Abstract

These findings are useful for evaluating the impact of the Discovery Learning (DL) model on students' mathematical problem-solving skills. This was conducted using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Of the 30 articles found, 19 were selected based on topic relevance and publication years 2021–2025. The findings demonstrate that the use of problem-solving models has a positive impact on students' analytical skills, conceptual understanding, learning interest, creativity, and activeness. Combined with learning media, tailored to learning styles, and considering student characteristics such as resilience and personality, DL increases its effectiveness. Furthermore, recent research shows that DL is relevant for application across various teaching materials and educational levels. Furthermore, DL has the ability to overcome the shortcomings of conventional approaches, which tend to be passive. Therefore, Problem Solving Skills can be used as a useful alternative teaching module to help students acquire mathematical skills appropriate to the modern era.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Numeracy is a crucial competence for students to apply mathematics in real-life situations. This study aims to comprehensively profile the numeracy skills of junior high school students, considering the existing gap between the importance of numeracy and students' actual proficiency in the field. The research method employed was descriptive research with a quantitative approach. This study involved a sample of 33 eighth-grade students at SMPN 71 Jakarta. The instrument used was a two-item essay test designed to measure three key indicators: (1) the application of number concepts, (2) the analysis of visual information, and (3) the interpretation of results for drawing conclusions. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results indicate that the students' numeracy skills are at a very concerning level, with an average score of only 6.36 out of a maximum score of 20. These findings can provide a strong data foundation for educators to design more targeted learning interventions.   ABSTRAK: Kemampuan numerasi merupakan kompetensi krusial bagi siswa untuk mengaplikasikan matematika dalam kehidupan nyata. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menyusun profil kemampuan numerasi siswa SMP secara komprehensif, mengingat adanya kesenjangan antara pentingnya numerasi dan penguasaan siswa di lapangan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Penelitian ini melibatkan sampel sebanyak 33 siswa kelas VIII di salah satu SMPN daerah Cempaka Putih, Jakarta Pusat. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes esai sebanyak 2 butir soal untuk mengukur tiga indikator utama: (1) penerapan konsep bilangan, (2) analisis informasi visual, dan (3) interpretasi hasil untuk pengambilan kesimpulan. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan numerasi siswa berada pada tingkat yang sangat memprihatinkan, dengan skor rata-rata hanya 6,36 dari total skor ideal 20. Hasil penelitian ini dapat menyediakan landasan data yang kuat bagi pendidik untuk merancang intervensi pembelajaran yang lebih tepat sasaran.
