Abstract

The term land subsidence denotes the collapse of a building due to compression and deformation of the soil layer beneath the building. Settlement will occur if a layer of soil is loaded, settlement is also influenced by the distribution of soft soil or clay found below the surface on alluvial plains. In this case, the West Sumatra-Riau Jorong Bancah Kenagarian Batu Balang road, Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota, is one of the areas traversed for the construction of the West Sumatra-Riau cross road. This road is included in the category of primary local roads with a road width of 6 m. Currently, the physical condition of the West Sumatra-Riau Jorong Bancah Kenagarian Batu Balang road, Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota, has been repaired and some has not been repaired. The road in Bancah includes the Payakumbuh – Tanjung Pati ring road, which is used by the local community and trucks to speed up the road. Based on this, a study was carried out to determine the condition of the soil on the road. This research was conducted by taking samples at the research location and then determining the water content, specific gravity, density and finally the California Bearing Ratio (CBR). The average water content for undisturbed samples was found to be 30.98%. Based on the test results, it was found that the average soil density was 1.10 gr/cm³, so it can be concluded that the soil tested was a type of clay. Furthermore, the results of testing the soil density obtained dry specific gravity, the maximum ɤd is 2.83 t/m and the optimum moisture content is 16%. The density obtained from the results of testing in the Civil Engineering Laboratory of STT Payakumbuh is the average soil density: 2.59 gr/cm³ which is categorized as soft soil. The results of laboratory CBR testing found that the average CBR of soil was 5.27%. This shows that the land is not suitable for use for construction if the minimum standard is 6%.

Abstract

The Radiotherapy Unit at Andalas University Hospital (Unand Hospital), Padang City, has a brachytherapy facility with multichannel indexer technology of High Dose Rate on the Remote after Loading System type MicroSelectron HDR and has 6 channels. The radioactive source used is Iridium-192 or Ir-192, with an initial activity of about 12 Ci. This study uses a well-type chamber ionization detector to verify the brachytherapy source against HDR Ir-192. The well-type chamber detector measures the radiation dose given to the patient during the brachytherapy procedure. This study uses detectors to measure radiation dose at several points around the source. The study was conducted by verifying the activity of the radiation source in Ir-192 brachytherapy using a voltage of 200 V and 400 V. It was regulated using an electrometer connected to a detector. The results show that the well-type chamber detector could accurately verify the source of brachytherapy. In addition, the measured activity values are in accordance with those permitted in standardization in brachytherapy, which is around 10 to 12 GBq. Therefore, well-type chamber ionization detectors can effectively verify brachytherapy sources. Thus, proper radiation source verification is paramount to ensure patient safety and treatment effectiveness

Abstract

The concept of electromagnetic induction is very important in understanding and developing modern electrical technology. Some factors cause students to often find it difficult to understand electromagnetic induction material in school is that this material involves abstract concepts such as magnetic flux, magnetic field changes, and emf. For some students, understanding these concepts may be difficult due to a lack of direct experience or concrete representations. Enrichment of physics material on electromagnetic induction has been implemented at SMA N 1 Gunung Talang. This service activity aims to improve students' understanding of the basic concepts of Electromagnetic Induction in Class XII. This service consists of three stages including: preparation, implementation and evaluation. The evaluation of this activity was carried out by comparing the pre-test results before enrichment and the post-test scores of students after being given enrichment material by the lecturer (service team). The results obtained show an increase in student knowledge towards understanding the concept of electromagnetic induction. This service activity can be an effort for school and university cooperation to support student success in understanding physics concepts that are considered complicated

Abstract

Abstract

The research aims to measure and compare the amount of thermal radiation emitted by various materials with different colors and textures, and to calculate the emissivity of each material. Experiments were carried out using four surface variations of the cube. The results show that the black surface of the Leslie cube emitted the most thermal radiation, followed by the dull, shiny, and white surfaces. The average value of thermal radiation output for each surface was 3.4 mV for black material, 1.6 mV for white material, 2.4 mV for shiny colored materials, and 2.8 mV for dull colored materials. The amount of power obtained for each surface was 1.9 x 10-8 Watts, 0.87 x 10-8 Watts, 1.3 x 10-8 Watts, and 1.6 x 10-8 Watts, respectively. The emissivity of each material, which is the ratio of the thermal radiation emitted by the material to that of a black body at the same temperature, was 1, 0.458, 0.684, and 0.842, respectively. Based on the sensor output value, it can be concluded that black cloth is the most effective material in transmitting thermal radiation energy compared to glass, cardboard, and styrofoam. The research also provides empirical data and calculations of the thermal radiation and emissivity of different materials, which can be used for further analysis and applications. The research contributes to the literature on physics education and thermal radiation by demonstrating a practical and engaging way of teaching and learning the concept of thermal radiation using a Leslie cube.
