Abstract

Toothpaste is an essential product for maintaining dental health, where fluoride is one of the key components commonly added. Fluoride plays a crucial role in strengthening enamel and preventing cavities, but the fluoride content in toothpaste must be adjusted according to age groups to avoid the risk of fluorosis, especially in children The literature review aims to evaluate the fluoride content in toothpaste analyzed using potentiometric methods with fluoride ion-selective electrodes (F-ISE). Through a literature review of five research articles published from 2014 to 2024, significant variations in fluoride levels were found. Some products met WHO standards (1000–1500 ppm), while others did not meet criteria, having either too low or too high fluoride content. The potentiometric method proved to be accurate and reliable; however, stricter supervision and regulations are needed to ensure product safety. In conclusion, it is important for consumers to understand the fluoride levels in the toothpaste they use and to ensure the selection of safe and effective products.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe use of kepok banana peel as a traditional medicine can be an alternative for people to further develop the use of traditional medicine, one of which is as a wound healing ingredient. The purpose of this study was to formulate hydrogel preparations from kepok banana peel extract (Musa paradisiaca L) with various concentrations as an effort in developing preparations for healing open wounds. The research method used was experimental, namely evaluation of hydrogel preparations and in vivo wound closure tests on Swiss Webster mice. The results of hydrogel tests with 3 formulas obtained that F1 HG-EKPK 2.5%, F2 HG-EKPK 5% and F3 HG-EKPK 7.5%, resulted in no physical problems in the organoleptic test, although in the evaluation of homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesiveness and viscosity there was instability in concentration. Based on the results of the In Vivo test, it was found that the administration of hydrogel preparations at F1 HG-EKPK 2.5%, F2 HG-EKPK 5%, F3 HG-EKPK 7.5% showed optimal wound closure when compared with the negative control                                                      ABSTRAKPemanfaatan kulit pisang kepok sebagai obat tradisional dapat menjadi alternatif bagi masyarakat untuk lebih mengembangkan penggunaan obat tradisional, salah satunya sebagai bahan penyembuhan luka.

Abstract

Hyperuricemia is a non-communicable disease characterized by high levels of purine in the blood. One of the foods high in purine is melinjo chips. Instant granules from melinjo peel extract with a concentration of 450 mg have been proven to be effective as an anti-hyperuricemia treatment. To ensure the quality of the instant granule preparation, a quality evaluation was conducted to establish it as a new alternative in hyperuricemia therapy. The study aimed to assess the quality of the instant granule preparation of melinjo peel extract, including physical evaluation (particle size, loss on drying, and pH), characterization with Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), and specific microbial tests. The test results revealed that the particle size of the instant granules was classified as coarse particles, the Loss on Drying results showed 1.29% granule loss, and the pH evaluation indicated that the granules had a pH of 7.78. Based on the SEM characterization, the granules exhibited non-clumping and heterogeneous morphology. FTIR analysis showed the presence of quercetin in the instant granules of melinjo peel. Specific microbial testing indicated the absence of E. Coli in the preparation. Therefore, it is concluded that the instant granule preparation of melinjo peel has characteristics that make it suitable for development as an instant nutraceutical granule preparation for anti-hyperuricemia treatment.
