Abstract

Technology growing rapidly because technological development is required in all aspects of humanlife. Biotechnology is one of the branch of biology that is constantly evolving. Health andpharmaceutical biotechnology is one of the biotechnology which became the spotlight of the world.Biotechnology is part of science that commences from curiosity. One of curiosity type is epistemiccuriosity (EC). Epistemic curiosity contribute to give problem solving for the appearing issue. Thisneed higher order thinking. Higher order thinking need good cognitive understanding. The purpose ofthis study is to: 1) describe the epistemic curiosity (EC) Biology’ student to the development of healthand pharmaceutical biotechnology, 2) analyzing the correlation of epistemic curiosity (EC) andcognitive ability of biology’ student in health and pharmaceutical biotechnology. This researchincludes descriptive correlative with the research data is a cognitive understanding and EC ofbiology’ student. Cognitive understanding and EC data taken using a questionnaire (i-d scalecuriosity) and problem (the quiz). Average of EC scores is 26,1. A descriptive analysis of the averageEC is of 65.3% (high category). The average of student's cognitive understanding is 38.8%. (lowcategory). Quantitative correlation of cognitive understanding and EC was 0,208 (weak category).Qualitative correlation of cognitive understanding and EC was J category, that have a high EC butlow cognitive understanding.

Abstract

Biology learning in SMA N 2 Batang still emphasized cognitive ability, has not yet oriented on the development of student skill of science process. The purpose of this research is to analyze theimplementation of practicum methods with guided-discovery model on students skill of science process. This research is Pre-Experimental with Pre-Test and Post Test Group Design. The sample was determined by purposive sampling, X MIPA 1 and X MIPA 2 as experiment class-1 and -2. The results obtained from the test and non-test. The result of skill of science process test was analyzed by N-gain. The average of N-gain test results from the experimental class is 11,4% in high category, 64,3% in medium category, and 24,3% in low category. Analysis of post-test result and student observation resulted in good category. The success of this method implementation in MIPA 1 is 95,15% and MIPA 2 is 88,9% with very high category. Students and teachers respond well to the implementation of practicum method with guided-discovery model. In conclusion the implementation of practicum method with guided-discovery model of environmental change material can develop student skill of science process in observing, classifyng, predicting, measuring, concluding, and communicating aspects.

Abstract

Critical thinking has an essential role in the development of 21st-century skills to form students who have a deep understanding of the subject being studied. The use of portfolio assessment is believed to be a means of mastering a subject. This study was aimed to analyze whether the implementation of portfolio assessment in Biology learning in human coordination systems material can improve students' critical thinking skills. This study used a pretest and posttest control group design. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the means posttest score of students' critical thinking skills in the experimental class was 78.28, and the control class was 63.36. The Independent Sample T-Test showed a significant mean difference between the experimental class and the control class. The improvement of critical thinking skills by implementing portfolio assessment was better than the control class. The regression test showed that the contribution of the portfolio assessment to the improvement of critical thinking skills was 19.1%. The results of the analysis showed that the portfolio assessment distributed students in three categories of critical thinking skills were 59.4% in the enough category, 31.3% in the good category, and 9.4% in the very good category. The conclusion is that the implementation of portfolio assessment has a positive effect on increasing students' critical thinking skills in the human coordination system material.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are important skills in the 21st century, therefore their attainment needs to be measured to determine future steps in the learning process so that they can be improved. This study aims to describe the critical thinking skills of students after learning with Project Based Learning (PjBL) integrated Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic (STEM). This research was conducted with a mix-method approach and a concurrent triangulation strategy. Data collection uses test essay to measure aspects of critical thinking skills including aspects of elementary clarification, basic support, inference, adavanced clarification, and aspect strategy and tactics. Furthermore, the results were analyzed by descriptive analysis. The results showed that the achievement of each aspect of critical thinking skills showed variations. The aspect of elementary clarification score 71.01 in high category, basic support score 72.54 in high category, the inference score 74.65 in high category, adavanced clarification score 58.49 in moderate category, and the aspect of strategy and tactics scored 82.83 in very high category. These results indicate the average critical thinking skills of students in PjBL STEM learning environmental change material on high category.

Abstract

The National Science Olympic (OSN) is a prestigious event in the world of education organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture ( Kemendikbud ). OSN is implemented with the aim of facilitating and motivating students who have talent in the field of science, so that they can improve their abilities and select students to the international level . The good achievements of Indonesian sons and daughters in academia provide promising Human Resources (HR) solutions. However few students are aware of and interested to participate and compete with other academic institutions at national level even in the midst of international. The module is a supporting medium for the preparation of the selection of candidates for the regency level high school science olympic participants. The development of a question-based module for high school biology olympic is expected to improve school human resources to involve students in various national and international competitions. The results showed that "Problem Based Module Development as a Preparation for Selection of Science Olympic Participants in Biology for High School Level" found three findings. First, a module based on biology olympic questions is valid for use in the learning process based on validation by material experts and media experts with a percentage of 86% with very valid criteria. Second , the module based on biology olympic questions is effectively used to improve student learning outcomes seen from the N-gain value of 0.70 high criteria. Third, the module based on the SMA biology Olympic questions is practically used by teachers and students, based on the results of the teacher's response assessment of 93%, the criteria are very feasible to facilitate the task of the teacher in preparing lesson plans, facilitate the implementation of learning, and make it easier to evaluate student learning outcomes. The student response is 85.2%. The criteria are very suitable for students to use both in terms of good presentation, easy to understand, and can increase learning motivation and interest in participating in the Olympics .
