Abstract

The research deals with the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of EFL learners in learning English. This research used the qualitative design to find out the EFL learners’ motivation in learning English, specifically to their intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The participants consist of 40 senior high school students in Langsa. The questionnaire was the instrument used in collecting data. The questionnaire consists of 35 items, in which they are divided into two parts. The first part, numbers 1 until 20, is to collect the information about intrinsic motivation and inquires about interest, need, hobby and goal. Meanwhile, the second part, numbers 21 until 35, is to collect information about extrinsic motivation and inquires about teachers, parents, and the environment. The results showed that the component in the extrinsic motivation that gave the biggest impact to the students are the teachers; who are the student’s biggest influence in learning English. Meanwhile, the biggest component of intrinsic motivation is the students’ own learning goals. The paper further describes each of these factors in relation to their motivation. The implication of this study related to the teachers’ efforts and capability in motivating their students to learn English is also discussed.

Abstract

Ikatan Alumni FKIP  adalah mitra masa depan bangsa dengan membawa marwah fakultas keguruan dan ilmu pendidikan dimana almamater mereka berasal karena di era digital dan sulitnya menempuh dunia kerja maka sangat diperlukan skill berbahasa inggris agar dapat berkomunikasi secara international di era globalisasi. Permasalahan mitra yang sangat komplek adalah keterampilan bahasa inggris dalam hal skor TOEFL yang memadai untuk menempuh pekerjaan hanya aktif selama dua tahun. Metode pendekatan guna menyelesaikan permasalahan terdiri dari persiapan, penjelasan, pelatihan dan evaluasi. Justifikasi masalah yang telah diterima bersama antara tim dosen dan mitra adalah tim pengabdian akan memberikan pelatihan dan pengajaran dalam memanfaatkan bahasa inggris berbasis poster stiker pada alumni FKIP yang berkaitan dengan TOEFL TPT sebagai cara untuk membentuk skill berkomunikasi berbahasa internasional. Hasil yang diperoleh adalah setiap tahapan yang dilakukan dalam pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini terlaksana dengan aman, baik, dan harmonis. Abstract

Kegiatan untuk melanjutkan studi ke luar negeri sangat didambakan dan menjadi primadona bagi kalangan masyarakat di Kota Langsa. Permasalahan yang dihadapi mitra yaitu alumni lulusan Universitas Samudra serta masyarakat kota langsa secara umum adalah kurangnya pengetahuan ataupun sosialisasi yang diadakan berkaitan dengan informasi baik dalam hal persiapan untuk pendaftaran, beasiswa yang tersedia beserta persyaratan dokumen untuk berangkat ke negara tujuan. Metode penyelesaian masalah  dalam menangani permasalahan mitra berkaitan dengan motivasi untuk dapat melanjutkan studi ke luar negeri adalah dengan melakukan pelatihan persiapan melanjutkan studi ke luar negeri secara formal dengan mengundang peserta mitra yang berasal dari alumni dan masyarakat di Fakultas Ekonomi Universitas Samudra. Metode yang digunakan berupa tiga tahapan yaitu tahapan persiapan, tahapan pelaksanaan dan tahapan evaluasi. Hasil dari monitoring ini diperoleh telah ada mitra yang menembus beasiswa dan mayoritas masih berusaha untuk memilki persyaratan wajib berupa pemenuhan skors ambang batas persyaratan beasiswa dari tes TOEFL ITP.

Abstract

Permasalahan untuk dapat memperoleh pendidikan lanjutan yang terbaik sudah menjadi lumrah merupakan impian yang dimiliki oleh mitra yang berasal dari Sekolah unggul di Kabupaten Aceh Timur yakni SMA Unggul Aceh Timur dimana hasil observasi diperoleh bahwa lulusan dan wali murid berkeinginan agar anak didik di SMA Unggul Aceh Timur setelah menjadi alumni dapat mencicipi pendidikan di luar negeri dengan masuk ke universitas skala internasional. kurangnya sosialisasi terhadap siswa sekolah menengah atas tahun akhir berkaitan dengan informasi yag dibutuhkan untuk mempersiapkan diri agar dapat memperoleh beasiswa ke luar negeri baik dalam hal persyaratan administrasi maupun trik belajar bahasa inggris yang merupakan persyaratan dalam hal bahasa dimana bahasa inggris adalah bahasa internasional. Sehingga tim pengabdian perlu memberikan solusi dari permasalahan mitra dengan melaksanakan pelatihan persiapan kuliah ke luar negeri. Para siswa pada akhirnya memperoleh informasi beasiswa ke luar negeri dan trik-trik untuk memenuhi administrasi persyaratan kuliah ke luar negeri.

Abstract

A translation process of considerable quality should possess the ability to effectively communicate a clear and definite meaning from the source language to the target language. While Google Translate serves as a useful tool for comprehending translated textual content in a general sense, it is important to note that automated machines still possess inherent weaknesses and limitations. The translation of jokes within comedic texts, particularly in relation to language and cultural differences, proves to be a challenging task. This research was undertaken utilizing a qualitative-descriptive approach, with the bilingual comedy book titled "Jokes in English-Book 1" serving as the subject of study. The primary objective of this research is to assess the level of translation quality achieved by machine translation in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability, and to compare these results with the translations provided in the bilingual book. The findings of this research indicate that 62.5% of the translations exhibit a high level of accuracy, while 37.5% are somewhat less accurate. Furthermore, 37.5% of the translations are deemed acceptable, while 62.5% are regarded as less acceptable. Finally, 37.5% of the translations demonstrate a high degree of readability, whereas 62.5% exhibit a moderate level of readability. Upon comparing the translation results obtained from Google Translate with the original translations presented in the bilingual book, it was determined that 100% of the translations in the book were found to be satisfactory in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. Although the translations from English to Indonesian of comedy texts via Google Translate are deemed satisfactory, there is still room for improvement and ongoing development in order to enhance the quality of these translations.

Abstract

The terms that arise regarding the Sharia economy are common in the community, especially in Aceh Province where this area is known as the Veranda of Mecca city. With the rapid development of Sharia understanding, a qualified understanding is needed by the community regarding terms related to the Islamic economy. The solution that can be offered is strengthening community understanding regarding the intralingual translation of Sharia terms. This research was  a descriptive-qualitative research. The data was compiled from test results in the form of intralingual translation regarding 10 sharia terms to 91 purposive selected early semester students of the economics faculty from May 15 to June 12 in 2023 at Samudra University which was carried out online with the help of Google forms and distributed via the WhatsApp application. The research data that had been analyzed will be translated which could be classified as a good translation or not. The results of the research that obtained the majority of correct answer ranges regarding the understanding of Sharia terms. This underlies that the term sharia for students in Aceh is well understood so that the development of the sharia system can be in harmony with the insights of the people

Abstract

The implementation of Islamic economics in Aceh has a positive impact on society. Aceh Province is a region in Indonesia that has an influence on poverty issues because it has been hit by social conflict that has been going on for a very long time so that access to work is not conducive for the people of Aceh. ). Aceh Province with the implementation of Islamic law has a role to play in resolving and minimizing poverty problems. The method used by Aceh Province is to foster the management of zakat, infaq and alms because they are sources of eternal funds. Supporting the importance of previous research on zakat, infaq and alms, this study wants to determine the ability to understand interlingual terminology about zakat, alms and infaq plus one other terminology, namely gifts. This research was a descriptive-qualitative research. The data used are 4 terminologies in Islamic economics, namely alms, zakat, infaq and gifts to be translated interlingually. The four terms to be translated were analyzed using the intralingual equivalence method. The sample is 50 students from the Faculty of Economics who have studied science related to Islamic economics courses. The findings obtained that related to the terminology of zakat, all participants as many as 50 students or 100% of participants managed to answer intralingually. Then, there were the same results between the terminology of infak, sedekah, and hadiah, namely 47 students managed to answer correctly but insignificantly there were only 3 students who answered incorrectly.

Abstract

Community service is carried out for boarding school students at SMA Unggul Aceh Timur to have independence as the key to success in economic independence. The purpose of community service that will be carried out the form of several things given to partners such as the target of community service to be able to be independent in conducting micro-businesses related to telang drinks; partners will be introduced to insights related to procedures and information regarding processing and marketing telang drinks both offline and digital; telang drink products will be used by partners to be used for entrepreneurship as an additional little economy utilizing telang which is easy to cultivate in the partner's environment into ready-to-sell products and promising economy; the products produced are products that can be used for partners to be able to compete competitively regarding micro-scale packaged telang drinks. The uses a participatory action research approach. The stages begin with preparation, then continue with the implementation of community service, and continue with evaluation and material is presented in the form of lectures, demonstrations/practices and questions and answers/discussions. The results of the training evaluation were successful in encouraging telang drink entrepreneurship for boarding school students.

Abstract

The TOEFL test to measure English language skills is an important determinant of educational success and admission to the university. The aim of study is to measure Toefl ability by lecturers and students at University of Samudra. This study used a test method with a quantitative-descriptive approach. With regard to the analysis of data from lecturers' TOEFL test results in various study programs, this study compared the scores for listening comprehension, reading comprehension and finally structure and written expression as well as showed the highest score, lowest scores and average scores obtained by the lecturers and students across disciplines. Meanwhile, analyzing data from the TOEFL test for students, this study demonstrated the highest, lowest and average scores of each study program in 5 faculties such as faculty of teacher training and education, faculty of engineering, faculty of law, faculty of agriculture, and faculty of economics. There were 16 lecturers who participated and 1.792 students. Finding found that the highest score of the lecturer's TPT test was 497 by P-15 from Accountancy. However, this highest score is not enough to pass doctoral studies with a minimum score of 500. So all lecturers must repeat the TPT test. Meanwhile, only Chemical and Technical Information managed to get an average score above 450 in order to meet the requirements of the thesis trial. Therefore, many lecturers and students did not pass the TPT test, so they repeated the TPT test.
