Abstract

Abstract

Diagnostic radiology is the most significant contributor to irradiation in the general population. Unnecessary irradiation of workers, patients, and the public during radiological procedures should be significantly reduced without affecting the medical diagnostic value. This study was conducted to analyze and evaluate the radiation dose rate, radiation protection facilities and radiation worker dose of Radiology Installation of Pariaman Regional Hospital. The method of determining the radiation dose rate at the Radiology Instalansi of Pariaman Hospital uses a PDR 303 gamma surveymeter and the rooms to be measured are CT-Scan rooms, conventional X-rays and mammography. Collecting data on radiation protection facilities, then it will be analyzed based on Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency Regulation No. 4 of 2020 and radiation worker dose data in 2023 will be analyzed based on Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency Regulation No. 4 of 2013. The results of the study showed that the radiation dose rate around the CT-Scan room was found to be (0.24-1.61) μSv/hour, the conventional X-ray room with irradiation using the minimum exposure factor obtained a radiation dose rate around the room ranging from (0.013-0.33) μSv/hour and with the maximum exposure factor obtained a dose rate around the room of (0.33-1.08) μSv/hour and the mammography room obtained a radiation dose rate of (0.03-0.40) μSv/hour. The radiology room facilities used by Pariaman Hospital are in accordance with the standards set by Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency Regulation No. 4 of 2020. And the dose rate received by radiation workers at Pariaman Hospital is below the Dose Limit Value set by Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency Regulation No. 4 of 2013. Based on the results of this study, it is found that there are several measurement points in the CT-Scan and conventional X-ray rooms that exceed the community dose limit value.

Abstract

Research has been carried out to determine the activity concentrations of radionuclides Ra-226 (Radium-226), Th-232 (Thorium-232), and K-40 (Potassium-40) in the Bukik Batabuah area, West Sumatra. The main objective of this research was to compare radionuclide levels in soils affected by cold lava floods with those exposed only to volcanic ash, and to assess whether the cold lava flow contributed to increased radionuclide concentrations. Measurements were performed using an HPGe (High Purity Germanium) gamma spectrometer. Soil samples were collected from six locations impacted by the cold lava flow and from three locations affected by ash from the Mount Marapi eruption. The results indicated that Ra-226, Th-232, and K-40 were detected in all samples. The average activity concentrations in soil affected by the cold lava flow were 14.92 ± 0.62 Bq/kg for Ra-226, 18.37 ± 0.83 Bq/kg for Th-232, and 342.15 ± 7.85 Bq/kg for K-40. In contrast, soils not affected by the cold lava flow showed average values of 10.99 ± 0.62 Bq/kg for Ra-226, 22.34 ± 1.03 Bq/kg for Th232, and 191.68 ± 5.06 Bq/kg for K-40. A t-test statistical analysis indicated significant differences between the two groups of samples. Based on PERKA BAPETEN No. 9 of 2009, the measured activity concentrations in soils around the foothills of Mount Marapi remain below the regulatory limits established by BAPETEN.

Abstract

18F-fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography (PET) using ¹⁸F-fluorodeoxyglucose (¹⁸F-FDG) is widely used in nuclear medicine. Accurate estimation of organ absorbed dose is important for patient safety and protocol optimization. However, standard dosimetry methods based on reference computational phantoms may not fully represent individual anatomical variability, particularly organ mass differences that influence absorbed dose estimation. This study aimed to analyze the sensitivity of absorbed dose to abdominal organ mass variations for ¹⁸F-FDG. A computational dosimetry simulation study was performed using MIRDcalc and the ICRP 133 adult male reference phantom to evaluate simultaneous mass variations of six abdominal organs within a ±50% range. A quadratic relationship was found between mass change and average absorbed dose (R²=0.9928). Dose decreased by 8.5% at +20% mass and increased by 9.2% at −20% mass. The small intestine showed the highest sensitivity (S=−0.45). Organ mass variation substantially influences absorbed dose estimates in simulation-based ^18F-FDG dosimetry. Further studies incorporating patient imaging data are required for clinical validation.
