Abstract

This research examines in depth the complex relationship between folklore, branding and social media in Indonesia.  Folklore, as an integral part of cultural heritage, has great potential in marketing communications, but this potential has not been fully explored in a modern context. This research will examine how folklore narratives, which are full of cultural values, local wisdom and the history of Indonesian society, can be adapted and integrated into digital marketing content. With the aim of creating brand stories that are not only informative, but also touch consumers' emotions, building a deeper sense of closeness and attachment.  This research explores various storytelling formats—from visual content on social media to video campaigns—and how each format can reach different audiences. The case study used is Bangflo Coffee, a local coffee brand, which uses their Instagram account to reach technology-savvy millennials. By using storytelling as their Communication strategy, they use culture to build community, shared values, and brand loyalty. This research not only highlights the importance of emotional connections in navigating Indonesia's highly diverse and dynamic market, but also provides marketers with valuable insights into how to leverage the richness of folklore to create resonant and effective marketing campaigns.  The findings of this research contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of folklore in branding in the digital era, especially in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to map the research landscape of cross-cultural communication on digital platforms, identify knowledge gaps, and analyze existing trends. Specifically, this research examines the evolution of research, inter-country collaboration, and its impact. Quantitative bibliometric methods were applied to data from the Scopus database (2011–2024), analyzing key indicators such as the number of publications, citations, h-index, keyword trends, and author collaboration networks (co-authorship networks). The results show the dominance of the United States in the number of publications (157) and citations (69), reflecting a strong research ecosystem and global influence. Collaboration network analysis shows that while some countries, such as China, have strong intra-country collaboration (indicated by high Single Country Publications (SCP)), other countries, such as Spain, show more significant international collaboration (Multiple Country Publications/MCP). Developing countries, although their contribution is smaller quantitatively, exhibit unique collaboration patterns that focus on regional and local issues, enriching the global perspective in this research. This study identifies a lack of in-depth studies on specific digital platforms beyond Western-based platforms, as well as the need for further research on the impact of non-Western cultures in online interactions. Keywords: Cross-Cultural Communication, Digital Platforms, Collaboration, Citation, Bibliometrics. Abstract

Disaster communication strategies often overlook cultural and spiritual dimensions, leading to ineffective responses during crises. This study investigates the symbolic meaning of local wisdom and the role of spirituality in disaster communication and environmental conservation during the eruption of Mount Agung in Bali. The research analyzes how traditional symbols, local rituals, and informal communication channels enhance community preparedness and trust. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with community members and local leaders and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that traditional tools like kentongan (bamboo slit drums), animal behavior, and wooden house design serve as effective early warning systems rooted in community heritage. Local spirituality embodied by religious figures (Jero Mangku), collective rituals, the Tri Hita Karana philosophy, and customary law (Awig Gawi) fosters psychological resilience and communal trust. Furthermore, community radio and WhatsApp are proven to be effective communication tools, especially when coordinated by trusted local leaders. This research underscores the value of integrating spiritual and cultural components into disaster mitigation strategies. The findings offer valuable insights for developing community-centered, culturally grounded disaster communication frameworks in similar high-risk regions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the production and scholarly trends of Scopus-indexed scientific research on digital storytelling in the context of cultural studies using a bibliometric approach. Data were analyzed using Bibliometrix-R through the Biblioshiny interface and visualized with VOSviewer (version 1.6.20). The findings indicate that scholarly attention to digital storytelling peaked in 2019, with the highest average citations per article at 3.83. However, average citation rates declined in subsequent years, reaching 1.92 in 2023 and 0.79 in 2024. Among contributing scholars, Benmayor received the highest citation count for the article titled “Digital storytelling as a signature pedagogy for the new humanities” published in Arts and Humanities in Higher Education in 2008. Keyword analysis reveals that “digital storytelling,” “storytelling,” and “human” are the most frequently occurring terms, reflecting core thematic concerns in this field. These results suggest a sustained yet evolving interest in digital storytelling within cultural studies, and they underscore the need for further research on its pedagogical and cultural implications in contemporary discourse.

Abstract

Background: The advancement of information technology has transformed the management of microfilm collections through digitization. This process aims to align with the increasingly digital information consumption patterns of society, while also preserving information and enhancing accessibility.Purpose: This study explores the stages of microfilm digitization, the challenges encountered, and applicable digital preservation strategies to ensure the longevity of information. Methods: Conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research collected primary data through direct observation of the digitization process and secondary data from literature review. The data were analyzed by identifying, categorizing, and explaining key elements such as digitization activities, challenges, solutions, and preservation strategies. Results: The findings indicate that microfilm digitization consists of three stages: pre-transformation (administrative and equipment preparation), transformation (microfilm scanning), and post-transformation (quality control and file management). Challenges include the dependency of digital output quality on the condition of the microfilm, limited human and financial resources, and the difficulty of sustaining digital access amid technological changes. Solutions include the use of artificial intelligence to improve OCR accuracy and automate metadata analysis. To ensure long-term access, preservation strategies such as data refreshing, format migration, and digital environment emulation are essential. With these strategies, information institutions can safeguard knowledge and reinforce the role of libraries in the digital era.
