Abstract

This study aims to analyze digital politeness among university students in academic WhatsApp communication with lecturers at Universitas PGRI Sumenep. The research is grounded in the changing landscape of academic communication, where digital interaction increasingly replaces face-to-face exchanges, raising new challenges in maintaining politeness and professional etiquette. A descriptive survey design was employed with 20 purposively selected students as participants. Data were collected through a Google Form questionnaire consisting of five dimensions: linguistic politeness strategies, digital communication etiquette, perception of power and distance, cultural and contextual sensitivity, and self-reflection on digital behavior. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean, SD, frequency) and qualitative thematic analysis of open-ended responses. The results indicate that students exhibit a high level of digital politeness (M = 4.17, SD = 0.43). The highest dimension was cultural and contextual sensitivity (M = 4.48), showing that traditional values of respect and humility remain strong in digital communication. Students consistently used greetings, expressions of gratitude, and apology markers in their WhatsApp messages to lecturers. However, hierarchical awareness appeared more flexible, reflecting a shift from formality-based to relationship-based politeness. These findings extend Brown and Levinson’s (1987) politeness theory into the domain of digital pragmatics, emphasizing that technology does not diminish politeness but reshapes it to fit new communicative contexts. The study recommends that universities incorporate digital communication ethics training into academic literacy programs to foster respectful and effective online interaction.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve elementary students’ mathematics achievement through the integration of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and Talintar (Smart Multiplication Table) media. A Classroom Action Research (CAR) design was implemented in two cycles involving 21 fourth-grade students at SDN Sapeken VIII, Sumenep, Indonesia. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through written tests, classroom observations, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods. Results indicated a steady improvement in learning outcomes, with the mean score rising from 57.57 in the pre-cycle to 68.48 in Cycle I and 85.90 in Cycle II. The proportion of students achieving the mastery criterion (≥70) increased from 19% to 100%, yielding an N-gain of 0.67 (medium-to-high improvement) and a large effect size (d ≈ 2.3). Qualitative observations revealed higher engagement, motivation, and confidence among students during the intervention. The findings confirm that integrating PBL with Talintar media effectively enhances conceptual understanding, problem-solving ability, and student participation. This model demonstrates that combining inquiry-based pedagogy with contextual visual media offers a sustainable and scalable approach to improving mathematics learning within Indonesia’s Kurikulum Merdeka framework.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the application of the probing prompting model assisted by articulate storyline media in improving elementary school students' understanding of natural science concepts. The research design used a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design with a control group and an experimental group. The research subjects were 70 elementary school students, where 35 students were in the experimental group and 35 students were in the control group. Data collection was done using multiple-choice tests. Data analysis was carried out using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, the Levene homogeneity test, the independent sample t-test, and the N-gain test. The results showed that students who learned using the probing prompting model assisted by articulate storyline media obtained significantly higher learning outcomes than students who learned with conventional learning. The average posttest score and the N-gain value of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group, and the results of the independent sample t-test showed a significant difference (p <0.05). These findings indicate that the application of the probing prompting model supported by interactive media is effective in improving student learning outcomes.

Abstract

The use of interactive learning media is increasingly popular as a solution to improve student learning outcomes. However, limited research is still exploring the influence of game-based learning media, such as Kahoot, at the elementary school level, especially in the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subject. This study aims to test the effect of using Kahoot on the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students in the IPAS subject at SD Negeri Larangan Barma 1. The method used was an experiment with a pre-test and post-test design involving two groups of students: the experimental group using Kahoot and the control group using conventional learning methods. The results showed that Kahoot significantly improved student learning outcomes compared to the control group. These findings support the theories of constructivism and intrinsic motivation and indicate that game-based learning media can increase student motivation and engagement in learning. The practical implications of this study are that integrating digital learning media such as Kahoot can be an effective alternative to improve learning outcomes in elementary schools. However, challenges related to infrastructure and the digital divide need to be considered in its implementation. Further research with larger samples and extended periods is required to confirm these findings.

Abstract

Science education in elementary schools faces challenges in teaching complex and abstract materials, such as food chains, which require deep visual and conceptual understanding. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using web-based genetic media in improving students' understanding of food chain material in science learning in elementary schools. This study used a quasi-experimental design with two groups: the experimental group using web-based Genially Media and the control group using conventional learning methods. Data were obtained through pre-tests and post-tests measured by objective test instruments. The results showed that the experimental group experienced a significant increase in understanding, with an average N-gain of 0.66, while the control group only obtained an N-gain of 0.29. The t-test confirmed that the difference between the experimental and control groups was significant (p = 0.000). These findings indicate that web-based genetic media improves students' understanding of food chain material. The implications of this study provide a basis for the application of web-based technology in science learning in elementary schools and encourage the development of more interesting and effective interactive learning methods. This study also suggests further research with stronger experimental designs and larger samples.

Abstract

Mathematics learning outcomes, especially geometry, at the elementary school level still show a low level of understanding due to a less contextual and abstract learning approach. This study examines the effect of using traditional snacks as a medium for ethnomathematics-based geometry learning on student learning outcomes. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The research sample consisted of 30 fourth-grade students divided into experimental and control groups through purposive sampling. The research instrument was a geometry learning outcome test composed of 20 questions that had been validated and tested for reliability. Data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests with t-tests. The results showed a significant difference between the experimental and control student learning outcomes, with the experimental group obtaining a much higher average post-test score. These findings strengthen the theory of constructivism and support the ethnomathematics approach in elementary mathematics learning. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of integrating local culture in the development of learning media to increase student engagement and deepen their conceptual understanding of mathematics. This study also opens up opportunities for further exploration related to using other cultural elements in mathematics learning at various levels of education
