Abstract

This research aims to describe the representation of the toxic relationship of the character Aurora in the film Jalan Yang Jauh Jangan Lupa Pulang using John Fiske's semiotic analysis method, The Codes of Television theory. This theory has three level classifications, including the reality level, representation level and ideology level. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach method using observation, documentation and literature study as data collection techniques. The formulation of this research problem is as follows; What is the reality level of Aurora's character's toxic relationship in the film Jalan Yang Jauh Jangan Lupa Pulang? What is the level of representation of Aurora's toxic relationship in the film Jalan Yang Jauh Jangan Lupa Pulang? What is the ideological level of Aurora's toxic relationship in the film Jalan Yang Jauh Jangan Lupa Pulang?. The results of this research describe that the level of reality, level of representation, and level of ideology in the character Aurora have similarities with the current social reality. Where the gestures and expressions of each film actor highlight this side, such as the characteristic of not caring or being indifferent to the existence of people in the surrounding environment, in other words, the egoism side is more prominent in the character of Aurora as a character who experiences a toxic relationship.

Abstract

This analysis aims to analyze publication trends related to the Uses and Gratification Theory and social media in Scopus Journal Articles from 2019-2021. The Uses and Gratification Theory analyzes the genuine social and psychological needs that generate expectations for social media use. Nearly 50 years after, the Uses and Gratification Theory in today’s research is often used in social media. According to the result, most Uses and Gratification Theory articles came from the USA, followed by China, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, and India. Meanwhile, the top five most used keywords are social media (n=130), uses and gratifications (n=68), uses and gratifications theory (n=41), Facebook(n=26), and uses and gratification theory (n=18). To conclude, these number shows the trends of publication related to Uses and Gratification Theory, mostly about social media spanning from 2019-2021. Facebook is the social media most often mentioned, but in the future, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok, as younger media, could be used as an alternative research object. It also suggested the theme of fake news and its spread, entertainment satisfaction, the rise of mobile entertainment today, and artificial intelligence in media use.

Abstract

Film merupakan salah satu bentuk media massa yang mengalami kemajuan yang sangat pesat di bidang teknologi komunikasi. Film tidak hanya menjadi media hiburan, akan tetapi juga sebagai media informasi, dan ilmu baru yang bermanfaat bagi masyarakat. Untuk memudahkan pesan tersampaikan pada penonton, film memiliki unsur pembentuk yang terdiri dari unsur naratif dan unsur sinematografi. Melalui unsur naratif, film mempunyai plot serta cerita yang tersusun dari awal hingga akhir. Maksud dan tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui story dan plot sisi perjuangan dalam film Jatuh Cinta Seperti di Film-Film. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode analisis naratif Todorov yang mengklasifikasikan adegan dalam film menjadi 5 tahapan, yaitu equilibrium, disruption, recognition disruption, attempt to repair the disruption, reinstatement of the equilibrium. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian menggunakan teknik dokumentasi dan studi pustaka melalui publikasi ilmiah penelitian terkait dan buku. Hasil penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa Film Jatuh Cinta Seperti di Film-Film menggunakan struktur naratif sesuai dengan model Tzvetan Todorov. Dari hasil penelitian yang diperoleh, penulis menemukan teks dalam film membantu menguatkan adegan visual yang ditampilkan, teks membantu membangun emosional penonton dengan kondisi yang karakter alami, dan makna perjuangan seorang lelaki yang menaklukkan wanita pujaanya pada masa remaja yang sedang mangalami kondisi duka.

Abstract

The main purpose of this abdimas activity is to provide counselling and assistance related to Human Resource Management (HR) and Operational Standards (SOP) for managers at Pring Ledok Tinjon. This abdimas activity was held at the Pring Ledok Tinjon pavilion, with 10 participants. The material presented is related to how Pring Ledok Tinjon is able to manage its human resources, improve the organisational structure, and operational standards that must be owned by a business place so that operational activities carried out can run effectively and efficiently. The material presented by the abdimas team is based on the needs and problems faced by partners. The results of the abdimas carried out are expected that the partners understand the importance of management in managing the organisation and standardisation in running operations at tourist attractions. Human Resources (HR) can be involved in the progress of Pring Ledok Tinjon, have good coordination with fellow Pring Ledok Tinjon tourism managers.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze of the expressions of femininity in food photography as carried out by Kompakers Jogja. Photography has historically been established inside male-dominated domains. Unlike the historical context where photography has consistently been associated with male-dominated, Kompakers Jogja presents a contrasting perspective that questions the established norms of male dominance. This research explore the diverse viewpoints of ten individuals using a combination of photovoice and photo-elicitation. Through the application of qualitative content analysis within the thematic framework of femininity in photography, categorized as Theatricality, Tactility, Softness, and Hybridity. The analysis reveals that community members infuse distinct feminine sensibilities in their photography, as corroborated through visual scrutiny and validated during photo-elicitation. Prevalent among these manifestations are theatricality and hybridity, exemplified by strategic prop placement and digital enhancements aimed at augmenting the aesthetic allure of the captured images. In addition, tactility becomes important, especially when carefully choosing angles to elicit gustatory wants. Although the works of the members exhibit some softness, they serve more as supporting element. In summary, the Kompakers Jogja depict motifs that subtly and intricately symbolize femininity in their photography. This research shows the distinct characteristics linked to the facets of femininity as expressions of women's self-identity.

Abstract

This study examines the Indonesian comedy-horror film Agak Laen as a medium for social critique through the lens of discourse analysis. Employing Jones Abigails comedy theory, the research decodes narrative elements, satirical dialogues, and absurd situations to reveal critiques of social norms and collective behaviors. Using qualitative content analysis, and the study explores four thematic pillars: solidarity in chaos, irrational decisions yielding benefits, unconventional lives, and mistakes as learning opportunities. The film creatively uses humor to expose societal issues, such as moral compromise in group dynamics and the tendency to prioritize harmony over ethics. Through dark comedy, scenes like the accidental success of unethical shortcuts or group loyalty under pressure highlight the irony of everyday social interactions. Satirical dialogues, such as absurd debates on morality and justice, provoke critical reflection among audiences while maintaining entertainment value. The findings demonstrate how hybrid genres, particularly comedy-horror, provide an effective platform for conveying cultural messages and moral lessons in a palatable manner. The success of Agak Laen with over nine million viewers underscores the potential of such genres to merge entertainment with meaningful critique. This study contributes to the discourse on hybrid genres and their role in fostering social reflection within diverse cultural contexts. It offers insights for filmmakers seeking to blend narrative innovation with socio-cultural relevance.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini ialah untuk menganalisis dan mendeskripsikan wacana kritis pada program talkshow Kick Andy berjudul childfree dengan pendekatan Sara Mills. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Objek penelitian yaitu representasi childfree yang terdapat dalam program talkshow Kick Andy berjudul Childfree. Hasil penelitian ini adalah posisi sebagai subjek di dalam tayangan program talkshow Kick Andy berjudul Childfree ditempati oleh narasumber yang menyampaikan narasi tentang childfree. Sedangkan posisi pembaca ditempati oleh penonton tayangan program tersebut. Representasi childfree yang muncul dalam talkshow adalah terdapat beberapa latar belakang seseorang memutuskan untuk childfree yaitu adanya pengalaman traumatis di masa lalu yang pernah dialami seseorang di keluarganya, menganggap keberadaan anak sebagai beban, tidak memiliki kesiapan mental, dan pelaku childfree sudah merasa cukup Bahagia dengan pasangannya.

Abstract

Film adalah salah satu media komunikasi massa, yang menggunakan suatu media untuk menghubungkan komunikator dengan komunikan dengan jumah yang banyak, tersebar dimana-mana dan untuk menimbulkan efek tertentu. Film yang dibuat dapat mewakili segala kejadian yang pernah terjadi di kehidupan masyarakat. Banyaknya berita yang menginformasikan tentang kasus Perpeloncoan atau Kekerasan seksual yang terjadi di lingkungan pendidikan dibeberapa kampus yang tersebar di perguruan tinggi. Salah satunya adalah film Penyalin Cahaya yang menceritakan tentang seorang mahasiswa beasiswa yang sedang mencari keadilan karena telah menjadi korban perpeloncoan atau kekerasan seksual di grup teater kampus. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menganalisis yang ada pada film Penyalin Cahaya. Menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan analisis semiotika model John Fiske. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tanda-tanda realita yang terdapat pada level realitas yang menjelaskan pada aspek penampilan, aspek lingkungan dan aspek perilaku. Pada level representasi menjelaskan pada aspek kamera, aspek pencahayaan dan aspek suara atau musik yang digunakan dalam film. Selanjutnya, pada level Ideologi penggambaran nilai-nilai ketidakadilan dan perjuangan perempuan yang dapat disimpulkan adalah ideologi emansipasi wanita dan feminisme.

Abstract

As a mass media with a mirror function, advertising can reflect social reality formed from the media’s construction. Gender issues shaped by advertisements that are aired repeatedly will enter into the mindset of the people. In 2020, AX Indonesia published an ad for its newest product, the AX Pocket Perfume version of ‘Dijemput Si Cantik,’ which shows a female online motorcycle taxi driver picking up male customers. In  contrast  to  the  representation  of  women  in  previous  advertisements,  which  always  showed  women doing household activities. This study aims to determine the depiction of gender equality in the ad for the AX Pocket Perfume version of ‘Dijemput Si Cantik.’ A qualitative approach is used with descriptive explanations. The analysis theory used is Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis. The data collection technique in this study was to use the documentation method, namely to collect data from books, e-books, journals, and information from official sites on the internet as well as audio and visual materials, advertisements for the AXE Pocket Perfume version of ‘Dijemput Si Cantik.’ The results indicate that the depiction of gender equality in the ad for the AXE Pocket Parfume version of ‘picked up by the beauty’ is incomplete. Abstract

Ramayana, a well-known tale originating from India, has been embraced across Southeast Asia. In regions like Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and Kelantan, Malaysia, local customs have influenced its portrayal, character representation leading to deviations in storyline and. The aim of this study to compare the visual depiction of key characters, particularly Rama and Rahwana, in Javanese and Kelantanese Wayang Kulit, symbolizing the protagonist and antagonist, respectively. This study intends to contribute by revealing the impact of local visual traditions on the enduring grandeur of the Ramayana tale. The method is comparative study, begin with defining data, collecting data from Yogyakarta and Kelantan master of puppets through interview and documentation, analyzing data, displaying data and draw conclusion. The result is found that there are visual similarities and differences related to Rama and Rahwana character. The common visual similarities such as crown, weapon, cloth and accessories. Meanwhile the difference shows that Javanese and Kelantanese is only about the detail of the cloth, the animal rides (Kelantan version), and the size of the Wayang Kulit. In Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and Kelantan, Malaysia, the story of Ramayana is depicted in unique ways, influenced by cultural variations. These distinctions manifest in the characters' looks, headgear, weapon characteristics, facial expressions, and facial coloring. Further investigation is necessary to delve into these differences and understand the puppeteers' role in conveying moral messages to the community.
