Abstract

Elementary science instruction often remains teacher-centered, limiting student engagement and leading to suboptimal learning outcomes. This condition underscores the need for student-oriented approaches such as the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model, which connects scientific concepts to real-life contexts. This study aimed to examine the effect of CTL on fourth-grade students’ learning interest and academic achievement in science in the Ongka Malino District.A quantitative true experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group was employed. The sample consisted of 62 students from two elementary schools, divided into an experimental group receiving CTL-based instruction and a control group receiving conventional teaching. Data were collected using validated achievement tests and learning interest questionnaires and analyzed through paired sample t-tests.The findings revealed statistically significant improvements in both learning outcomes (t = 10.787, p 0.05) and learning interest (t = 11.575, p 0.05) among students in the experimental group. The effect sizes were large (Cohen’s d = 1.35 for achievement and d = 1.42 for interest), indicating a strong impact of the CTL model on both cognitive and affective domains. The results demonstrate that CTL is an effective instructional approach for enhancing students’ academic performance and engagement in science. By integrating real-life contexts into learning, CTL fosters meaningful understanding and intrinsic motivation. These findings support the adoption of context-based, active learning strategies to improve the quality of elementary science education.

Abstract

This research aims to develop an instrument that can measure the achievement of student learning outcomes in chemistry education in Environmental Chemistry courses, which refers to Bloom's Taxonomy, which has been revised along with the dimensions of knowledge from Anderson & Krathwohl. The research method used in this research is research and development with 4 (four) stages of research 1) define; 2) design; 3) develop; and 4) dissemination. The validation of this instrument was carried out by two experts in the field of chemistry and tested on 20 students. The instrument used is in the form of a description that takes the cognitive domains C1 to C3. In addition, in the instrument there are also 4 (four) dimensions of knowledge tested, namely factual, conceptual, procedural, and metacognitive. Based on the results of expert validation, it was found that in content there were no problems only in the use of verbs in the instrument requiring more operational verbs and based on the test results it was found that all the questions given showed that 30.15% of the questions were categorized as easy, 44, 80% were categorized as moderate and 25.05% were categorized as difficult. This study shows that the knowledge dimension in Bloom's taxonomy needs to be applied by considering the knowledge dimension to develop thinking skills in students.

Abstract

Food waste is a common issue in countries around the world and become the global concern that planned in SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Number 12. Huge percentage of food waste discarded and low number of recycled shows that the existing fight is not optimal. This research aims to analyse the influence factors and strategies for reducing food waste from small scope of household level using SWOT analysis. Based on the result, the highest strength is the “Control and management over food needs by family” score of 0.357. The weakness is “No proper planning to process food waste” score of 0.481. The highest opportunity is “Ability to recreate leftover food" score of 0.39. and the highest threat is “Easy to buy food with affordable price" score of 0.496. SWOT analysis shows that the total value of the Strength (S) is lower than Weaknesses (W) with the difference of -0.312. While the total value of the Opportunities (O) is lower than Threats (T) with the difference of -0.125. So, with this unfavored position, the strategy that will be developed to reduce food waste at the household level is a defensive strategy or also called minimizing weakness to survive against threat.
