Abstract

Background: Anemia in pregnancy can be caused by exposure to cigarette. A large number of free radicals can cause the number of erythrocytes to decrease. It takes a component to neutralize free radicals, namely antioxidants obtained from various fruits. Soursop contains sources of antioxidants such as flavonoid compounds, polyphenols, and vitamin C. Researchers want to know whether soursop juice can be used as an alternative antioxidant to prevent the decrease in hemoglobin levels of pregnant women. Objective: To determine the effect of giving soursop juice on hemoglobin levels of pregnant white rats with exposure to cigarette smoke. Methods: The experimental laboratory research was designed using the Randomized Post Test Only Control Group Design method. The experimental animal samples were 20 pregnant female Wistar (Rattus norvegicus) rats composed of two control and three treatment groups. Rats were given soursop fruit juice from the first day of rearing until the 18th day of gestation and exposed to cigarette smoke from the 6th day until the 18th. Then blood samples were taken from the mother's heart to measure the hemoglobin level. Results: The results of the hemoglobin level test showed that there was difference between the treatment group and control group. There is an increasing trend from the postitive control group to treatment group. Conclusion: Giving soursop fruit juice can prevent the decrease in hemoglobin levels of pregnant rats exposed to cigarette smoke. Keywords: anemia, free radicals, antioxidants, vitamin C.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of Continuity of Care (CoC) within the Midwifery Led Care (MLC) model in Malang Regency. The maternal and child health indicators remain a concern due to high maternal mortality rates, exacerbated by complications such as preeclampsia and hemorrhage. CoC has been recognized for its ability to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes by providing consistent care through midwives. This qualitative research, using a phenomenological approach, involved in-depth interviews with 20 mothers (10 primipara, 10 multipara) who experienced MLC, supported by observations and secondary data. Results revealed that both primipara and multipara mothers valued continuous midwifery care, though their experiences varied based on parity. Primipara mothers generally required more information and support, while multipara mothers exhibited greater confidence in midwife-led care. Barriers such as limited access to health services in remote areas, a lack of trained midwives, and insufficient community education on the benefits of MLC were identified. Recommendations include enhancing midwife training, improving access to healthcare in rural regions, and increasing public awareness of CoC benefits. The findings emphasize the importance of expanding MLC and CoC models to reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality in underserved areas.

Abstract

Speech delay is a condition where a child's speech and language development are significantly below the milestones of other children at the same age. The delay in school aged children will impact the child's enrollment in school. The purpose of this study was to describe stimulation, detection, and intervention in children with speech delay. The research used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research population consisted of 97 children with speech delay. The inclusion criteria were children aged 2-3 years old, willingness to participate as respondents and presence during the research. The exclusion criteria were children with hearing loss, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and chromosome abnormalities. The sample was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The subject was a child aged 32 months old. The data was collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the child is classified as a functional speech delay caused by lack of stimulation. The child was first identified by parents having speech problems at the age of 18 months. Intervention was done through speech therapy. It is recommended that parents can stimulate and monitor children's development especially at the age of 0-2 years to avoid developmental problems, especially speech delay
