Abstract

This study examines a compelling linguistic phenomenon within the social and political spheres: the use of dark humor—specifically, identifying the forms and meanings of harsh expressions (sarcasm) employed by Kiki Saputri. The research addresses the following issues: (1) the forms of dark humor used by Kiki Saputri in Episode 14 of Kaesang Pangarep’s YouTube channel; (2) the meanings conveyed through these dark humor expressions; and (3) the relevance of the findings to Indonesian language education. A descriptive method with a stylistic approach was employed. The data consisted of Kiki Saputri’s utterances containing dark humor on Kaesang Pangarep’s YouTube channel. Data were gathered using documentation, listening, and note-taking techniques, and subsequently analyzed using linguistic theory through the steps of identification, classification, interpretation of meaning, and conclusion drawing. The results reveal three primary forms of dark humor used by Kiki Saputri: sarcasm, irony, and cynicism. Sarcasm was the most dominant form, accounting for 33 instances in the data. These stylistic devices serve to create comedic effects, convey social and political criticism, and raise audience awareness regarding sensitive issues such as political dynasties, social inequality, and the behavior of political elites. The meanings conveyed include mockery, innuendo, and criticism. Regarding its relevance to Indonesian language education, the study offers insights into teaching stylistic devices, figures of speech, and meaning analysis within the context of humorous texts and social commentary.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of Baamboozle media in learning assessment of identifying the structure of observation report texts, describe the learning outcomes of eighth-grade students at SMPN 13 Tibawa, and identify the factors affecting its implementation. This descriptive qualitative research was conducted at SMP Negeri 13 Tibawa during the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The research subjects involved 1 Indonesian language teacher and all eighth-grade students as informants and data samples. Data collection instruments used included activity observation sheets, interview guides, and quiz assessment documentation. The data analysis tool applied Miles and Huberman’s interactive technique. The results showed that the use of Baamboozle media was considered capable of creating an interactive formative assessment atmosphere and increasing student participation. Based on the evaluation results, all groups (100%) achieved the competent category with final scores ranging from 85 to 100. The main supporting factors were attractive visualization and ease of access, while the inhibiting factors were dominated by internet network connectivity constraints in the classroom area.

Abstract

Formal speaking tasks in Indonesian language classrooms may still generate anxiety because students must organize ideas, speak before teachers and peers, avoid mistakes, and meet assessment expectations. This study examined the relationship between speaking anxiety and students’ self-perceived speaking ability in Indonesian language learning. Self-perceived speaking ability refers to students’ self-assessment of oral performance, not a direct teacher or researcher rating. Using a quantitative correlational design, the study involved 203 tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Gorontalo. Data were collected through two 1–5 Likert-scale questionnaires measuring speaking anxiety and self-perceived speaking ability. The instruments were reviewed by three expert validators and judged feasible with minor revision. Descriptive statistics, normality testing, and Spearman correlation were used to analyze the data. The results showed moderate speaking anxiety (M = 3.284, SD = 0.709) and moderate self-perceived speaking ability (M = 3.281, SD = 0.498). Spearman correlation indicated a significant negative association, rho = -0.335, 95% CI [-0.46, -0.20], p < 0.001. Thus, students with higher speaking anxiety tended to evaluate their speaking ability less positively. Because the study was correlational and self-reported, the findings should not be interpreted as causal evidence. The findings suggest the need for gradual speaking practice, clear assessment criteria, constructive feedback, and guided self-reflection.
