Abstract

Pasar Cibinong in Bogor Regency plays a crucial role in the local economy. However, traditional market traders, particularly clothing retailers, face significant challenges in the post-COVID-19 era, including reduced consumer purchasing power and increasing competition from e-commerce platforms. This study aims to (1) identify the condition of clothing retailers during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, (2) analyze internal and external factors influencing business development, (3) formulate strategies to enhance competitiveness, and (4) determine strategic priorities. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with five respondents (three clothing retailers and two market managers) and direct observation. Quantitative data were collected via questionnaires distributed to 30 consumers. SWOT analysis was used to examine internal and external factors, while the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) determined strategy priorities. Findings show that COVID-19 significantly reduced retailers' incomes. Although the number of traders increased post-pandemic, consumer purchasing power remains low. Retailers benefit from strengths such as strong social interaction and flexible pricing, but struggle with limited technological adoption. SWOT analysis revealed opportunities like Pasar Cibinong’s strategic location and consumer trust, and threats from online competition. Four main strategies were formulated: Horizontal Integration of Traders, Cibinong Go Digital, Cibinong Easy Pay, and Cibinong Comfortable Shopping. AHP results ranked Cibinong Go Digital as the top priority (weight: 0.49), emphasizing digital integration and training. The implementation of Cibinong Go Digital is expected to improve competitiveness, requiring comprehensive support from market authorities and local government, alongside community participation.

Abstract

This study investigates the drivers and barriers to the adoption of rubber compounding technology among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia's finished rubber product sector. As the world's second-largest natural rubber producer, Indonesia has significant potential for growth in this sector. However, technology adoption in SMEs faces several challenges, primarily due to resource constraints and perceptions of technology, organizational, and environmental conditions. A qualitative multiple case study method was employed, with data collected through semi-structured interviews with business owners or top management. Analysis, conducted through within-case and cross-case comparisons, revealed that while technological complexity acts as a significant barrier, human expertise is a key driver of successful adoption. The findings highlight the importance of strategic investment in human capital and phased implementation strategies to reduce complexity. These insights contribute to discussions on technology adoption success factors in SMEs. Managerially, they provide policymakers and industry leaders with practical guidance on supporting SMEs to enhance competitiveness and drive sector growth. Abstract

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are central role in economic resilience by contributing to regional development, and national output. Innovation is crucial for SME competitiveness rendering SME can survive in dynamic and digitally competitive markets. This study explores how digital technology enhances innovation performance through open innovation (OI) among agro-SMEs in Depok, Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, field observations, and documentation from an AI-focused digital training program. Thematic analysis using NVivo revealed five main themes: digital collaboration, peer learning, knowledge sharing, innovation drivers, and competitiveness. Findings indicate that digital tools, such as social media, e-commerce platforms, and simple AI applications, facilitate knowledge exchange and co-creation with customers, suppliers, and peer SMEs. Peer-based learning and informal collaboration during community events and training significantly enhanced product improvements and branding innovations. However, barriers are still existing, such as limited digital skills, low confidence, and a lack of structured support, hinder the full adoption of digital OI practices. This study underscores the importance of localized innovation ecosystems and practical support mechanisms in enabling SMEs to engage in open innovation. A strategic framework linking digital knowledge flows and collaborative capabilities to innovation performance is proposed. The results offer practical guidance for institutions and policymakers seeking to strengthen SME competitiveness in the agricultural sector. Abstract

Rural youth increasingly distance themselves from local resource-based enterprises, even where valuable food commodities and development programs exist. Local food resources offer entrepreneurial potential that does not automatically translate into youth participation. This study examines how local food resources are configured into youth-centered entrepreneurship through business model configurations rather than treated as commodities for direct commercialization. Using a qualitative comparative case study of hanjeli-based initiatives in Waluran, Sukajadi, and Bedono, the study analyzes interviews, Business Model Canvas documentation, and field materials through BMC-based coding, within-case analysis, cross-case comparison, and abductive synthesis. Three configurations emerge. Waluran develops an experience-based pathway through educational tourism, ecological learning, and market-facing products. Sukajadi forms a community food pathway through collective processing, farmer linkage, and consumer education. Bedono advances a norm-based pathway through seed recovery, food heritage, and consumption routines. The findings show that rural markets are socially formed through experience, education, trust, and norms, while youth-regeneration value appears uneven across configurations. Sustainability depends on vulnerability management, organizational capacity, and community legitimacy. The study contributes to the rural entrepreneurship literature by reframing local food resources as business model configurations that create economic, social, ecological, and regenerative value for rural youth.

Abstract

Indonesia has the most sago plantations in the world, which means that sago can be used for a wide range of things, including food, animal feed, fuel, fiber, and fertilizer. However, Indonesian sago starch can’t be used more widely in either domestic or international markets because there isn’t enough information about its chemical composition and contaminant levels. This study examines the chemical composition and heavy metal levels of sago starch from various regions of Indonesia. The results show that the chemical properties of sago starch vary from province to province. For example, the carbohydrate content ranges from 84.26% to 94.93%, while the fat and protein content are relatively low. There are also reports of differences in the amounts of amylose and amylopectin. The levels of heavy metals are very low and meet international safety standards, which means that Indonesian sago starch is safe to eat. Sago starch from Indragiri Hilir, Banjarmasin, and Lingga exhibits chemical properties similar to those from Meranti, Indonesia’s primary sago-producing region, suggesting their potential as alternative sources. The appropriate amounts of amylose and amylopectin in these areas make it suitable for food products that require very high flexibility. These results support improving the use of sago starch and help raise the quality and safety standards for Indonesian sago products.

Abstract

Fluctuations in cayenne pepper prices in local markets are difficult to predict and often create uncertainty in farmers' decision-making. This study analyzes cayenne pepper price dynamics and develops a Random Forest-based prediction model using weekly price data (2021–2024) from four markets in East Lombok Regency: Pancor, Aikmel, Paok Motong, and Sakra. Predictor features included lagged prices (24 weeks), rolling mean and standard deviation (4-, 8-, and 12-week windows), and seasonal sine–cosine transformations. The dataset was split chronologically into training (80%) and testing (20%) sets to preserve temporal dependencies. The model achieved R² values of 0.86–0.93, with MAE of IDR 2,657–4,206 per kg and RMSE of IDR 3,519–4,946 per kg. It captured general price trends and seasonal patterns well but showed limited accuracy in predicting extreme price spikes, likely due to the inherent limitation of tree-based algorithms in extrapolating beyond historical training ranges and the absence of external variables such as supply volume. These findings indicate that cayenne pepper price dynamics follow learnable historical patterns, and the model has potential as a data-driven decision-support tool to help reduce, though not eliminate, market uncertainty and support local food security

Abstract

Watersheds must be managed as a unified area from upstream to downstream, by considering various geophysical and socio-economic aspects. Changes in watershed morphology are one of the important factors that can affect the hydrological system and affect the water availability of a region. The study aimed to analyse the dependable discharge of the Bengkulu River and develop policies for  sustainable management of the Bengkulu Watershed. The methods used to analyze the reliable discharge are the Weibull distribution flow duration curve (with 90% probability) and Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM). Results showed that, from 1990 to 2020, land use in the Bengkulu Watershed changed in the form of a 34,58 km2 (7,30%) decrease in Secondary Dryland Forest area, and a 10,54 km2 (2,22%) increase in mining area. The dependable discharge of Bengkulu River (with 90% probability) is 10.93 m3/s or approximately 344.69 million m3. Furthermore, the Bengkulu River’s flow regime coefficient fluctuates considerably and has shows an increasing trend in recent years. This indicates that the watershed is experiencing degradation due to changes in land cover and global climate changes. Some policy recommendations that need to be implemented include integrating spatial planning and watershed management plans across local governments and to guide natural resource management, reforestating or planting trees to maintain vegetated areas, and planting forests and crops through agroforestry.

Abstract

This study examines QRIS Tap adoption in Jakarta's public transportation system by extending the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) with perceived transaction speed, perceived risk, and trust as additional constructs. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted, and 202 valid responses, retained from an initial pool of 230, were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, habit, and trust positively and significantly predicted behavioral intention, while perceived risk had a significant negative effect. Facilitating conditions, habit, and behavioral intention also significantly predicted use behavior. Perceived transaction speed did not directly predict behavioral intention but significantly shaped both performance expectancy and effort expectancy. Performance expectancy, social influence, hedonic motivation, and price value did not significantly predict behavioral intention. QRIS Tap adoption is shaped mainly by ease of use, reliable infrastructure, habit, reduced perceived risk, and trust. Although transaction speed does not directly drive adoption intention, it remains important because it shapes users’ perceptions of usefulness and ease of use.
