Abstract

Dumai city has excellent potential in agriculture sector. Vegetables production in Dumai City in the last five years has fluctuated. The common problems faced by vegetable farmers in Dumai City are pests and diseases, floods, and land tenure. The objective of this study is to analyze the efficiency of vegetables production in Dumai City. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) which is nonparametric method based on linear programming was used to answer the objective of this study. The main findings of this study indicate: firstly, most vegetable farming has been technically efficient, this is because the farming cultivation techniques done by the farmers are in accordance with its purpose. Secondly, most vegetable farming in Dumai City is inefficiently allocative, this is because the excessive use of input, especially in the use of organic fertilizers, and the high ratio of input prices to output prices which is also the cause of allocative inefficiency. Thirdly, vegetable farming in Dumai City is mostly inefficient economically. The government should develop local specific cultivation techniques because the cultivation technique used by farmers is still equivalent to the provincial level, there is no local specific cultivation technique. Besides that, it is necessary to control the increases of input price and the increases of the vegetable selling price that affect to the increases of farmers’ income.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia is the largest natural rubber producer in the world after Thailand. Indonesia was ranked second in the world in terms of production, and ranked first in terms of land area. Beside Thailand, the main competitor of indonesia’s natural rubber in the international market comes from Malaysia. Observing that it carried out a study with the aim to analyze the response of supply and demand for Indonesia’s natural rubber in the international market. This study uses econometric approach, simultaneous equation model, using two stages least square method. The main results of this study indicate that the supply and demand for Indonesia natural rubber. Thailand is a country that is decisive in the formation of the world’s natural rubber prices from the supply side. This is closely related to the Thai government that consistently develop natural rubber from the upstream to the downstream. In Indonesia, there is the impression the government’s attention is diverted to the development of palm oil. Thus, to develop natural rubber in Indonesia is required to stabilize natural rubber prices through increased raw material quality of natural rubber both at the level of people’s plantations and large estates. In addition, the downstream industrial policy, particularly natural rubber processing industry, which had been launched a few years ago, needs to be consistently implemented by the Indonesia  government.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the efficiency of vegetable production. This research uses Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method which is the non-parametric method based on Linear Programming. The survey results show that vegetable farmers in Siak Regency have not done standard cultivation techniques. Most vegetable farms use excessive production factors. Based on the analysis of production efficiency can be concluded that: First, most vegetable farming is not technically efficient, because the farming techniques that farmers do not match the standard cultivation techniques. Second, most vegetable farming is also inefficiently allocative, due to the excessive use of inputs, especially in the use of seeds and the use of inorganic fertilizers and the high ratio of input prices to output prices. Third, most technically inefficient and allocative vegetable farms indicate that most vegetable farming is not economically efficient. Economically efficient vegetable farming system can be realized with government assistance to support farmers to make vegetable farming in accordance with the standards of vegetable farming techniques. Furthermore, it is necessary to control the input price and increase the output price.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) analysis the factors affecting production, allocation of work time, income and household expenditure coconut sugar agro-industry entrepreneurs. (2) analysis the impact of changes in economic policy related to the development of coconut sugar agro-industry to the economic decision-making household. Econometric approach with simultaneous equation models were analyzed by Two Stages Least Square method. The results showed that: (1) coconut sugar production is affected by the allocation of working time on coconut sugar agro-industry businesses. (2) The allocation of working time on the business affected by the age of the entrepreneur and the availability of capital. (3) The allocation of family labor time and the availability of capital is the main factor that determines the changes in household income entrepreneurs. Abstract

Determining key sector is important because can be pass economic development of Riau. This research use linkage analysis by utilizing the indices forward linkage and backward linkage obtained from the multiplier matrices of Input-Output Table. The results of the analysis find eight sectors as the key sectors. This is indicated by their value ofbackward linkage and forward linkage which are higher than the average linkage of the whole economic sectors. Those eight sectors are rice, soy bean, another beans, other plantation crops, palm oil and animal oil, pulp, crumb rubber and smoke rubber, transportation and communication. These commodities should be developed so that can be increase economic of Riau, but does not rule out the possibility of the another sectors to be developed. Research in inter-sectoral linkage may obtain the strength of one particular sectorin influencing other sectors for actively contributing to the Riau economy. However, I-O analysis possessed limitation that prevents the key sectors to be used for long-term policy consideration. Consequently, agriculture development should not continuously depend on the key sectors. More over, it should also develop the potency of other sectors so that agriculture sector would become the key sector of the Riau development as a whole, not partially.

Abstract

Indonesia is second largest country producer of natural rubber, and widest land in the world. Considerations in development of these commodity can be seen from response of supply and demand on various factors. This study aims to analyze supply and demand response of Indonesia natural rubber. Therefore, this study develop simultaneous equations model with Two Stage Least Square method. This study indicate predetermined variables which significantly respect to supply and demand Indonesia natural rubber are domestic natural rubber price, ratio of domestic natural rubber price and synthetic rubber price, and lag variable of Indonesia natural rubber production, demand, price, and export. There are no predetermined variables which responsive respect to Indonesia natural rubber supply and demand. However predetermined variables have large response to supply and demand; i.e. price of Indonesia natural rubber and synthetic rubber price in the world. This study recommended to Indonesia government to hold of higher Indonesia natural rubber price by increasing of Indonesia natural rubber quality products, and to develop downstream rubber industry seriously.
