language program in the second semester academic year 2015/2016 amounting to 32 students.The instrument of data collection was early test, questioner, observation, collaborator arguments and final test and the technique of data analysis were descriptive quantitative and descriptive qualitative techniques. This research was an action research with 3 cycles and each cycle consist of threemeetings. At the end of each learning cycle each student was given an individual writing test and the results of this test become the basis of the success of a research action. The results of activities in this study stated that there is an increase both in process and improvement of student learning outcome.This is evidenced by the student’s writing results from average increase obtained from the first cycle to the third cycle.Teaching using cooperative learning model with jigsaw technique is an effective and appropriate learning model and it can maximize the learning outcome, one of them is improving the skill of writing German paragraph.Key words : skills of writing paragraph, cooperative learning model, jigsaw

Abstract

Abstract Many factors make quality education or not. These factors include the professionalism of educators, educational inputs both in the form of student input and facilities (infrastructure input), learning process, environment and others. This paper attempts to confirm the process of improving students' speaking skills on English subjects through cooperative learning of Jigsaw models on students in X Class of MIA SMA Negeri 2 DKI Jakarta. The subjects were 108 students studying speaking English The subjects then were randomly assigned into experimental group and control group The experiment lasted for nine weeks started with pre-test in the beginning and ended with a post - test in the last meeting. During the treatment, the teacher applied planning, drafting, revising and editing stages in learning. The result shows Learning outcomes in students, especially speaking skills in students in SMA Negeri 2 DKI Jakarta has increased. This is evident through the experiments on cycles I and II both for class 10 Mipa 1, from the mean of 70.9167 to 84.2778. class 10 Mipa 2, from the average 71.8056 to 86.2222 and for class 10 Mipa 3 from the average 70.5833 to the average 84.2222 so that the total increase during applying the Jigsaw type cooperative learning model from the initial value. Abstract

ABSTRACT The connection of nature with literary works raises concepts about ecological problems in literature among literary critics. Many environmental problems that occur at this time. Through poetry, fairy tales and other literary works, the writers mention this in their works. Ecocritic has a basic paradigm that every object can be seen in ecological networks, and ecology can be a helpful science in this critical approach. Environmental insight can be obtained through a literary work. Some writers in Indonesia make nature and the environment a prominent part of their works. In addition to literary works such as poetry and novels, fairy tales have first explored nature. In fairy tales, nature is described as the place of life of the characters. That way, fairy tales indirectly invite the audience to come into contact with environmental insights that need to be studied and applied in everyday life. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to improve the Arabic reading skills of fourth grade of SDIT Segar Amanah students through the Look and Say technique. The subjects of this research were 32 students of fourth grade SDIT Segar Amanah. This research used a Classroom Action Research method with a model from Kemmis and Mc Taggart which consisted of planning, acting and observing, and reflecting throughout 2 cycles. The data was collected using test and observation guidelines for teaching and learning activities and observation guidelines for teacher and student. This research shows that the Look .and Say technique can improve students' reading skills in Arabic with the difference in the results of the pre-test, post-test cycle 1 and post-test cycle 2 with the class average score in the pre-test is 49.5. Then the average score results in the post test cycle 1 was 67.2 and the result of the class average score in the post-test 2 was 78.3. Keywords : Arabic Reading Skills, Look and Say

Abstract

This study aims to scrutinize the utilization both of visual and written language toward the billboard of legislative candidates in the general election 2019. The sources of the data are 2 billboards from 9 parties winning the general election 2019 in Indonesia and the data that has been taken by the researchers are slogans and photos which have been deployed on the billboards. This qualitative research uses the method of descriptive analysis. On billboard 1 (Golkar), the dominance of the persuasive discourse is a wise clause which has been deployed to build a good reputation about legislative candidates. Meanwhile on billboard 2 (PKS), the dominance is the invitation which indicated that the legislative candidates directly invited the people to choose them. Through the visual and written language, the legislative candidates showed their identities strongly. Briefly, these billboards which showed in this research contained the strong persuasive language which combined both of written and visual languages. Keywords: Language, Persuasive, Visual, Parties

Abstract

This research aims for knowing the impact toward the strategies of learning such as mobile learning and the mastery of visual learning toward the ability students about German vocabulary. This research is using quantitative and method of experiment with analysis Anava two lines. The sample of this research using random sampling as the result, it can be determined with two groups of sample at class XI SMA Negeri 1 Maros that are class XI IPA 1 as the class which used as experiment and XI IPA 2 as control class. The result of this research shows that there are the impact significantly toward the mastery of German language between the group of learning strategy mobile learning Lern Deutsch Goethe Institut and Instagram to the learning visual style of student. From this analysis it can be concluded that the value Qcount A1B-A2B = 4.33. From the table of Critical Value Q (Tukey) with α = 0.05, k = 4 and n = 11 Related to the value of Qtable (0.05; 4; 11) = 4.26. Because Qcount A1B-A2B = 4.33> Qtable = 4.26 or H0 is rejected, the mastery of the German language for groups of students who are given by the strategy of learning from Mobile Learning Lern Deutsch Goethe Institute and the student who has a learning visual style more higher (33,36) than the group of students who are given by the strategy of learning with Mobile learning Instagram (29.64) who has a learning visual style. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh strategi pembelajaran mobile learning dan gaya belajar visual terhadap penguasaan kosakata bahasa jerman siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode eksperimen mengguanakan analisis Anava dua jalur. Sampel penelitian menggunakan random sampling sehingga dapat ditentukan dua kelompok sampel di Kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Maros yaitu kelas XI IPA 1 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan XI IPA 2 sebagai kelas kontrol. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan: bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan pada penguasaan bahasa Jerman antara kelompok startegi pembelajaran mobile learning Lern Deutsch Goethe Institut dan Instagram terhadap gaya belajar visual siswa. Dari hasil analisis diketahui bahwa nilai Qhitung A1B-A2B = 4,33. Dari tabel Critical Values Of Q (Tukey) dengan α = 0,05, k = 4 dan n = 11 diketahui nilai Qtabel (0,05; 4; 11) = 4,26. Karena Qhitung A1B-A2B = 4,33 > Qtabel = 4,26 atau H0 ditolak, maka penguasaan bahasa Jerman kelompok siswa yang diberi strategi pembelajaran Mobile Learning Lern Deutsch Goethe Institut dan yang memiliki gaya belajar visual lebih tinggi (33,36) daripada kelompok siswa yang diberi strategi pembelajaran Mobile Learning Instagram (29,64) yang memiliki gaya belajar visual. Abstract

The objectives of the research are to determine the effects of teaching methods (STAD and jigsaw) and learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) on students’ English achievement. This research is an experimental study conducted at Junior High School Pasangkayu in 2014 with 213 sample which is selected stratified-randomly (n = 68). The results of the research are as follow: (1) English achievement of students taught with STAD is better than those of taught with jigsaw; (2) there is no significant difference in  English achievement among visual, auditory, and kinesthetic students; (3) there is any significant effect of interaction among teaching method and learning styles on students’ learning English achievement. The research also find out that for visual students, studying English achievement of students taught with STAD is better than that of students taught with jigsaw; for auditory students, learning English achievement  of students taught with jigsaw is better than that of students taught with STAD; and for kinesthetic students, English achievement of students taught with STAD is better than that of students taught with jigsaw. To sum up, STAD is more effective than jigsaw in improving students’ English achievement. STAD is suitable to improve English achievement of visual and kinesthetic students, and jigsaw is suitable to improve English achievement of auditory students.

Abstract

Law of the Republic of Indonesia no. 4 Year 2009 about the language states that the local government must develop, foster, and protect the local languages and literature in order to continue to fulfill their position and function in the life of society in accordance with the development of the era performed gradually, systematically and sustainably by local governments under the coordination of linguistic institutions, and to remain part of Indonesia's cultural treasures. Based on the Cirebon preliminary observation result, it is threatened with extinction because its speakers are fewer and rarely even do not use Cirebon language in their daily intercourse, although in the last few years there are lessons in Cirebon - Dermayu. This is because the lesson is just as a science. That is, even though the learners’ report is good value, eg 9 (nine), but in the daily association does not use Cirebon language. Therefore, researchers intend to examine the Cirebon language with the title - Cirebon Language Revitalization Through Cirebon Language Learning. This research generally aims to obtain a deep picture and understanding of Cirebon language revitalization in Cirebon City, while its long-term goal is to obtain findings about efforts to preserve the Cirebon language in order to remain functional for life in the city of Cirebon in the midst of the widespread use of Language Indonesia as the national language in the country of the Republic of Indonesia, so as to assist the government in developing, fostering and protecting local languages and literature in accordance with the laws described above. The method used in this research is Ethnography with Spradley research procedure. The results of this study are expected to be a reference in improving the textbook Language Cirebon and refine the policy to preserve the language of Cirebon in order to explore the noble values of local wisdom it contains.
