Abstract

Abstract. Mefenamic Acid is one type of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug that works to relieve pain by blocking an enzyme that produces prostaglandins. The quality requirements that must be met by pharmaceutical preparations are levels contained must meet the level requirement as listed in the Indonesian Pharmacopoeia or other standard books. The purpose of this study was to conduct a validation test of ultraviolet spectrophotometry methods for determination of the Mefenamic Acid level in the suspension preparation. The sample consisted of three suspensions preparation under the trade name obtained from a pharmacy in the Medan city. The solvent used is sodium hydroxide (NaOH) 0,1 N solution and the measurement was done at a wavelength of 286 nm. Validation parameters determined were Accuracy, Precision, Linearity, Range, Limit of Detection and Limit of Quantitation. The results of the determination of the Mefenamic Acid suspension preparation under the trade name Pondex® was 100,39±0,21%, trade name Omestan® was 99,98±0,33% and trade name Novastan® was 103,21±0,83%. All the suspension preparations were determined meet the general level requirement, that contain not less than 90,0% and not more than 110,0% of the amount stated on the label. The results meet the requirements of the validation test of analysis methods with the parameter percent recovery 100,08% for accuracy, relative standard deviation 0,04% for precision, the correlation coefficient 1,0000 for linearity, range 8 μg/mL to 12 μg/mL, limit of detection limit 0,0118 μg/mL, limit of quantitation 0,0356 μg/mL. Keywords: Validation, Spectrophotometry, Determination, Suspension, Mefenamic Acid

Abstract

Vitamin C, as a crucial nutrient, plays a vital role in human health and is known to be sensitive to various factors such as ripeness level, storage and heating conditions. This study aimed to determine the effect of ripeness level, storage and heating conditions on vitamin C in fig (Ficus carica L.) fruit juice using bivolmetric sensor. Fig (Ficus carica L.) fruit juice samples with different ripeness level were collected and analyzed the vitamin C. Full-ripe fig (Ficus carica L.) fruit juice samples subjected at different storage (cold, cool, and room temperature) and heating (30 °C, 60 °C, and 90 °C) conditions. The vitamin C level was monitored using a bivoltammetry sensor. The results showed that the higher ripeness level of fig (Ficus carica L.) fruit the lower level of the vitamin C. The results also showed that the higher storage and heating conditions generally accelerate with degradation of vitamin C. Degradation of vitamin C content in fig (Ficus carica L.) fruit juice with all different storage temperature had the best kinetic model fit zero order. Meanwhile, heating temperature at 30 °C and 60 °C showed that the best kinetic model fit first order. But, heating temperature at 90 °C showed that the best kinetic model fit second order. The kinetic modeling analysis showed that storage and heating conditions significantly influenced the degradation kinetics of vitamin C in the fig (Ficus carica L.) fruit juice.

Abstract

Metamizole is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID) that functions as an analgesic, antipyretic, and antiinflammatory. Examination of active substance contents is a requirement that must be met to ensure the quality of drug preparations. The aims of this study were to develop and validate the Fourier Transform Infrared spectrophotometric method for the quantitation of metamizole content in marketed tablet preparation. Identification and determination of metamizole contents by Fourier Transform Infrared spectrophotometric method used methanol solvent in the wavenumber range 4000 cm–1 to 650 cm–1. The results showed that the specific wavenumbers of metamizole were 1649.3 cm–1; 1623.3 cm–1; and 1589.7 cm–1; and the contents metamizole in marketed tablet preparation ranged from (97.954 ± 0.121)% to (104.541 ± 0.257)%. From the validation method, the recovery result is 100.129%; the relative standard deviation is 0.057%; the limit of detection is 2.09526 mg/mL; the limit of quantitation is 6.34928 mg/mL; and the range 40 mg/mL to 60 mg/mL. The quantitation of metamizole contents can be carried out by Fourier Transform Infrared spectrophotometric method with accurate and precise quantitation results.

Abstract

Palm olein is processed from the fruit of the oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) and used as cooking oil. Olein is widely used for frying in many countries. Therefore, the objective of this study was to research the physicochemical properties of palm olein based on cloud point value and compare the result with PORAM (The Palm Oil Refiners Association of Malaysia) standard and SNI 7709:2019 . The iodine values (IV), peroxide values (PV), free fatty acid (FFA) are often considered to be major significance indexes for the assessment of quality and stability of oils. There were seven samples in total, based on CP value (CP 7.2, CP 7.6, CP 8.0, CP 8.4, CP 8.8, CP 9.2, and CP 9.6).  Quality characteristics iodine values (IV), peroxide values (PV), free fatty acid (FFA) of RBD palm olein were measured. Cloud point is related to iodine value. The higher IV, the lower will be the CP. CP is related to the unsaturation level of olein, the more unsaturated the olein, CP will be lower. CP is unrelated with PV and FFA value which the increase CP value has no effect on the PV and FFA value. The physicochemical properties (IV, PV, FFA) of olein CP 7.2, CP 7.6, CP 8.0, CP 8.4, CP 8.8, CP 9.2, and CP 9.6  is fulfil PORAM standard and SNI 7709:2019.

Abstract

Adenostemma lavenia (L.) is one of the medicinal plants on Nias Island that is used to treat many symptoms including cough, fever and diarrhea. Empirical data of this plant suggests that these medicinal benefits can be attributed to its antibacterial and antioxidant properties, as well as the total flavonoids contained within it, but research on this is still limited. Adenostemma lavenia (L.) was extracted with ethanol, while the antibacterial properties were measured using the disc method. Antioxidant testing was conducted with the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-2picrihydrazyl) inhibition method. Total flavonoids were assessed using a modified AlCl3 method with a quercetin standard. Antibacterial test results of Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiela pneumoniae, Propionibacterium acnes, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Bacillus cereus and Shigella sonnei with mean inhibition were 8.76 0.44, 8.13 0.72, 8.77 0.45, 6.47 0.54, 7.77 0.60, 7.33 0.44, 12.06 0.60 respectively. IC50 was 59.844 3.36 ppm. Total flavonoids were 13.566 0.021 mcg/g. The results of the antibacterial test of the ethanolic extract of Adenostemma lavenia (L.) were classified as moderate. The antioxidant activity and total flavonoids were in the high category, which can be attributed to the capture of free radicals to overcome disease.

Abstract

Peradangan adalah respons biologis yang dapat menyebabkan berbagai penyakit kronis jika tidak ditangani dengan baik. Obat anti-inflamasi konvensional sering kali memiliki efek samping, sehingga diperlukan alternatif yang lebih aman, seperti obat berbasis ekstrak herbal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis formulasi dan evaluasi tablet berbahan dasar ekstrak herbal sebagai obat anti-inflamasi. Beberapa ekstrak herbal yang digunakan dalam studi ini meliputi daun arbenan (Duchesnea indica) dan batang binahong (Andredera cordifolia), yang diketahui memiliki kandungan senyawa bioaktif seperti flavonoid dan tanin dengan aktivitas anti-inflamasi. Metode penelitian ini dilakukan melalui kajian literatur dari berbagai studi yang menguji efektivitas ekstrak herbal terhadap model peradangan, seperti edema tikus yang diinduksi karagenan. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak daun arbenan memiliki daya aktivitas anti-inflamasi sebesar 0,31%, sementara batang binahong mencapai -45,60% pada konsentrasi tertentu. Selain itu, penelitian lain menunjukkan bahwa dosis optimal, seperti 600 mg/KgBB pada ekstrak daun telang, memberikan penghambatan radang terbaik dibandingkan kontrol positif. Penelitian ini menegaskan potensi besar ekstrak herbal sebagai alternatif terapi anti-inflamasi. Namun, tantangan dalam konsistensi hasil dan variabilitas biologis tetap perlu diatasi. Tindak lanjut penelitian diperlukan untuk mengeksplorasi kombinasi ekstrak herbal, menetapkan protokol uji yang lebih ketat, serta memastikan keamanan dan efektivitas jangka panjang guna mendukung pengembangan obat berbasis herbal yang lebih optimal.

Abstract

Puasa merupakan salah satu ibadah dengan kegiatan menahan diri dari makan dan minum. Saat berpuasa, konsumsi obat secara oral tidak diperbolehkan. Penggunaan obat-obatan dengan waktu pemakaian tiga sampai empat kali dalam sehari saat berpuasa akan mempengaruhi jadwal pemakaian yang dapat menyebabkan efek terapi kurang maksimal. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman kepada masyarakat yang berada di sekitar Lapangan Stadion Teladan Kota Medan terhadap penggunaan obat-obatan ketika sedang berpuasa. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan oleh dosen-dosen dan perwakilan mahasiswa Universitas Tjut Nyak Dhien. Dalam pelaksanaannya, kegiatan ini disambut baik oleh masyarakat yang berada dilokasi tersebut. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan melakukan pendekatan yang baik kepada masyarakat, memberikan beberapa pertanyaan terkait penggunaan obat khususnya saat berpuasa yang diketahui oleh masyarakat, dan selanjutnya penyampaian informasi berupa edukasi terkait dengan penggunaan obat saat puasa. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah memberikan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam terkait cara penggunaaan obat saat puasa yang ditunjukkan berdasarkan kemampuan masyarakat dalam memberikan jawaban dengan benar setelah diberikan beberapa pertanyaan kembali. Dari kegiatan ini diharapkan masyarakat dapat menggunakan obat-obatan yang baik dan benar saat sedang menjalankan ibadah puasa agar diperoleh terapi pengobatan yang maksimal.

Abstract

Abstrak Penggunaan kosmetik perawatan pada remaja menjadi kondisi yang awam pada masa kini. Akan tetapi informasi tentang kadaluarasa atau period after opening (PAO) belum banyak diketahui. Period After Opening (PAO) ialah tenggang durasi pemakaian kosmetik sesudah sampul dibuka. Informasi mengenai PAO berlainan atas tanggal kadaluarsa produk kosmetik. Sosialisasi dilakukan pada anak-anak SMA Dharma Pancasila Medan pada tanggal 16 November 2023. Tujuan aksi ini untuk membagikan wawasan kepada para remaja tentang PAO. Sosialisasi terdiri dari beberapa agenda yaitu dengan melakukan ceramah materi, pembagian brosur dan tanya jawab dilanjutkan dengan berbagi hadiah setelah sosialisasi. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilaksanakan kepada remaja ternyata banyakyang belum memiliki wawasan tentang period after opening (PAO) dan penyimpanan kosmetik yang tepat dan aman.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat yang telah dilakukan bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat khususnya bagi ibu-ibu pengajian masjid jamik terkait dengan perbedaan obat generik dan obat paten. Pengabdian masyarakat dilaksanakan tanggal 10 Juni 2024 di dilakukan dengan cara memberikan edukasi dalam bentuk ceramah terkait perbedaan obat generik dan paten kepada 25 orang ibu pengajian masjid jamik, kecamatan Medan Helvetia, Sumatera Utara. Metode edukasi yang diberikan pemaparan materi dalam bentuk ceramah oleh dosen Universitas Tjut Nyak Dhien dan dilanjutkan dengan sesi tanya jawab. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan bahwa sebagian besar ibu-ibu pengajian masjid jamik masih beranggapan bahwa penggunaan obat generik kurang efektif dibandingkan dari obat paten karena memiliki harga yang lebih mahal. Edukasi yang diberikan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan bagi Ibu-ibu pengajian masjid jamik dan merubah anggapan mereka terhadap penggunaan obat generik dan obat paten.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Marketed pharmaceutical dosage forms must be checked to ensure that the drug in distribution meets the quality requirements. The Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometric method will provide new innovations which are low cost, environmental friendly, simple, and rapid for analysis. The aim of this research was to develop a single analytical method that can be used to determine levels of three different statin derivatives (simvastatin, atorvastatin, and rosuvastatin) in tablet preparations. The method used in this study was Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometric, a very simple sample preparation stage by solvent extraction with minimal solvent extraction without potassium bromide and without pellet press. The specific wave numbers of simvastatin, atorvastatin, and rosuvastatin were determined between 4000 cm–1 to 650 cm–1. The Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometric method had been successfully developed and successfully applied to the determination of levels of simvastatin, atorvastatin, and rosuvastatin in marketed tablet preparations containing single active pharmaceutical ingredient. The specific wave numbers of simvastatin, atorvastatin, and rosuvastatin obtained was 1712.7 cm–1; 1660.5 cm–1; and 965.4 cm–1, respectively. The results obtained in the content determination based on the peak height and peak area fulfill the requirements for active pharmaceutical ingredient assay ranging from 90.00% to 110.00%. The developed method has also been validated for accuracy, precision, specificity, linearity, range, limit of detection, and limit of quantitation. Thus, this method can be a valid alternative method, cheap, green, easy, and fast in determination of the levels of simvastatin, atorvastatin, and rosuvastatin in tablet preparations.
