Abstract

Balinese script writing, as one of Balinese cultural richness, is going to extinct because of its decreasing use. This research is one of the ways to preserve Balinese script writing using technological approach. Through collaboration between Computer Science and Balinese Language discipline, this research focused on the development of a Latin-to-Balinese script transliteration robotic system that was called LBtrans-Bot. LBtrans-Bot can be used as a learning system to give the transliteration knowledge as one aspect of Balinese script writing. In this research area, LBtrans-Bot was known as the first system that utilize Noto Sans Balinese font and was developed based on the identified seventeen kinds of special word. LBtrans-Bot consists of the transliterator web application, the transceiver console application, and the robotic arm with its GUI controller application. The transliterator used the Model-View-Controller architectural pattern, where each of them was implemented by using MySQL database (as the repository for the words belong to the seventeen kinds of special word), HTML, PHP, CSS, and Bootstrap (mostly for the User Interface responsive design), and JavaScript (mostly for the transliteration algorithm and as the controller between the Model and the View). Dictionary data structure was used in the transliterator memory as a place to hold data (words) from the Model. The transceiver used batch script and AutoIt script to receive and trasmit data from the transliterator to the GUI controller, which control the Balinese script writing of the robotic arm. The robotic arm with its GUI controller used open-source mDrawBot Arduino Robot Building platform. Through the experiment, LBtrans-Bot has been able to write the 34-pixel font size of the Noto Sans Balinese font from HTML 5 canvas that has been setup with additional 10-pixel length of the width and the height of the Balinese script writing area. Its transliterator gave the accuracy result up to 91% (138 of 151) testing cases of The Balinese Alphabet writing rules and examples document by Sudewa. This transliterator result outperformed the best result of the known existing transliterator based on Bali Simbar font, i.e. Transliterasi Aksara Bali, that only has accuracy up to 68% (103 of 151) cases of the same testing document. In the future work, LBtrans-Bot could be improved by: 1) Accommodating more complex Balinese script with trade off to the limited writing area of robotic system; 2) Enhancing its transliterator to accommodating the rules and/or examples from the testing document that recently cannot be handled or gave incorrect transliteration result; enriching the database consists of words belong to the seventeen kinds of special word; and implementing semantic relation transliteration.

Abstract

Balinese script writing, as one of Balinese cultural richness, is going to extinct because of its decreasing use. This research is a way to preserve it through collaboration between Computer Science and Language discipline, that focused on accuracy comparison of Latin-to-Balinese script transliteration method on mobile application as a ubiquitous learning media. From few research in this area, there are only two existing methods to be compared, i.e. each on Android mobile application that were called Belajar Aksara Bali (BAB), and Transliterasi Aksara Bali (TAB). The comparison was based on The Balinese Alphabet writing rules and examples document by Sudewa. Through the experiment, TAB has outperformed BAB since TAB has passed over 68% (103 of 151) cases, while BAB has passed over only 39% (59 of 151) cases. This research contributes on a comprehensive accuracy comparison analysis of Latin-to-Balinese script transliteration method, specifically on mobile application, since there is no such study. This research also contributes on those methods improvement possibility. In the future, this research can be used as a reference for improvement of any Latin-to-Balinese script transliteration method by taking care on thirteen kind of special words that were found during this comparison study.

Abstract

The research aimed to examine the existence of Balinese script block structure types in the Balinese Latin script dictionary to make it easy and correct to read Balinese script. The Balinese language was encountering an urgent crisis in poor intergenerational speaker transmission, the emergence of the stigma of reading Balinese script was very difficult, and the actual use of Balinese script was increasingly narrow and limited. The research applied qualitative methods as a reference method in completing research. The research instrument used observation, documentation, and writing methods as data collection methods. The types of Balinese script block structures found in the Balinese Latin script dictionary of the 21 most used entries are (1) V-CV-CC, (2) V-CCV-CC, (3) CV-CV-CC, (4) CV-C, (5) V-CCV. The concept of the syllabogram block structure differs from the phonological syllables in the Balinese script writing system. The syllabogram shows block breaks, while the phonological syllables are based on loudness level. Understanding these differences makes it easier to read Balinese script, which is different from Latin script. The research proves the application of the concept of Balinese script block structure types to relevant Balinese script elements based on the concept of syllables as a reference for reading and writing Balinese script. The research provides a reference and guide in reading, writing, and transliterating Balinese script into Latin script with adequate concepts and theories.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the meaning of bloodshed in the Pasola ritual for people's lives in Sumba.  This type of research is library research. The data in this research comes from books and scientific articles that discuss the Pasola ritual and its meaning. Data collection techniques are carried out through reading and analyzing literature relevant to the research topic. The data analysis technique is carried out through two main methods: first, content analysis, namely reviewing texts or documents to understand and interpret the meaning of the Pasola ritual; second, contextual analysis, namely understanding the social, cultural and historical context of the Pasola ritual. The results of this research found several important meanings of bloodshed in the Pasola ritual for the lives of the people of Sumba, including as a channel for fertility and successful harvests, respect for ancestors and guardian spirits of the land, as a ritual of purification and spiritual renewal, as a symbol of courage and virility, and a symbol of uniting society.

Abstract

The representation of syllables, which are realized through akshara, often gives rise to ambiguity in their phonological mapping, consequently impacting reading and writing performance.The objective of this study is to describe how syllables are represented by Balinese script graphemes within Balinese-Indonesian dictionaries with Latin and Balinese scripts in 2016. The list of Balinese script entries that make up the Balinese – Indonesian Latin and Balinese Dictionary totals 16,162. The graphemic analysis of each basic shape of the Balinese script (specifically the Wreastra type) employed in the entries is conducted based on linguistic value criteria from Meletis (2019). The validated Balinese script represents language units at the hidden syllable level, allowing for the analysis of phonological syllable structure information based on the Balinese syllable pattern. The research findings indicate that the Balinese script graphemes represent syllables using CV and V patterns. The Balinese script grapheme that represents CV (/Ca/ and /Cә/) is realized by the main consonant grapheme group and its paired variant. Syllables with a V pattern, on the other hand, are formed through a combination of free graphemes representing glottal stop consonants (/ha/) and bound graphemes in the form of diacritics used for vowel markers other than attached vowels, that is ulu /i/, pepet /ǝ/, taleng /e/, taleng tedong /o/, and suku /u/.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan, untuk menjelaskan serta menunjukkan temuan nilai pendidikan karakter yang ada pada permainan tradisional yakni permainan Ngarot. Permainan ngarot merupakan permainan tradisional garapan baru asal Buleleng, Bali. Dalam bahasa daerah khususnya daerah Buleleng Timur, ngarot memiliki artian jaring. Permainan Ngarot tersebut terinspirasi dari kisah keseharian para nelayan di Buleleng dalam mencari ikan menggunakan jaring. Permainan Ngarot ini menjadi garapan permainan tradisional (dolanan) duta Kabupaten Buleleng, yang dipentaskan dalam Pesta Kesenian Bali (PKB) tahun 2023. Penelitian ini juga ingin membuktikan bahwa pengajaran tentang pembentukan karakter anak tidak hanya bisa didapat dari pembelajaran formal saja, namun dapat diperoleh juga dari permainan tradisional. Pada penelitian ini, menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Adapun subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah permainan Ngarot. Objek pada penelitian ini berfokus pada nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang terdapat dalam permainan Ngarot. Data-data yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini, dikumpulkan dengan metode dokumentasi serta wawancara. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk dapat mengumpulkan data penelitian ada dua. Instrumen yang pertama berupa kartu data untuk menunjang proses reduksi data dokumentasi dan instrumen yang kedua yakni draft lembar pertanyaan untuk menunjang pelaksanaan metode wawancara. Proses analisis data dilakukan melalui tiga tahapan, dimulai dari (1) reduksi data, (2) klasifikasi data dan (3) deskripsi data. Ditemukan 9 nilai pendidikan karakter yang ada dalam permainan Ngarot. Kesembilan nilai pendidikan karakter dalam permainan Ngarot tersebut diantaranya, nilai kejujuran, nilai demokrasi, nilai rasa ingin tahu, nilai cinta tanah air, nilai menghargai prestasi, nilai persahabatan, nilai cinta damai, nilai kepedulian sosial, dan nilai tanggung jawab. Kesembilan nilai pendidikan karakter yang ditemukan tersebut, memberikan pengajaran serta memupu moral dan Susila dalam diri anak ketika bersikap di masyarakat. Oleh karena itu, nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter sangat amat berdampak bagi generasi muda untuk mendidik mereka menjadi generasi yang bermoral ketika bertingkah laku di masyarakat.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menjelaskan tentang keberadaan berbagai istilah pernikahan yang ada di desa Batur. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menjelaskan bentuk-bentuk dari istilah pernikahan di desa adat Batur tersebut. Subjek penelitian ini adalah desa adat Batur tersebut, sedangkan objek penelitian ini adalah bentuk-bentuk istilah pernikahan di desa adat Batur. Metode peneliian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis deskriptif kualitatif, sedangkan metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah metode dokumentasi dan metode wawancara. Analisis data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah identifikasi data, reduksi data, klasifikasi data dan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini diperoleh dari beberapa sumber diantaranya (1) buku Raja Purana Pura Ulun Danu Batur, (2) tokoh-tokoh desa adat Batur,dan (3) buku awig-awig desa adat Batur. Dari sumber tersebut diperoleh 20 istilah-istilah dalam pernikahan di desa adat Batur yang dikelompokan berdasarkan sumber perolehan data tersebut, yaitu 12 istilah buku Raja Purana Ulun Danu Batur yaitu: (1) Bangkung Panguwug, (2) Ketumiman, (3) Mangadol pianak, (4) Makedengan ngad, (5) Pada gelahang, (6)Masomahan amisan, (7)Mamaduang nyama, (8) Manekayang, (9) Kacolongan, (10)Tiing Ambis, (11)Anak mangiyuh dan (12)Palit genta. Kemudian 4 istilah tambahan dari tokoh desa adat Batur yaitu: (1)Nyeburin, (2) Ngejuk, (3) Morong, dan (4) Gowak ngukup taluh. Dan ada 4 istilah yang diperoleh dari awig-awig desa adat Batur, yaitu: (1) Mapragat, (2)Mamirak, (3) Memadik dan (4)Ngerorod. Berdasarkan hasil dari penelitian tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa istilah-istilah seperti peribahasa Bali bisa digunakan dalam stiap keadaan seperti dalam pernikahan. Banyak ditemukan istilah-istilah pernikahan, seperti pernikahan di Batur, istilah-istilah tersebut akan selalu mengalami perkembangan seiring perkembangan zaman.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan model pembelajaran Treffinger berbasis media audio visual terhadap pembelajaran membaca teks berita bagi siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Mengwi, menelaah respons siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Mengwi terhadap penerapan model pembelajaran Treffinger berbasis audio visual dalam membaca teks berita, dan mengevaluasi hasil belajar model pembelajaran Treffinger berbasis media audio visual dalam pembelajaran membaca teks berita siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Mengwi. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan teknik observasi, dokumentasi dan wawancara kemudian dilakukan analisis data yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, serta penarikan simpulan untuk menjawab ketiga rumusan masalah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi Model Treffinger dan media audio visual berhasil meningkatkan keaktifan dan kemampuan membaca teks berita siswa kelas VII di SMP Negeri 2 Mengwi. Hasil wawancara dengan guru dan siswa di SMP Negeri 2 Mengwi, penerapan model pembelajaran Treffinger berbasis media audiovisual dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia memiliki dampak positif. Model ini terbukti meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam mengemukakan ide, meningkatkan keaktifan, berpikir kritis, serta minat siswa dalam pembelajaran khususnya dalam pembelajaran membaca teks berita. Hasil belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia meningkat secara signifikan dengan penggunaan model pembelajaran ini, mengubah kelas siswa dari pasif menjadi aktif.

Abstract

Time determines the good and bad day to start doing something in Balinese society. This study aims to analyze the sign system in the Ala Ayuning Dewasa on the Balinese Caka Calendar. Data is taken from the Balinese Caka Calendar 2023. There are two types of data in this study, namely written and oral data. Written data is in the form of animal name terms and their meanings. Oral data is a description of the relationship between signifiers and signifieds. Written data were collected through observation assisted by note-taking techniques. Researchers observed the sign system in the Ala Ayuning Dewasa on the Balinese Caka Calendar and noted it in the sheets provided. Oral data were obtained from three informants who wrestled with the Ala Ayuning Dewasa on the Balinese Caka Calendar through interviews. The results showed that (1) signifiers were formed from a combination of times called wewaran, wuku, and penanggal/pangelong, (2) there were 20 animal terms consisting of 9 forms of noun phrases, and 11 simple clauses, (3) signifiers and signifieds have a connotation relationship, (4) signifieds are complex which means that one signified can have the meaning of good das, bad day, good and bad days, even one signifier can have up to 5 meanings. This research is a sound guide for Hindus in Bali to discover the meaning of the relationship between animal signifiers and their signifieds in the Ala Ayuning Dewasa on the Balinese Caka Calendar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berjenis deskriptif kualitatif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (a) untuk mengetahui bentuk-bentuk campur kode bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Inggris pada tuturan siswa SMP Swasta Nanyang Zhi Hui Medan, (b) untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis campur kode bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Inggris pada tuturan siswa SMP Swasta Nanyang Zhi Hui Medan, dan (c) untuk mengetahui faktor penyebab campur kode bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Inggris pada tuturan siswa kelas SMP Swasta Nanyang Zhi Hui Medan. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMP Swasta Nanyang Zhi Hui Medan. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dengan metode observasi, kuesioner, dan wawancara. Data dianalisis dengan metode analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Berdasarkan analisis, dapat disimpulkan bahwa (a) campur kode pada tuturan siswa SMP Swasta Nanyang Zhi Hui Medan terdiri dari bentuk kata (me, must, choir, scene, page, then, dan lainnya) dan frasa (multiple choice or essay, waiting room, the last, like this, all the photos, this photo, bad word, permanent marker, dan under one minute), (b) campur kode siswa SMP Nanyang Zhi Hui meliputi campur kode ke luar (outer code mixing) dan campur kode campuran (hybrid code mixing), dan (c) faktor penyebab terjadinya campur kode siswa SMP Swasta Nanyang Zhi Hui Medan adalah kebiasaaan penutur, latar belakang siswa, dan keterbatasan penggunaan kode.
