Abstract

Background: Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata) is one type of plant that is widely consumed by the people of Indonesia. In addition, pumpkin is often found in traditional markets and supermarkets. Pumpkin contains nutrients that are beneficial to the human body, including -carotene, which is a carotenoid compound. Beta carotene is a provitamin A, it is very useful as an antioxidant, boosting the immune system and treating various diseases. Beta carotene is unstable, especially at high temperatures. Objective: This study aims to determine how pumpkin processing can affect beta carotene levels with the analytical Method: methods used, namely qualitative with Thin Layer Chromatography and quantitative with UV-Vis Spectrophotometry with a wavelength of 448 nm. Result: The results of the qualitative analysis of the positive samples contained beta-carotene compounds. Quantitative results of beta carotene levels of raw yellow pumpkin 34.1849 mg/g, quantitative results of beta carotene levels of steamed pumpkin 29.5544 mg/g, and quantitative results of beta carotene levels of boiled yellow pumpkin 18.0759 mg/g. The results of the validity test obtained linearity r = 0.9997, raw pumpkin filtrate RSD 0.4686%, and steamed pumpkin filtrate 0.6158%, and boiled pumpkin filtrate 3.1446%, raw pumpkin filtrate recovery 103.19% , steamed pumpkin filtrate 101.77%, and boiled pumpkin filtrate 105.27%, LOD 2.5633 and LOQ 7.676 . The results of SPSS analysis with ONE WAY ANOVA statistics showed that p = 0.000 (p <0.05), and this indicated that there was an effect of processing on beta carotene levels on the average beta carotene levels in pumpkin. And Based on the results of the research that has been done, it can be concluded that UV-Vis Spectrophotometry can be used to determine the beta carotene content of pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata).

Abstract

In general, people use plant parts which include roots, bark, leaves, flowers or seeds as medicinal ingredients. Chinese ketepeng (Cassia alata L.) is one of the plants that is often used by the community as traditional medicine. This Chinese ketepeng plant is known as the wax tree, wax bush and ringworm plant. Chinese ketepeng leaf is one part that is often used by the community to treat skin infections caused by fungi, such as tinea versicolor, ringworm, thrush, water fleas and others. Tannins are organic compounds that are very complex and consist of phenolic compounds found in various plants. Tannins are considered as a group of compounds that attract applications in terms of potency and environmental prediction. The analytical method used is qualitative using FeCl3 reagent, gelatin and Folin Ciocalteu, while quantitative testing is using UV-Vis spectrophotometry with a wavelength of 725 nm with gallic acid as a comparison raw material. The results of the qualitative analysis of the positive samples contained tannins. The quantitative results of the ethanol extract of Chinese ketepeng leaves were 8.71 mg/g. Based on the results of research that has been carried out, tannin compounds in the ethanol extract of the leaves of the Chinese Ketepeng (Cassia Alata L.) can be determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometry using gallic acid as a standard.

Abstract

One of the medicinal plants found in Indonesia is the matoa plant (Pometia pinnata). This matoa plant is a typical plant from Papua and has spread widely in Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, Maluku and the island of Sumbawa. This matoa plant is known to contain flavonoid compounds which are proven to have high pharmacological effects as antioxidants, antibacterial and antifungal agents. Flavonoids are compounds that can be found in green plants that have bioactive effects such as antiviral and anti-inflammatory. The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of flavonoids in the leaf extract of matoa (pometia pinnata) using the uv-vis spectrophotometric method. The method used in this research is experimental, including sampling, processing phytochemical screening samples and making matoa leaf extract. Matoa leaf simplicia was extracted using maceration method using 96% ethanol. In this study, validation of analytical methods with parameters, namely linearity, accuracy, precision, LOD & LOQ uses uv-vis spectrophotometry with a wavelength of 435nm. The results obtained from the correlation coefficient (r) = 0.9977, the results obtained from the accuracy test were 99.92% with requirements (90%-110%), The results from the precision test obtained RSD/Kv of 0.366 % and the LOD value of 2.6802 ppm and LOQ of 8.9341 ppm. The results of determining the flavonoid content of matoa leaf extract (Pometia pinnata) were obtained with a value of 67.0207 mgQE/g Extract.
