Abstract

Sedimentation at the mouth of the Palu River is the cause of frequent flooding in Palu City. This study aims to understand the hydrodynamic conditions and longshore sediment transport around the mouth of the Palu River. Hydrodynamic conditions were analyzed by measuring velocity and current direction, salinity, discharge, breaking wave height, breaking wave depth, wave incidence angle, water density, and water depth. While the amount of longshore sediment transport was calculated based on the CERC empirical formula. The results revealed that the distribution of currents at the mouth of the Palu River was dominated by river currents, where the amount of seawater in the mouth of the river was small. This could be seen from the small salinity value, which ranged from 1 ‰ to 5 ‰. The longshore sediment transport around the Palu River estuary is 36.06 m3/day, where this sediment resulted in silting at the Palu River estuary during deposition.

Abstract

The increase in plastic waste demands acceleration of waste recycling technology. The purpose of this research is to make a prototype machine to process plastic waste into liquid fuel using the pyrolysis method called the Pluto (plastic to oil) engine. This machine can accommodate plastic waste with a maximum weight of about 3 Kg with a condensate tube that can accommodate a maximum volume of about 3 L of liquid fuel. Experimental results reveal that the heating process for 2 hours produces 250 mL of liquid fuel.

Abstract

Global Warming is one of the environmental problems today. Efforts of anticipatons as a form of concern, have been carried out by various environmental movement programs, initiated by the government, NGOs and the community. In principle, environmentally friendly campus management is one of the determinants in producing the quality and quantity of the ongoing educational process. The purpose of this research is to study the application of an environmentally friendly campus using the fishbone diagram method to analyze the cause and effect of a problem. The results of the cause and effect analysis are then used as input to formulate internal factors in the SWOT, then produce strategies to minimize obstacles and increase the success of the green campus. This research is useful for educational institutions at STT Migas Balikpapan because it can provide an understanding of campus management policies that are oriented towards environmental management, in an effort to implement environmental education for students, as well as the care and involvement of all elements of the academic community in a culture of environmental care.

Abstract

The physical properties of plastic waste that is not easily biodegradable is a serious problem in pollution on land and at sea. Therefore, technology to be able to solve these problems needs to be developed. This study aims to understand at what temperature plastic waste can produce fuel oil. The type of waste used in this research is polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is a type of plastic that uses drink bottles. The design of the device to convert plastic into fuel oil in this study consisted of 3 components, namely a valve which functions to regulate the flow of steam from the reactor tube to the condensate tube, the temperature gauge functions to measure the temperature contained in the reactor tube, and the heat blanket functions as a coating, this can reduce excessive heat in the reactor tube. The results revealed that at a temperature of 100ºC to 150ºC with a variation of time (26.3, 27.3, and 28) minutes did not produce oil. At a temperature of 200ºC to 250ºC with time variations (33, 34, and 35) minutes, the condensate tube begins to produce fuel above the water surface.

Abstract

Knowledge of explosion thresholds is essential to ensure a safe area. Fire or explosion may occur spontaneously if conditions in the area exceed the limits. Low explosive limit (LEL) measurements for 31 days have been carried out at Korpri Housing, precisely at Jl. Wilis Mukti 1, RT. 26, Kelurahan Sepinggan, Kecamatan Balikpapan Selatan, Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan. Measurements were conducted using a multimeter gas detector (compound gas monitor WT8811) for 31 days at three points, namely the first point was located about 5 m from the gas source, the second point was located at the gas source, and the third point was located around 20-25 m from the gas source. The measurement results revealed that the highest LEL value was at the second point with an average value of 4.79% LEL. The highest measurement results occurred on April 6, 2021 with measurement results in the morning at 09.00 WITA 14.8% LEL, afternoon at 12.00 WITA 13.8% LEL, and at 15.00 WITA 11.6% LEL. The results revealed that at the second point has the highest potential for an explosion.

Abstract

Erosi dan pencemaran perairan yang diakibatkan oleh pergerakan arus merupakan masalah yang sering terjadi di daerah sungai dan pesisir. Penelitian  ini  bertujuan  untuk  memodelkan  dinamika  arus  pasang  surut  pada penampang vertikal dari suatu kanal sempit. Simulasi dilakukan dengan menggunakan model numerik berbasis bahasa pemrograman Fortran yang dijalankan dengan menggunakan  gaya  pembangkit  pasang  surut.  Data  kedalaman,  konstanta  pasang surut,  dan  geometri  kanal  digunakan  untuk  menghitung  kecepatan  dan arah arus. Hasil simulasi mengungkapkan bahwa sistem koordinat sigma telah berhasil diterapkan pada daerah penelitian, dimana vektor kecepatan arus dapat ditampilkan pada setiap lapisan penampang vertikal. Pergerakan arus pasang surut pada daerah simulasi bersesuaian dengan teori arus pasang surut pada daerah sempit seperti teluk dan nilai vektor kecepatan arus yang dihasilkan pada setiap kondisi pasang surut relatif kecil.

Abstract

Pengaruh hubungan antara beban generator dan efisiensi turbin merupakan acuan dalam menentukan efisiensi turbin sebagai suatu alat yang berfurngsi mengkonveksi energi panas dari uap air menjadi energi listrik pada pltu. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui pengaruh antara beban generator terhadap efisiensi turbin dan mengetahui nilai korelasi dan regresi dari keduanya, metode yang digunakan yaitu uji linieritas yang digunakan untuk melihat linieritas atau tidak secara signifikan dengan perhitungan manual, lalu dilakukan Korelasi untuk teknik pengukuran asosiasi atau hubungan, serta dilakukanlah Analisis regresi yang tujuan untuk mengestimasi atau memprediksi nilai rata-rata variabel dependen berdasarkan nilai variabel independen yang diketahui dengan Microsoft excel. Pengujian linieritas fhitung dan ftabel dari perhitungan beban generator dan efisiensi turbin didapatlah fhitung 26,997 dan ftabel 4,750 artinya fhitung > ftabel yang artinya ada hubungan linier antara beban generator dan efisiensi turbin. Nilai multiple R sebesar 0,8479 yang dapat diartikan bahwa pengaruh beban generator terhadap efisiensi turbin sangat kuat. Nilai R square sebesar 0,7189 yang dapat diartikan bahwa beban generator mempengaruhi efisiesnsi turbin sebesar 71,89 %, sedangkan 28,11 % dipengaruhi faktor lain dan persamaan regresi Y = 68,81 yang dapat diartikan setiap kenaikan 1 mw beban generator, maka akan menaikan nilai efisiensi turbin sebesar 0,286 %.
