Abstract

This study examined the mass media condition, especially radio in Surakarta or Solo City, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research used qualitative methods, technically by interviews, observations, and documents studied on public, private, and community radio. The results show that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the media industry, including radio. We could see from the changes in broadcast aspects, advertising orders or financial conditions, and human resource aspects. The pandemic required broadcasters to make changes to broadcasts, both changes in broadcast duration and changing agendas and changes in broadcasters' work schedules. In the financial aspect, broadcasting institutions with government financial sources did not get significant shocks. Still, private broadcasters suffered heavy losses due to loss of sponsorship and off-air activities. Media workers also got impacts ranging from exposure to death. Non-public media workers also affect late payments to salary reductions due to the pandemic

Abstract

Desa Kismoyoso merupakan sentra jamu tradisional di Boyolali Jawa Tengah. Dalam pemasaran, perajin masih menggunakan cara konvensional dan belum menggunakan model penjualan online. Para perajin juga belum melakukan upaya promosi agar penjualan bertambah. Untuk meningkatkan pendapatan, hal yang sudah dilakukan adalah menambah varian produk berupa makanan kecil atau snack. Di satu sisi, penambahan varian produk menjadi daya tarik untuk pembeli, namun di sisi lain metode ini menjadikan perajin tidak fokus pada pengembangan minuman kesehatan sebagai spesialisasi keahlian yang mereka miliki dan para leluhur, serta riskan beralih produk jualan, sesuai yang lebih diminati pasar. Pelatihan tentang komunikasi pemasaran terpadu atau Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) diharapkan dapat membantu perajin dalam meningkatkan pendapatan. Hasilnya, perajin jamu mendapatkan pengetahuan baru mengenai pemanfaatan media sosial sebagai upaya promosi produk dan penggunaan brosur sebagai media promosi pendukung.

Abstract

Transparansi dan akuntabilitas dalam Organisasi Mahasiswa (Ormawa) merupakan aspek krusial dalam pengelolaan keuangan organisasi. Pengelolaan keuangan yang tidak transparan dapat menimbulkan ketidakpercayaan dari mahasiswa serta pihak kampus. Oleh karena itu, program pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan pengurus Ormawa dalam menyusun proposal dan laporan keuangan yang transparan serta akuntabel. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pelatihan dan pendampingan berbasis praktik, yang meliputi sosialisasi, workshop, dan evaluasi. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Universitas Sahid Surakarta dengan tujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan teknis terkait akuntabilitas dan transparansi dalam pengelolaan keuangan. Hasil dari program ini menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam pemahaman dan keterampilan pengurus Ormawa dan BEM, dengan 83% peserta mampu menyusun proposal sesuai standar administratif dan 90% dapat merancang proposal dengan tujuan dan manfaat yang jelas. Implikasi dari penelitian ini adalah peningkatan budaya transparansi dan akuntabilitas di dalam organisasi mahasiswa, yang diharapkan dapat mendorong profesionalisme dan efisiensi dalam pengelolaan keuangan, serta meningkatkan kepercayaan mahasiswa dan pihak kampus terhadap Ormawa. Program ini diharapkan dapat menjadi contoh bagi universitas lain dalam meningkatkan tata kelola organisasi mahasiswa yang lebih baik.

Abstract

Iklan dipilih sebagai salah satu cara produsen untuk mengenalkan produk baru ataupun mendongkrak penjualan. Hedonisme adalah satu bentuk gaya hidup yang digunakan dalam iklan guna menggambarkan kelebihan produk serta alasan mengapa harus memilikinya. Tulisan ini memuat bagaimana gaya hidup hedonis diajarkan melalui iklan kepada para remaja dan mengapa hal ini layak dikritisi. Iklan yang menjadi obyek kajian yaitu Yamaha New Mio Blue Core 125. Analisis menunjukkan gaya hidup yang mengedepankan kesenangan dan mengutamakan materi ini direpresentasikan secara vulgar atau terang-terangan melalui gambar dan tulisan. Semua versi menonjolkan kepemilikan materi sebagai satu-satunya hal utama dalam hidup. Materi atau kekayaan ditampilkan sebagai kunci mengatasi semua masalah. Kepemilikan harta benda bahkan dapat mengalahkan kekayaan hati maupun intelektual. Pandangan tentang gaya hidup hedonis perlu dikritisi karena dapat membawa pengaruh terutama bagi perkembangan psikologis para remaja.

Abstract

This paper is to highlight the reformation of press freedom in terms of the principle of media neutrality. Neutral, impartial or affiliated with stakeholders, and political power is one thing that is a principle in the mass media because the media must maintain its neutrality as a function of social control and educator. If the period before the reform, freedom of the press overshadowed by “bredel” or censorship, freedom apparently it is still not fully considered in the present era. Freedom of the press is now just snatched away by its own internal media. If the first media workers have to struggle to escape from the political repression of the ruler, now media workers should strive to avoid repression owners of capital with all the interest surrounding it, in order to realize the press that truly fair and responsible. Understanding and awareness of the owners of capital or management, at least for one word and one bow to actually enforce the primary purpose of journalism, not only for profit but noble responsibility to the community that is a dream to realize a good Indonesian press.

Abstract

Korean wave hits many parts in the world. This country is no exception. Not need long time, Indonesian media content also raises many imitation products are said to be mashed with a term inspired show of Korea. Popping electronic sinema with theme, storyline, to property are similar to Korean production. The entertainment industry is also talkative homeland to bring similar icons such as the formation of a boy band or girl band. Korean dramas are able to be one booster television ratings. Loading event with consideration of market appetite has become one of the important things for the continuation of the mass media industry. But the boom shows other domestic product can influence and change behavior of society as well as a shift in values and norms. Incessant media show make people become more permissive to a previously taboo thing. Some of people don’t realize that it can be as a new imperialism, especially in culture.

Abstract

This study explores the dynamics of intercultural communication among Papuan students living within diverse student communities in Yogyakarta. Employing a qualitative approach and case study method, the research aims to understand how Papuan students negotiate their cultural identities in a majority non-Papuan cultural environment. Stella Ting-Toomey’s Identity Negotiation Theory serves as the main analytical framework. The findings reveal that cultural identity is negotiated through symbolism, adaptive communication strategies, and the formation of safe community spaces. This research contributes to the underexplored discourse of intra-national intercultural communication studies in Indonesia.

Abstract

News plays role in society. Not only as a source of information but it also can affect people in the cognitive until affective level. Media is not only being the first to present news but also the only one who can present particular news. Unfortunately, for the purpose of fulfilling the target acquisition news, not all of journalists carrying out their profession honestly, presenting news result of the acquisition of its own. Cloning journalism is one of the practices made by some journalists where they do not plunge directly to the process of information gathering, but still get the story. Cloning journalism not just opposite to code of ethics of journalism but also detrimental to media companies concerned. Patterns of cloning journalism carried out in various forms. Regarding the cause are related to the rules of the media company, symbiotic mutualism, and as well as economic motives.

Abstract

Differences in cultural backgrounds often create obstacles in the process of interaction between individuals. This study discusses the case of interaction between students of ethnic groups from eastern Indonesia and students of Javanese ethnicity in the Surakarta campus environment. The presence of students from eastern Indonesia in the context of higher education in Java creates a complex intercultural meeting space. Differences in values, norms, and communication styles between these two ethnic groups often create barriers to building social relationships. This study aims to identify the forms of communication accommodation strategies employed by both parties in their efforts to build effective communication. The approach used is a phenomenological approach to explore the direct experiences of informants in the process of cross-cultural interaction. The theory used is Communication Accommodation Theory to analyze how individuals adapt their communication styles to achieve mutual understanding. Data collection techniques were conducted through in-depth interviews with three student informants from the eastern region and one Javanese ethnic student informant. The results of the study indicate that the most dominant communication barriers manifested in the form of differences in language style, perceptions of emotional expressions, and cultural stereotypes. The accommodation strategies employed include convergence by Eastern students as a form of adaptation to the majority culture, and divergence in the context of preserving cultural identity.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition in which a child's growth and development are impaired, resulting in a delay in physical and mental growth. We can observe characteristics in its physical condition that differ from those of children in general. The problem of stunting is not only the government's responsibility but also a problem that must be solved together, as it can affect the nation's and state's quality. The efforts we have made to help the government reduce stunting rates include community service programs and the use of YouTube as a Medium for Disseminating Health Information, especially related to stunting. Community service activity was carried out in Kalijirak Village, Tasikmadu District, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, by providing training to 28 Posyandu cadres. Cases of stunting in children under the age of five (Toddlers) in the village were said to be still relatively high but not triggered by malnutrition. The number of mothers who marry early was said to be one of the causes, so it affected the level of health knowledge and parenting patterns for children. Efforts to increase health knowledge, particularly regarding the prevention of stunting, have been undertaken by the government through conventional methods, such as face-to-face communication. The number of health officers was reportedly disproportionate to the wide coverage area. Therefore, YouTube can be utilized as a medium to help disseminate health information, particularly in increasing the local community's Knowledge to reduce stunting cases. The training results indicated that the community had successfully produced and disseminated health information via YouTube as part of an effort to reduce and prevent cases of stunting.
