Abstract

There were 19.67 injuries per 200,000 hours worked by mining employees in 2019 in Ghana, the injuries were due to the gap between mining operations and the knowledge and skills of their workers. These gaps can generally lead to work stresss. Various factors can cause work stresss, both caused by individual factors and work-related factors. This study aims to analyze these factors on work stresss in mining operation employees PT-XYZ. The research respondents amounted to 226, divided into 5 departments, namely Construction, Processing, Geotechnical, Underground mining operations (Ops.) and Repair operations (Mtc.). This quantitative research design uses cross-sectional study research methods. The dependent variable in the form of work stress was measured using the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) while the independent variables in the form of age, education, length of work, gender, and worker status were taken using general questionnaire. The data analysis technique in this study used the Chi-square test. There were 46 respondents (20.4%) experiencing work stress. This study showed a significant relationship between the age factor of workers (0.03) and gender (0.05) of workers with work stress in employees of PT-XYZ mining operations. Understanding the age and sex factors of workers that affect work stress can provide an overview for PT-XYZ to formulate policies, appropriate procedures, and interventions in managing mining safety.

Abstract

Work stress is a common response experienced by workers, including breastfeeding working women, due to stressors arising in the workplace. In the short term, work stress has a negative impact on the productivity and lactation activity of working women. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the factors associated with work stress among breastfeeding working women. A cross-sectional design was used by distributing the workplace stress scale questionnaire and additional questions to breastfeeding working women. The data used were obtained from 162 respondents spread across Indonesia who were willing to fill out online questionnaires. Subsequently, the collected data were analyzed using the Logistic Regression test. The results indicated that 85 people (52.47%) felt high stress, particularly regarding the lack of opportunity to show ability and talent during work. A statistically significant relationship (p=0.034, aOR= 2.139) was also discovered between the type of family and work-related stress in breastfeeding working women. Although this problem was directly sourced from stressors at work, demographic factors such as the type of family contributed to the stress experienced by breastfeeding working women.

Abstract

The construction of offshore platforms that aims to support the process of exploration or exploitation of oil and gas has a high risk because workers carry out activities on board for a certain period. Fatigue is a condition where there is a decrease in efficiency and endurance at work. Workload and individual characteristics are one of the factors supporting the occurrence of fatigue so that the workload received must be following the physical and mental abilities of workers which are analyzed based on the individual characteristics of workers. Work-related fatigue significantly affects worker capacity and can impact worker performance. This research method is a literature study based on previous studies by adjusting the criteria to the variables studied. In this study, it was found that workload risk factors and individual characteristics can increase worker fatigue which results in several physical diseases such as asthma, high blood pressure, heart, kidney, and mental disorders such as stress, depression, and anxiety disorders.

Abstract

Introduction: Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDS) is a condition involving degenerative health problems or inflammation that occurs in workers, affecting joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons and blood vessels. Sufferers of muscle and skeletal disorders as an occupational disease are the largest number of cases of occupational disease in Europe compared to other diseases in 2017. Objective: This research aims to identify factors Risk factors for muscle and skeletal disorders in construction workers. Method: This research uses the method literature study using the PRISMA approach (preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses). When searching for journals that are relevant to the research topic, use a search engine Science Direct and ResearchGate using the keyword "Musculoskeletal Disorder” and” Construction Worker”. A total of 868 journals were identified, but 8 journals met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result: Research instruments used Standard Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. It was found that construction workers generally experience pain in the legs, followed by pain in the back, head, hips, shoulders and other areas. The pain felt by workers is caused by behavioral factors (lifestyle, smoking behavior), place and work environment factors (work position, vibration and temperature, work experience, workload, wage system), worker psychological factors (level of fatigue after work, Job stress), Individual Factors (BMI, Exercise, Work experience, Age). Conclusion: Risk factors for muscle and skeletal disorders in construction workers consist of behavioral factors, place and work environment factors, worker psychological factors, and individual factors.

Abstract

Introduction: The manufacturing industry transforms various materials, substances, or components into new products using mechanical, physical, or chemical forces. Safety climate refers to the perception of workers of prioritizing safety over organizational goals in the workplace. PT A, B, and C are manufacturing companies located in the Jababeka area. This study aims to identify the main factors that influence the perception of workers of safety climate in PT A, B, and C. Methods: A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted in August 2021 to analyze the safety climate of three companies. This study focused on various factors, such as leadership, risk management, implementation of occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS), regulation, management commitment, worker engagement, and worker competence. The sample size consisted of 330 workers selected from the three companies using the Lemeshow formula from a total of 1500 workers using the cluster sampling technique with the analysis of variance (ANOVA) test. Results: The results showed that risk management had the lowest score among the safety climate sub-variable for the three companies. Conclusion: The ANOVA test revealed a significant relationship among the safety climate variables. Furthermore, it is necessary to prioritize management in terms of policy and administration by involving all departments.

Abstract

Occupational fatigue is a common issue in various industries, particularly in the construction sector, which is characterized by high occupational risks. This study aims to identify the risk factors contributing to occupational fatigue among construction workers and propose strategies to mitigate these risks. The research employs a systematic literature review method following PRISMA guidelines. The literature search was conducted using Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect with keywords such as “Occupational Fatigue,” “Work Fatigue,” “Construction Worker,” “Risk Factor,” and “Construction,” covering publications from 2014 to 2024. Articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria to ensure relevance. The review of 12 selected articles identified several key risk factors associated with occupational fatigue, including job complexity, work stress, psychological health conditions, age, tenure, work climate, workload, and unsafe working conditions. Additionally, a negative work climate, excessive workload, and hazardous work environments were found to be major contributors to workplace fatigue. The findings indicate that addressing these risk factors is essential for improving worker safety and well-being. Implementing targeted interventions, such as workload management, stress reduction programs, and improvements in occupational health and safety standards, can significantly reduce fatigue levels among construction workers. These measures can also enhance productivity and overall job satisfaction in the construction industry.
