Abstract

An undervaluation of melaleuca forest (MF) needs to be adressed since it affects a management of MF. Type of goods and services produced by MF were indentified. Their values were assessed using Forest Valuation tehniques such as market price and replacement cost methods and then used to determine the value of MF using total economic value (TEV) approach. The result showed that TEV of MF was aboutRp.1,6 million/ha/year (forest flow value). Water had the highest value ofRp.1,04 million/ha/year (or 66% of TEV) followed by leafs ofRp.0,4 million/ha/year(or 24% of TEV). The rest comprised of water, flora and fauna valueswas ofRp. 0,03 million/ha/year (or 1,6% of TEV). The value of MF was estimated about Rp.36 million/hectare (forest stock value).

Abstract

To reserve forest land and improve people's income, Perum Perhutani Sumedang regency, together with the people surrounding the forest, makes a program to utilize the forest by using an agroforestry system. For that reason, the researcher is interested in doing research about the type of crops that can optimize forest land. The objective of the research is to analyze the utilization of forest land optimally and improve the social welfare of the people surrounding the forest in Cipadayungan, Sumedang. The result of the research indicates that the degree of erosion in the research field at the slopes of (0-<15)% and (15-<30)% is still under tolerated erosion, but the slope of .30% is beyond tolerated erosion. Types of crops that can be used to utilize the land without clearing grass growing on the forest floor are vanilla and coffee. Those plants are productive crops, while grass can protect the land against erosion.

Abstract

Social forestry is a government initiative program that promotes sustainable forest management to enhance community welfare. Mandailing Natal Regency is rich in timber and non-timber forest products (NTFP). This study aims to analyze key and non-key NTFP commodities, changes in growth patterns, and shifts within the biopharmaceutical and fruit sectors relevant to the concept of multiple-use forestry (MUF) under the framework of social forestry in Forest Management Unit IX Penyabungan, Mandailing Natal Regency. Location Quotient (LQ) and Shift-Share (SS) analysis were combined to map and identify local commodities that could become key commodities for social forestry development in Penyabungan, Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra. The results indicated that cinnamon, cocoa, sugar palm, and candlenuts are the essential NTFP commodities with  LQ value > 1. Meanwhile, galangal, turmeric, laos, wild ginger, and curcuma dominate the biopharmaceutical products with  LQ value > 1. Among fruits, starfruit, langsat, durian, guava, jengkol, mango, mangosteen, melinjo, jackfruit, petai, rambutan, and breadfruit are identified as essential commodities with LQ value > 1. While the MUF sectors related to forestry and fruit show positive growth trends, the biopharmaceutical sector exhibits a negative shift. This study suggests that agroforestry development in the social forest at Mandailing Natal could benefit the biopharmaceutical sector, creating job opportunities and increasing farmers’ incomes. Abstract

Land degradation is a serious problem in the Upper Sekampung Watersheds.  This is because the farmers cultivated in steep land to coffee crops without  in adequate soil and water conservation practices.   The land degradation is mostly caused by erosion.  The erosion problem not only stripping the most fertile top soil and decreasing crop production, but also resulting problems in lowland.  Therefore, the reorientation land management should be improved to produce agriculture sustainability. The first step is to evaluated land capability this area.  The objectives of the research were evaluate land capability of Upper Sekampung Watersheds.  The results showed that the Upper Sekampung Watersheds were dominated with class and subclass land capability of III-l2 about 17.630,51 ha (41,58 %). All of the constrain for each land capability in this area is erosion hazard, especially land slope.  From this research, cultivated land to coffee base crops were allowed in land capability II-l1.e1, III-l2, IV-l3, and VI-l4, with in adequate soil and water conservation practices. In contrary, the land capability of VII-l5 unsuitable for agriculture, they should be a nature or for conservation forest.

Abstract

Indonesia has a natural tourist attraction in the form of 54 national parks spread across regencies and cities, with an area of 16,304,707.13 hectares, featuring a diversity of ecosystems, high mountains, lowlands, savannahs to wetlands, and waters. However, the appeal of natural tourism does not necessarily contribute to the performance of national tourism, hence studies need to support of increase in tourist arrivals to national parks, one of which is to study tourism competitiveness in areas that have national parks in Indonesia. This research aims to develop a model of tourism competitiveness management in areas that have national parks in Indonesia. The theory underlying this research is the theory of tourism competitiveness through the approach of the competitiveness index of the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index, Indicators for Measuring Competitiveness in Tourism, and Competitiveness Monitor. The research design uses 20 competitiveness factors, where data collection techniques utilize data that has been available at both government and non-government institutions and the data collection method uses library research. The data were analysed by using the dynamic model method. The results of the study found that tourist arrivals significantly correlated simultaneously with the factor of tourism competitiveness of the districts and cities that have national parks, tourist arrival, revenue tourism, and conservation in zona utility of national park in Indonesia. It is proposed that local governments, national parks management and other interested parties make policy innovations to optimize the factors of tourism competitiveness in their regions to support or increase in the number of tourist visits in national parks

Abstract

Interpretation subject is a novel approach to observing resources in the interpretation program. Interpretation programs refer to the efforts to develop an individual's ability to deeply interpret the value of nature for humans through meaningful and pleasant experiences, impressions, and feelings to achieve management goals. The viewpoint of interpretation subject considers the intrinsic value of each resource. These polarization studies provide valuable information on critical issues concerning stakeholder perception and their implications for managing interpretations. The purpose of this study is to analyze and evaluate the characteristics of the interpretation subject that stakeholders thought were crucial in Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park management. The survey was done by distributing questionnaires to related stakeholders (tourists, communities, and area managers/tour operators) and evaluated by cluster analysis, Kruskal-Wallis, and Mann-Whitney test. Although the stakeholder considered flora, language, and abiotic components essential in interpretation, tourists' perception tended to focus on abiotic components and the built natural environment. The research showed that abiotic and cultural component-based-ecotourism-programs shall be developed to ensure sustainable management, increase community participation, and introduce the biological wealth in the national park area.
