Abstract

Malaria is both an acute and chronic disease caused by protozoa of the genus Plasmodium with the clinical manifestation of fever, anemia and spleen enlarfication. People with malaria, which the plasmodium attacks, are red blood cells. Malaria infections destroy erythrocytes, which results in a change in hemoglobin levels far lower than normal value. This study aims to find out the hemoglobin level in malaria patients, knowing the distribution of the number of malaria patients and the hemoglobin levels based on gender, age, and type of Plasmodium sp. The study employed a secondary descriptive method of data analysis by calculating the distribution of hemoglobin levels presented in the form of tables and narratives, the data used by up to 116 samples of malaria patients. Data retrieval took place at rspad gatot soebroto lab with populations and samples from 2013- 2023. Obtained from a hemoglobin level check in malarial patients shows a value of min 7.0 gr/dl, Max 16.9 gr/dl, mean 12.6 gr/dl, low hemoglobin level 82 patients (70.7%), normal 31 patients (26.7%), 3 (2.6%), the highest distribution of the number of patients in 2022 (15.5 percent). With the largest abnormal measured measured in men by 75 patients (64.2%), the results of a lower level check at 19- 44 (adults), with 64 patients (55.2%), the most malaria patients suffer from plasmodium vivax with a lower percentage of 51 patients (44.0%). In conclusion, that the most malaria affected men, an age susceptible to 19-44 (adult) malaria, and most malaria patients have plasmodium vivax infected.  Keywords : Hemoglobin, gender, malaria, Plasmodium sp, age

Abstract

Abstract

Cholesterol examination is important to monitor the presence or absence of abnormalities in fat metabolism characterized by an increase or decrease in fat, the sample used for cholesterol examination is fresh serum and immediately examined. This study aims to determine the difference in total cholesterol levels CHOD-PAP method in serum samples immediately and delayed for 2, 4, 6 hours at room temperature. This research uses experimental designs with a cross sectional design which is tested on 40 samples of Regular Students of Semester 6 of the DIII Medical Laboratory Technology Study Program at Mohammad Husni Thamrin University. The sample examination method is done by taking venous blood and processed into serum. Research results that have been statistically tested on the Friedman test can be concluded for serum samples immediately and delayed for 2, 4, 6 hours with a significant value of 0.711> α (0.05), there is no difference in the results of the examination of total cholesterol levels with immediate work and a delay of 2, 4, 6 hours. In the percentage test, it was concluded that there was a decrease in the results of checking cholesterol levels in serum samples delayed 2, 4 hours by 2.9% and 5.7% in serum samples delayed 6 hours. Total cholesterol examination should be carried out immediately without delay. If the examination is delayed, the storage temperature and how long the delay should be considered. Abstract

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is a bacterium that causes a respiratory infectious disease known as tuberculosis. Tuberculosis (TB) is a global infectious disease that causes death. The current TB treatment method has a weakness, namely the tendency of patients to disobey the rules in taking drugs because they have to take several tablets of medicine for a long time. As a result, some strains of M.tuberculosis can strengthen themselves and become resistant to antimycobacterial drugs used during therapy. Based on these tuberculosis control problems, the WHO declared a global TB emergency.  The low effectiveness of currently used antitubercular drugs encourages the development of new antimycobacterial drugs with low side effects, fast-acting, broadly targeted, and can damage the virulence properties of M.tuberculosis so that the immune system can phagocytose M.tuberculosis. A recent solution from some researchers is to induce immunomodulatory effects that help during the tuberculosis infection process, including from lactic acid bacteria (LAB). This encourages researchers to reveal the interaction of probiotic L.bulgaricus on reducing the growth of M.tuberculosis by finding the main substance with antitubercular activity to obtain optimal results. This study used sensitive M.tuberculosis strain H37Rv to get complete preliminary data. This study tested lactic acid and bacteriocin of Lactobacillus bulgaricus at concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and 100%. M.tuberculosis bacteria were inoculated on media containing lactic acid and L. bulgaricus ATCC 11842 bacteriocin, then incubated at 37°C and observed every week from the fourth to the eighth week. Of the five concentrations of lactic acid and bacteriocin tested, only the 60-100% concentration could inhibit the growth of M.tuberculosis. In conclusion, lactic acid and bacteriocin of L. bulgaricus can hinder the growth of M.tuberculosis and can be developed into antimycobacterial drug candidates.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global health problem with high morbidity and mortality rates. Infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis triggers immune responses that can alter leukocyte distribution, making differential leukocyte counts valuable in assessing patients’ immune status. This study aimed to describe the leukocyte differential count results in pulmonary TB patients at RSUD Pasar Rebo during 2023–2025, analyzed by gender and age. A quantitative secondary data analysis was conducted by grouping leukocyte parameters based on sex and age, then presented in frequency distribution and percentages. The results showed that most patients TB had normal basophil values (99.6%). Eosinophils were almost equally distributed between normal (44.4%) and elevated (44.4%). Neutrophils were predominantly normal (58.7%), while lymphocytes tended to decrease (52%). Monocytes were mostly within the normal range (56.5%), although elevated levels were also frequent (43.5%). By gender, males more often showed elevated eosinophils, decreased lymphocytes, and high monocytes, whereas females more frequently exhibited elevated neutrophils and normal monocytes. In adolescents, all parameters were normal except for monocytes, which were elevated; in adults, lymphocytes were mostly low; and in the elderly, increased eosinophils and decreased lymphocytes were predominant. In conclusion, pulmonary TB patients demonstrated varied leukocyte patterns, particularly decreased lymphocytes and increased eosinophils and monocytes, reflecting immune responses to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection.
